Wonder Cat Rescue

I was looking to adopt a pair of bonded or sibling kittens, and started putting out my feelers in January. I sent in an application to Wonder Cat Rescue mid-​January and never heard back, which I thought was fair as their website says they’ll only contact you if they think there is a good match. I understood that it was a couple months short of kitten season when kittens would be aplenty.
I emailed them to follow-​up in the middle of February, and got no response. On the same day, I found an adorable pair of brothers at Kittea and quickly discovered that their cats are provided by Wonder Cat Rescue — meaning the adoption process is handled by them as well. So I emailed Wonder Cat Rescue again to ask specifically about the brothers, and got a prompt reply back. I told Stephanie I was very interested and would like to set up a meeting at the end of the week since my boyfriend was out of town. Of course, as most animal shelters in a big city go, you aren’t allowed to «hold» animals in case the person flakes and the animal misses out on a potential owner.
Stephanie told me to check back with her 3 days later (Thursday), and if they were available we would set up an appointment to meet them. Thursday rolled around, and I sent Stephanie an email requesting an appointment. No response. Sent her an email on Friday. No response. I also called Kittea and left them voicemails to ask about the kittens’ availability, to which they never responded either.
At that point, I pretty much figured that I was never going to hear back from her and that someone else was probably going through the process of adopting the brothers (like I said, they were adorable and being at a high-​traffic place like Kittea, they were bound to be scooped up pretty quickly). And that’s fine; we weren’t able to meet them ASAP and I’m glad they have found a good home.
Stephanie emails me on Sunday telling me that they were indeed adopted by someone else. What was frustrating about the whole thing is that I had an inkling early on that this was going to happen. There are similar negative reviews on Unilocal about this very situation, and the fact that Stephanie answers her emails mostly late at night means she’s got other stuff going on — which is completely fine and actually pretty admirable. It’s not about missing out on that specific pair of kittens, but the fact that Stephanie was not upfront and honest about what was going on. I don’t mind being the «backup» if there were other people more qualified or more ready, but it would’ve been nice to know. (P.S. To that guy who thinks 1-​star reviewers are probably unqualified and hence aren’t allowed to adopt the cats they want: that’s obviously not true because Stephanie and I were communicating for a week before radio silence.)
People reading this will think, this is harsh because Stephanie runs Wonder Cat Rescue all by herself on her own time and she can’t do it all. Well, given that Wonder Cat Rescue now supports Kittea, there will no doubt be a higher demand in adoptions, so maybe they need to figure out a better system. Right now, it’s clear that there isn’t really one in regards to keeping potential owners informed and updated. I had to write this review because I feel like my time was not valued at all, and I was left feeling disappointed. I’m not leaving Wonder Cat Rescue a 1-​star because I know Stephanie is doing her best, but the process should be revisited and I hope this serves as constructive criticism.
To potential cat owners:
— The cute ones will get adopted right away, so don’t get too attached.
— The only way to communicate with Wonder Cat Rescue is by email (no phone number and no Facebook messenger). Be prepared to only get responses at night.
— Kitten season is apparently end of March — April and there will be lots of kittens to choose from!
Edit: Changing my review to a 1-​star. I was on Instagram and saw that the brothers were actually adopted separately, when the Kittea website stated they had to be adopted together. So Wonder Cat Rescue decided to split the siblings up rather than wait a few extra days for a willing home that could take in both of them… Strange. So much for doing «what’s best for the cats».

Our cat at home is 6 years old. Adopted from the local shelter in LA when she was young. She’s pretty shy and timid, so we definitely wanted to find a foster organization that would help us through the process of introducing a second cat.
The app on petfinder had an old hotmail address, so we didn’t hear a response for five days because of the typo. If you contact them make sure it’s a GMAIL address. After we cleared up that confusion, they were EXTREMELY PROMPT and ready to hold our hand through the process.
Leo had been returned twice! We couldn’t believe it. He was playful, friendly, and cute as a button… but apparently was introduced to his newfound friends a little early and caused a lot of stress in the households.
Lorin was the best foster mom you could ask for. Her own cats are ridiculously friendly and sweet as well as Leo and his two friends that we met. We couldn’t have asked for a better home for him to be brought up in. Those early months are so critical for kittens and it really shows.
We met him. Thought about it and then picked him up probably in a day or so. He’s been a happy addition to our home since last October. Granted, our own cat is still not a fan, but after a slow introduction (a week behind closed doors!) they do okay.
Leo is a perfect cat– so friendly, so playful, and so outgoing. He loves everyone and everything. Greets us at the door when we come home. Takes the abuse from our other cat only to come back in hopes she’s changed her mind. Constantly wanting to be with us. He’s great.
I highly recommend this organization. They do great work and you can tell they really love their animals.

I was very pleased with the help I received from Wonder Cat Rescue when adopting a second cat. The awesome staff worked closely with me to find a perfect match to complement my resident cat. I am so happy with my new kitten. He is healthy, loving, and a overall a big «purr» machine.
For all the 1 star haters, perhaps you didn’t hear back from them because they didn’t feel that you were reliable and mature enough to adopt a cat. I give them props for screening the potential cat owners well.

We want to adopt a cat.
Before trusting a cat rescue I decided to check Unilocal for reviews. Wonder cat rescue seemed to have good reviews, with the exception of a couple that listed unresponsiveness as the complaint. Now I must write a similar bad review.
It was a month ago that we sent in the completed adoption request form. After two weeks of no response, I contacted them again to find out what the status of our request was. Still no response.
I can say nothing about their services regarding finding homes for cats.
I can say, though, that Wonder Cat Rescue needs to remember what business their in, and learn some basic manners. I’m not sure if their just inconsiderate, or totally inept, but one would think that someone eager to give a loving home to a cat would garner a response. It’s particularly galling to know that I’ve given them personal information about myself, and I have no idea what they’ve done with that info. They certainly haven’t used it to find a home for a cat.
It’s my recommendation that if you’re looking to adopt a cat, you should deal with a professional rescue operation and not Wonder Cat Rescue.

We adopted Lyla and Beatrix a little more than a year ago from WCR. They’re beautiful and well trained. The foster parent took very good care and bought them so many toys. She gave the toys to us when we adopt our kitties. WCR is still in contact with us and really make sure our kitties are happy and have found a good home. I highly recommend WCR. Please keep in mind that foster parents from WCR are volunteers and most of them have a full time job so be patient when you email or call and they don’t respond back immediately.

I usually don’t write many reviews, but I felt an overwhelming need to write about this organization. We had contacted WCR about adopting a cute kitten we found online and fell in love with. First of all, the fact that they require the kittens to be adopted in pairs or into a home with a cat already, is asking a little much. many people don’t want a multi cat household. We do however, have a cat, and were looking to get another one. We would have made a perfect home and things seemed to be going in the right direction. But then suddenly the day we were scheduled to meet her, I received an email stating that:
«Another party that was invited to meet Bubby went yesterday and really fell in love with them both. As its our preference to adopt them as a pair we’d like to proceed with this adoption»
I wrote back saying that I was very disappointed and that I was a little put off by the organization at this point.
Which I think was a completely valid response and said it in a respectful way.
And shortly there after received another email from someone within the organization, that was extremely rude and uncalled for!
Additionally, we had been in contact with the org for over a week and a half and were very attentive about keeping constant communication about adopting and meeting the cat. I don’t know how long the «other» couple was in communication, but it seems last minute to me. And if there was the prospect of another party, we should have been informed promptly and not last minute. Which leads me to believe that we had made the first contact regarding the kitten in question.
It seems like a poorly run organization, and they were very slow on responding to emails as well
Just beware, don’t get your heart set on any cats!

We decided to foster for Wonder Cat Rescue after reading Unilocal reviews, and cannot believe how wonderful they are. Stephanie has been incredibly responsive and helpful, she is a wonderful person with the kitties best interest at heart. We have fostered three kitties so far and each experience has been great. The hardest part is not falling completely in love with each one. If you are looking to foster or adopt a rescue cat this is definitely the place to go.

WonderCat is such an amazing organization! A little over a year ago, we decided to try out fostering and ended up with sweet little Nutmeg, who of course I couldn’t give up and now have permanently adopted. Throughout the process, Stephanie at WC spent time with me, coached me through kitty sicknesses, and generally was so supportive and caring about Nutmeg’s well-​being. I’ve since fostered additional cats from them, and will continue to support this great, animal loving organization.
I’m sorry that the person who wrote the bad review had a negative experience, but I know WC is well-​meaning and does care deeply about animals. It’s a non-​profit with limited resources, hard-​working volunteers, and no paid staff as far as I know, so if a prospective foster parents has to wait a week for a response, I think that’s totally reasonable. I’d recommend being a little more patient– the kitties will still be there in a week!

Wonder Cat Rescue is a fantastic group! They work so hard to find the right match for each of their rescued felines. They are a dedicated group of volunteers working to save lives.

I adopted my 2 bundles of love «Beans and Huevos» from Wonder Cat Rescue and couldn’t have chosen a better rescue organization! What struck me was how much they truly care about the animals and that they take great precaution in chosing the right homes for their furry adoptees. I wish more people cared about animals as much as they do. Knowing they are a non-​profit and that much of the behind the scenes work is done by volunteers makes me that much more appreciative. Infact I have a friend who adopted 2 cats from them also and she had a great experience as well. Thank you Wonder Cat Rescue!

Wow, has it really been 2 years of bliss with Mr. B, my domestic partner in crime? This little guy who hid under the couch for 2 weeks now never takes his eyes off me or leaves my side except to eat and poop. A year ago, I brought Bella home to join our little happy family, thinking she would keep him company when I’m gone. Except they now fight over me. I really want to think that they secretly love each other and engage in all cat grooming and spooning when mommy’s not looking.
Yes, I’ve become a crazy cat lady in my old age.

I got two wonderful kittens from Wonder Cat, Mokey (she’s the black one) and Hanzo (he’s the brown tabby). Volunteers raise the cats in loving homes so that they never have to spend a single night in a cage. The extra love and attention they get really shows. Mokey and Hanzo are very gentle and love people. They sit in the window all day talking to everybody that walks by and rubbing against the glass. They’ve become local celebrities in our neighborhood and everyone loves them.
It’s great that there are organizations like Wonder Cat out there that work tirelessly to give unwanted cats a chance for a better life.

I’d have liked to have given them a great review, I do. But I cannot say that they deserve it at all. I’ve been trying to contact them in regards to adopting a cat for over a week, with NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER.
They have no phone number to call, only an email address. I’ve sent 3 emails, all with the adoption application attached, and have not received one single response! Even if they were to tell me that I wasn’t qualified up to their standards for adoption or something (which I know I am), I’d appreciate an acknowledgement. They have all these pictures of needy cats in foster homes and advertisements on Craigs List that are updated daily, so it’s pretty infuriating that they’re so unresponsive to my attempts at contact– obviously they don’t place that much importance on finding homes for these cats if they cant even return an email!
Really disappointed in Wondercat Rescue.

This is a wonderful organization. Their goal is to rescue cats and kittens from county and area shelters where they will be killed and foster them until they are able to find homes for them.
It was through Wonder Cat that I found my little guy. I had been searching for a kitten through craigslist, but some of the ads were sketchy, seeming like people just breeding kittens to make money and not caring about the quality of the home they were going to or caring enough to get them fixed and get their shots. But, through Wonder Cat, I was able to get my Izzy Monster’s medical history. And, they contacted me for a few weeks after the adoption to check in on the transition and offer advice.
Although I’m not allowing myself any more cats for fear of becoming the crazy cat lady, if I were going to adopt again, I would go through Wonder Cat.

Never got a cat from these folks… I have too many dogs…
I WILL say this though… wonder cat is pretty damned good at what they do. They work SO hard and drive great distances to save as many kittens from being destroyed in rural shelters… Yes, kitten season is a tragedy… Wonder cat does its part to help… Each cat and kitten is health checked and received all vaccinations etc.
GOOD, reputable people. Help them, save a life or two… adopt a kitty… The Dog Gods say THANK YOU to wonder kat rescue!

We adopted 2 of our little ones from Wonder Cat. They were great to us. Even with a few communication problems-​a huge issue with a lot of rescues, I am totally pleased. The foster moms and dads really go out of their way to make sure you get your kitties in the best possible condition. Our foster mom even played talk radio when she was out to make sure the litter she had would be well socialized and used to people.
I really like the idea of getting animals from rescues because a lot the animals have been plucked from kill shelters and given a second chance. They get to live with loving families while they wait for permanant homes instead of in cages at shelters. It’s a good thing to keep in mind when you adopt.
Our little ones just celebrated their 2^nd birthday and they’re still just about the cutest sweetest purr machines on the planet.

This is where Aaron V. and I got our lovely kitties, Mokey and Hanzo. Their cats are all listed on
, complete with pictures, a description of their personality and any special issues, and details about treatments they’ve already undergone. They have cats of all ages and a wide variety of breeds, most of which come spayed/​neutered, FeLV/​FIV tested, FVRCP vaccinated, de-flea’d, de-​wormed and microchiped. The minimum donation is $ 100 for most breeds and is more than worth it. The process was fairly quick and easy, and now we have two incredibly cute, loving, playful, mischievous additions to our home.
The staff I contacted by email about the adoption were very helpful, informative, quick to respond, and genuinely concerned about the long-​term welfare of their cats. They find out exactly what you’re looking for in a cat and encourage you do what’s best for a kitten’s upbringing to ensure the adoption is permanent. In our case, they suggested that we get two kittens so they can keep each other company and out of trouble, make them more sociable and allow them to play rough with each other instead of humans. Also, they not only allow you to return the cat to them if it doesn’t work out for any reason, but require it in the adoption contract.
What I really like about this agency is that the cats are given foster homes while waiting for permanent owners to be found, instead of kept in cages. This makes them more well adjusted to people and living in a home. Our sweeties were so friendly when we went to visit them at their foster home that they immediately came up to us, purring and mewing for attention. They were also already trained to use a litter box and scratching post, which took away most of my worry about getting kittens.
I’m very pleased with Wonder Cat and would highly recommend them to anyone considering adopting a cat of any age.

I got my two girls Coney and Queens through this wonderful organization. They save a wide variety of cats and I was able to find two sisters who have been amazing pets and great companions. Having never taken care of cats on my own, WCR was able to help me with the many trials and tribulations of adopting kittens. A great organization with an honorable cause.
