A tip to newcomers wanting to try this place, please have the stylist repeat what you want. I got a haircut & color from Lorna. She’s a great woman and I absolutely adore her dog, but the color wasn’t quite what I wanted. My roots had grown out and I just wanted some maintenance done, a simple all over color that was a «blend» of my natural hair color, which is dark brown and my current hair color which was a lighter brown, but ended up with jet black hair, which wasn’t what I asked for and is basically irreversible unless I bleach my hair and start over. I realize now that she went to work without showing me a color sample and now $ 150 later I’ve got an ok haircut and an irreversible color that’ll probably take 2 years to grow out. It’s not the end of the world and I’m sure I’ll find a way to rock for the next to 2 years, but I won’t be going back sadly.

OK had some great cuts at local barbershops in the East Bay, but where does the attitude come from?! Your just a barber dude. Cheer up. Then in my Holiday exhaustion would drag my carcass to any available Starbucks… err…I mean Supercuts, and got an «eh» kind of bowl cut. I admit: my hair is tough to work with: coarse, gray in parts, cowlicks reaching out in alien ways… but, then I recalled that once there was a great stylist at ZipZap before I moved from the City, so I gave it a shot, but didn’t see her on the list, so I dove off the deep end and booked a short men’s cut appointment with Justin. Wow! What can I say, he totally got it right but better, and with not a smidge of attitude, just a neat, laid back, guy with a masterful talent and sincere interest in his client. 5 Stars Justin! You are exceptional! See you next time… Ro.

I went to this place to get a botched haircut fixed.
I booked Amy from Zip Zap almost 2 months after my horrible haircut. I waited that long hoping the jacked up haircut would grow out and get better, but it only got worse with time. The horrible stylist left so much volume at the top of my head that it looked like I had a speed racer helmet with tufts of a mullet sticking out.
Fortunately, Amy quickly recognized how to fix the problem. She textured and took out much of the volume so that my layers looked flatter and more even. In 30 minutes, she gave me a haircut that I was supremely happy with.
She did a wonderful job. She had the confidence and bedside manner to make me feel at ease. I wish I could make her my regular stylist, but unfortunately I live in Southern California. If I need a haircut the next time I am in the Bay Area, I will definitely see her again.

Had a great haircut from Amy yesterday — she listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly what I asked for! Got many compliments on my new angled bob, and she said I can drop in for free bang trims while I try to grow my bangs out. Also the whole process was less than an hour, which I appreciate, but it didn’t feel rushed.

My appointment was with Lorna and I am beyond pleased. I went in for a haircut and my hair needed more that just a touch up. She listened to what I said and knew exactly what to do. She gave my hair style and body while keeping the length. She was attentive to all details and my hair is looking better than it has in years. You can tell that she is naturally gifted as well as having quite a bit of experience cutting hair.
Beyond that, my experience was just wonderful. Lorna was friendly and welcoming, salon was lovely, appointments are easy to make, and everyone was nice. I can’t wait to get color here. I have found my new stylist!

I’ve been going to see Mike at Zip Zap Hair for over 10 years now. He’s an awesome guy and can cut any style you ask for. I’ve recommend dozens of friends — male and female — to Mike and whenever someone is visiting and looking for a cut or color, I recommend Zip Zap.
It’s not one of those intimidating salons; everyone is friendly and having fun. You can book online which is really convenient and they also carry great products if you need them.

I’ve had really nice experiences every time I’ve gone to Zip Zap. It’s a pleasant little atmosphere, and they’ll call and let you know if you can come in a bit early which is nice.
I feel a bit loyal to Aimee because she cut my hair twice and smoothed out the color for me so that I stopped getting eye rolls from my coworker when I tried to convince him that growing my roots out kind of counted as ombré. Aimee is super sweet and talented and I’ve had a lovely time every time with her as my stylist. She also thinned my super thick hair for the first time ever, which has been pretty much the best discovery of my life.
Which leads me to a few weeks ago, when I decided I should probably go with a shorter cut. So I booked a short-​notice appointment with Song. And requested that she give me a short cut and, based on previous Aimee visit, thin my hair. I am pretty sure I have never been so happy with a haircut before in my life. My hair looks amazing. And it’s not too thick so I don’t have triangle head like I usually get with short cuts. It’s growing out well and I’m super pleased/​impressed.

Apt scheduling easy, reminders good, very friendly staff, desk, phones, and overall vibe of the salon is nice. Landis!!! She rocked my mess into a pretty girl style! I have a lot of really fine dusty brown hair that tangles really easy and is usually a giant snarl. I hadn’t had a hair cut in quite a while and with all that, I was about to be getting married. SHIT! No worries, Landis to the rescue. She listened to me discuss what little I know about all this, how vague my ideas were as to how or what to do with it. She was friendly and helpful and communicated to me what her plan was, I said ok just do it, then she went to work… She spent a lot of time making my hair look perfect… The color was great, very natural look she lightened me up, brightened me up and shaped me up. I wore my hair down for my wedding, it looked and felt great! I couldn’t be happier… Thanks!

I really liked this salon, but I scheduled an appointment a week in advance and they called me and told me to come in 15 minutes later. That’s fine, I did… but once I got in there, they told me to come back in 45 minutes. I already had plans and that magnitude of delay did not fit within them, so I canceled. Hours later the hair dresser called me with an apology and said she already had my hair color and tried to ask me to reschedule. It wasn’t even the right color. This salon has shown itself to be without a single shred of professionalism.

I went to MONICA for cut and corrective color and oh my lord I am in love! I am a brunette who always dreamed of having cool tone blonde in my hair but whenever I tried before, it went warm and brassy. Monica was determined to give me what I wanted and took her time. She didn’t rush me out the door after 2 hours, but instead did everything she could to make my hair absolutely beautiful! I also loved the cut and the products she suggested to help me maintain the color of my beloved new blonde. Monica was so sweet and easy to chit chat with even if it was our first time meeting; it’s like she’d been doing my hair for years. I would easily recommend her to EVERY ONE! Thank you Monica

This is my first Unilocal review EVER. It had to be done because I love, love, love the haircut that David gave me yesterday.
I went into Zip Zap with long hair and he cut off about 6 inches. It’s totally perfect, and JUST the change I was looking for. David really took his time listening to what I wanted and working to give me some great suggestions. It definitely paid off! I got exactly what I was looking for.

I went and was happy that my hairdresser was nice. I explained to him what I wanted and how I wanted my hair. I even showed a picture of my hair and the style I wanted. When I got there, they had over schedule someone and wouldn’t see them even thou it was their fault.
My haircut sucked!!! I have curly hair so I can’t have the front too short because I wear it curly and straight, he cut the from shorter, cut unevenly the back so now I can’t wear it straight and curly it poofs up. Very dissatisfied!!! He did not listened to anything I said about what I wanted with my hair. Never again will I go there!!!

Justin is a total gem. I’ve been trying to find a stylist who understands my curls for nearly 2 years, and I’ve found him!
My bangs were cut perfectly (a nearly impossible feat for curls), and he gave me a cute cut that is also so easy to style. Justin is great to chat with, and has a sweet and lighthearted approach.

This isn’t about ambience or receptionists or whatever else people review. This is about hair– and James is an undeniable master of his craft. He will know how to cut your hair for your face, for your style, for you. He will do it without hesitation, just go. Make an appointment. Sit in the chair. Walk out feeling better. Hotter. Like you have found the you underneath all that hair.
James saw my mess of a short haircut gone too long, too wrong, too many things. He asked me what I wanted. What I didn’t like about my hair. He told me plainly this haircut wasn’t going to be the final product, that it would be the right transition to get me where I wanted to go.
I have short, asymmetrical, thin, fine, multi-​colored hair. I walked in a shit show and I walked out a bombshell. If this is a ‘transition’ cut then I can’t wait to see the end result.

I just moved to SF and had to sadly leave my stylist in San Jose. I am very picky about who touched my Strawberry Blonde hair and did a bunch of research before deciding to try out a Salon. I ended up booking with Zip Zap and was introduced to Eddy. His consultation put me at ease and explained what he was doing every step of the way to enhance my current style. He kept the conversation flowing and really strove for achieving the perfect look. I was stoked on the outcome. My partner will be making a visit soon!

I walked into The Peoples Barber looking for my favorite barber Susan D’Arcangelo and was sad to see that she had left. There I stood unsure about the future of my perfectly quaffed hair when I was thrown a lifeline, Susan’s last name. I searched online and was excited to see that the master herself had moved to Zip Zap Hair.
Now every time I need a cut I will run to Zip Zap Hair and book an appointment with Susan (formerly of The Peoples Barber)!

I Unilocaled this place for my boyfriend because we had driven past it and I was intrigued by the look and vibe of the place. It had gray reviews and how numbers of reviewers so I called in the morning on a Saturday and was able to get a booking in with Landis for the same afternoon.
We gave her a picture of a hairstyle that we wanted and she delivered right on! The cut and wash was just over an hour, $ 50 and very happy with the result! The place is nicely spread out and 3 other people were getting their hair cut at the same time, 2 males and a female which shows that all the hairstylists are very savvy with both make and female cuts. Definitely coming back to try my hair when the time comes :)
