Description:

Wing Tsun (Wing Chun) kung fu is an efficient concept-based Chinese martial art and form of self-defense utilizing both striking and grappling while specializing in close-range combat. Wing Tsun was developed to allow people to defend themselves even against bigger and stronger opponents and that prides itself in its practical nature, with no references to mythical creatures or animal movements. Its applications are often described as being simple, but not easy. Though seemingly soft, Wing Tsun attitude is aggressive in both defense and offense.

Wing Tsun kung fu is self defense in it’s most uncompromising form. Employing simple and clever self-defense methodology and concepts without complicated techniques, it’s a fast, simple and effective system. Wing Tsun teaches the ability to overcome larger, stronger opposition with the least amount of effort using body integrity, balance and mind-over matter common-sense techniques.

The main objective of Wing Tsun is to be a realistic self-defense system.

History

Established in 2002.

In 1967 Sifu Elmond Leung began his Wing Tsun Kung Fu journey in Hong Kong. At that time, the late Great Grandmaster Yip Man had opened a new program to attract younger students to his school on Nathan Road.

Sifu Elmond studied with Grandmaster Leung Ting until Sifu Elmond’s family immigrated to the United States in 1974. Prior to leaving Hong Kong, Sifu Elmond Leung attained the Third Level Technician ranking.

In 1982 Sifu Leung started teaching privately to a handful of students, establishing later in 2002 the San Francisco Chinatown Wing Tsun School with the help of his senior student Joseph Mah, who obtained the SIFU (Kungfu father) Certificate in 2011. Sifu Joseph Mah is the current Head Instructor of the school.
