Yau Kung Moon (YKM) is originally from Hong Kong, but in San Francisco, you can’t NOT notice them when they are performing on the streets in Chinatown or at the Chinese New Year Parade. YKM sports the Yellow shirt, Yellow pants, red sash and traditional striped red and gold leggings.
YKM’s students hail from the various family associations around the San Francisco Bay Area. Students learn the Southern Shaolin style martial arts and practice Nam Si Buk Mo lion dance style.
I have yet to work with them, but have competed against the YKM students at various martial arts tournaments. Their sportsmanship, friendliness and positive attitude is what attracted me to them. Through mingling at various events, I’ve made some great friends.
YKM is like one of the hidden gems in San Francisco Chinatown along with Leung’s White Crane and Hung Sing School.

I’ve been learning from my Sifu Derrick Lok Sang Lee off and on since I was about 8 years old. He has taught me respect, humility, and discipline. He also excels in lion dancing. Aside from teaching the core hand and weapons form, he also teaches different styles that he has learned throughout the years. All of my YKM brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts are extremely supportive in and outside of the school. They are all willing to lend a helping hand in times of need, and just whenever you need someone to talk to. I highly recommend this kung fu school to anyone who is interested in learning martial arts. The Sifu (s) are attentive and if they aren’t available to instruct you, all of the other classmates are always willing to help!
