The sewing boot camp was super informative and fun — you definitely get your money’s worth. I knew barely anything about sewing with a machine before I got there, and left feeling confident enough to buy a machine and learn more on my own.
I recommend this boot camp to anyone who wants to learn the basics. Nothing beats having an instructor there with you who’s able to help you along when you run into some situation with the machine («I broke it!!» «No, you just forgot to put this thingy down, see?» «Oh yeah! Thanks, teach!»)

Did the sewing bootcamp class here and it was awesome! We learnt how to make a drawstring bag, zipper pouch, beer koozie and a tote. Super useful stuff. I’m definitely way more confident in using the sewing machine now than I was before.
Haley was an excellent instructor. Super funny and very encouraging. She always had positive things to say about everyone’s work. It was a lot of fun taking her class.
Definitely highly recommended!

Wow! Cant tell you how much fun I had last weekend with Ellie Lum in the Sewing Bootcamp and the tote bag class. Ellie has studied how to teach us folks in a productive way. It was rewarding and fun!

Taking the Craft Hacking 101: Agate & Geode Jewelry class was certainly one of the crown jewels of my SF vacation.
We didn’t have to bring anything ‘cept ourselves which upped the convenience factor. It ended up being a small class (7 students) which worked out well since we all got personal attention/​help if we needed it. Katy was a very patient and sweet teacher who handled bloopers with aplomb and was chock full of jewelry and stone knowledge. My wire-​wrapped pendants and golden rings look ultra-​rad! Prepare yourself for compliments.
Workshop has such varied offerings that there’s bound to be something that grabs your attention. If I lived in SF, I could see taking heaps of classes monthly. Highly recommended for folks who love to make stuff!

Workshop came to our office plaza to help us celebrate Earth Week. Everyone was invited to make terrariums, and had a total blast. Men and women of all ages were super excited about this activity. Any coworkers who didn’t make one wished they had by the end of the day. Our office is still buzzing about this event. Huge success. Thanks, Workshop!

Attended Beer School with Chris Cohen at the Workshop last weekend, found it incredibly useful, funny, and cool — just like a Unilocal review should be!
Being a tried and true Midwestern girl, beer has been a part of my life since a young age. My love affair with suds began at age six, when I first had a sip of ice cold Bud out of the can. Spent three weeks as a high school exchange student in Germany and really got to appreciate warm brew like Warsteiner and Spaten as well.
Fast forward to age thirty-​something — where I live in NorCal, with access to arguably some of the best beers in North America. Some might even say the «best», but that’s a whole other conversation. Needless to say, I’ve tapped many fine ones since moving here five years ago.
Beer school with Chris was a nice overview of three different styles of beer: German, Belgian, and U.S. He provided just enough information to make it feel high brow without boring anyone too much with important details. There were some *snobby snobs in the group who asked really random questions and pretended to know what the heck they were talking about, but Chris handled the pretentiousness with ease.
We sampled almost 15 different brews — everything from a Paso Robles Pilsner to a German Rauchbier to Belgin Wit and Lambic. No, we weren’t pounding down pint after pint, it was a true tasting experience paired with cheese, crackers and chocolate.
Three hours flew by! My gal pal and I got our $ 50-​worth for sure. Chris mentioned that there might be an Anchor spirits/​beer pairing class coming up in the future, for which I’d be totally interested. A+
*Note: To the gal sitting across the table who made a loud «blech» noise and rolled her eyes at the notion of appreciating a fresh Budweiser poured from the St. Louis brewery: Don’t knock it until you try it, sister!

Absolutely LOVE this place. I’ve gone to two outstanding classes and can’t wait to go to more! The first class I went to was a cocktail making course that was so fun and great way to kick-​off a night out. The second was a flower arranging workshop. While polar opposite classes, both were fun, enlightening, and an all around blast. The teachers definitely know how to teach and have a great time! This is a great date night idea or just a night out with the girls.

So a few weeks into my new gig and they say «you need to come up with the holiday party»… yay. A bunch of Architects, what do you do, white linen and fancy food? Hell no!
I took the group of 20 to Workshop and we had a blast! The Terrarium & cocktail class was a riot! Everyone had fun, we totally loosened up and simply enjoyed ourselves. The instructors were total entertainment and the shop itself was amazing. Its hard to describe the day, we just had an all around good time! Kelly was tolerant to my OCD through the entire booking/​set up, thank you Kelly, you are the best!
Just to note — we made a day of it — had some great pizza around the way before class then ended up in a corner bar after — it’s Monday morning back in the office and everyone is really happy and wants to go back… today. If you are thinking of an office event and not sure about Workshop — have no fear and GO!

Thought i had written a review earlier… hmmm, in any case, this place is a lot of fun… I took a pie in a jar class a few years back, succulent terrarium class and most recently, the pizza making class with Oliver and a few friends.
These classes are great for your crafting A.D.D. as they supply most items for you to be creative and learn a new skill so you can do at home. Its almost like «adult kindergarten» — you get to channel your creative inner child and show off to your friends which is like getting that gold star on your fingerpainting project!

Screen printing class was really disappointing. I’ve taken many craft classes here and there and most of time, I felt like it was worth the $$ that I paid.
During the screen printing class, you don’t make screens. You just use ink to print the patterns they have at the studio on A4 papers. For $ 45 class, I honestly expected more and for that price I think they could have included one T-​shirt or small tote to print but it is just A4 papers you can print/​practice. Also, no guarantee that you will like any patterns they have there. The class was supposed to be 3 hrs. You spend more time cleaning the screens that you used during the class (the line was long to wait to clean it and the actual cleaning process is quite long too) than doing the printing. I got really bored within 30 min. There was a guy who just left within an hour. My friend and I left early too.

I went to Danielle’s Printmaking 101 class last night. Solid instruction, nice (and talented! good grief) group of participants (capped at 8), and fun background music.
The Workshop’s space is a bit of a hole in the wall (bathroom door closes grudgingly), but if it helps keep the overhead (and thus the prices) down, it’s not such a bad thing.

Just got out of a great sewing bootcamp with Ellie. Laid back vibe and cool workshop, the space really draws out your creativity. And Ellie was fantastic; very thorough, easy to understand, and just a cool person. Best class I’ve taken in SF yet.

I had SUCH a blast with Workshop’s Camp DIY at Treasure Island Music Festival! I’m not sure why I had never heard of Workshop before, but I’m so glad that I found their tent.
Sadly, the felt pizza making party was over, so I had to settle for the flower crown workshop. Having made many plastic flower crowns in the past, you’d think that I would be «over it» because I’m not actually learning something new. But I did! For the flower crown workshop, we used real flowers /​branches and the girls running the workshop gave us solid tips on how not to stab ourselves, how to bend the plants, etc. And I know this sound sooo stupid, but I’m one of the least craftiest people out there, so it was a huge help.
I’m really excited to try out the other classes that they offer at their actual location. I have definitely tried doing DIY projects myself (making body chains, terrariums), but having to buy a ton of supplies is just a waste of money. Coming to Workshop to make the single terrarium or single piece of jewelry or whatever that I want is much easier than buying a huge set + tools that I’ll never use again.
My birthday’s coming up soon and will definitely be checking out Workshop for some fun ideas with friends!

I took the pickling class with Kelly and she’s great. Well-​spoken, knowledgable and funny. Have yet to taste my pickles though since you have to wait ~1 wk.
However, there are some big kinks that Workshop needs to work out. The class size should probably be capped at 8 or so. We didn’t have enough spices, handouts, knives or space. The jars have to be boiled for a good while so having too many people made Kelly flustered and the class ran pretty late. My friend had to leave without her jar because it hadn’t cooled enough to touch.
Also, the venue seems great for crafts but not for food. There is no functioning sink, only a hose so it’s either powerwashing your hands with a small jet or not at all. I washed best I could but my hands stung for hours with all the jalapeños we cut. I don’t think anyone washed the cutting boards because they smelled really strange. Kelly also had to prepare the brine and jars over a propane tank because the place didn’t have a stove.
I liked the course overall but $ 48 is still hefty for a class where I only came out with 2 pint jars of pickles.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience every time! We have taken a cocktail making class and a pizza class here. Inevitably a good group of people turn up, and the teachers are great. Makes for a fun learning experience. You get to drink or eat everything you create which in the case of the cocktail class leads to lot of crazy things lol!
Must try experience in SF!

I finally took my first workshop class after six months of talking about it, and I’m so glad I did. If you haven’t been to the workshop, I highly recommend checking out their once a month Friday night open house. They have a local small brewer, delicious homemade pickles and a different food vendor every month. This will give you a nice overview of the classes they offer. You really get the feel of a neighborhood hangout. Okay, so onto the class. My boyfriend and I took a juicing class. It was a two hour class where we got an overview on blending and juicing. We received recipes and we’re able to make several creations with our class. Candice our instructor was very knowledgeable. She answered all if our questions and gave us the tools we needed to feel comfortable to start juicing at home. I highly recommend signing up for their mailing list so you can stay in the loop. The Workshop us a great addition to the neighborhood.

I just took the Pickling 101 class. The instructor Kelly was awesome, the space is nice and cozy, although they should have kept the class to ¹⁰⁄₁₂ students. After meeting some great folks, we all walked out with two jars of whatever we wanted to pickle.
I can’t wait for the next class… It was a great experience.

My love of sewing has been renewed. Good thing, because my Mom can’t be making my daughter’s Halloween costumes forever. I attended my first course last night, after not having touched a sewing machine in 20+ years. Our instructor was patient and went through the steps several times. 3 hours flew by, and the next thing I knew, I had made a sock puppet and beer koozie that actually came out halfway decent.
We listened to LCD Soundsystem and Lou Reed in the background, got to drink PBR, and I had fun while learning this important skill. I highly recommend taking one of these courses and will be returning soon.

I am completely and totally in love with Workshop SF. I would marry them if I could, and I am sure there’s already a class in how to marry a workshop or make your own rings or something.
First, I got my BFF a gift certificate here and she learned to make adorable terrariums. Then I aced Christmas and got my husband a beer making class. Several bottles of «I am the one who hops» sit in my fridge. yum. Then, for my turn I took sewing 101 and finally learned what I’ve been doing wrong all these years and how to properly use my machine.
Chill, cool instructors and beers when you finish a project. Can’t wait to take another class with them.
