Wm. Glen & Son was established in 1869 as a quality Ladies and Gents Clothier in Callander, Scotland and grew into one of Scotland’s leading Highland Outfitters. Our store in San Francisco specializes in Kilt Outfitting, and includes a large variety of imports from Scotland, such as Woolen and Cashmere Sweaters, Tweed Sports Coats, Jewelry, Pewterware, Tartan and Clan Goods. This place is fantastic! The booze is a little over-​priced, but that’s what you’d expect from a specialty shop. Plus, their selection is pretty solid. As for the rest of it, it’s a bunch of great Scottish and Celtic stuff, ranging from the authentic (I guess) to the touristy (key-​chains and mugs!).

Cool spot for some authentic Scottish and Celtic gear. Their prices are fairly high but they have some truly one-​of-​a-​kind objects, so it seems as though you get what you pay for.
The scotch shop in the back is pretty sweet too.

This place is pretty much your one stop kilt shop!
The staff know what they are talking about, friendly, and are eager to help (a true rarity these days)
My one complaint is I wish they kept the utility kilts in stock with better size runs, I was able to get my size but it just seemed as if they are always low on the popular sizes. However, the prices here cannot be beat, their merchandise is extremely reasonable considering the rent they must pay there.
They have a wide array of Scottish gifts in the store I did not look at the whiskey selection but it looked amazing from what I could tell.
Do your self a favor and stop in here!

This place has a great selection of whiskies, all of which can be found nearer to you at a lower or higher price (think about the cost of coming to the city to visit the store).
They had a semi-​decent selection of tartan-​wear, but had all the charm of a pretentious storefront that you’d find in an airport.
There was a $ 10 limit to use my card, so the item I was going to purchase was put back on the shelf.
I give a rating of three stars: one for having a store front like this, one or their great selection of whiskies, and one for their semi-​decent selection of menswear.

Wandering around there area, we were looking for some late afternoon food options when I ran across this place. Many Scottish items sold by an actual Scotsman? In the middle of the touristy part of SF? Odd. Many cool things however, but the real strength is the Whiskey shop within far in the back.

They have a great selection of single malts from around the world. They have some japanese single malts that are actually very hard to find. Surprisingly, the prices are better than average considering the rent a business has to pay in that area. This is the only place I have ever been where the owner/​employee knew more about single malts then me. I’m a super big fan!

I was walking around on my lunch recently and stumbled across this cute shop! The first thing that caught my eye was the Irn-​Bru in the window! The yummy shining orange liquid sparkling in the window. I haven’t had Irn-​Bru since I was in Canada almost 10 years ago. I went in and got two bottles of Irn-​Bru, some chocolate bars from the UK and a habanero chutney that is delicious. They have so many cute items in there and I found a key chain and shot glass with my coat of arms on it. I didn’t purchase them but I’ll definitely be back for gift ideas. The back of the store has a whole wall of whiskey and the lady at the cash register informed me that they are the largest importers of whiskey. I’ll remember to go there the next time I need a gift for my dad :)

William Glen is a great place to rent a kilt and an ever better place to talk scotch. They have all sorts of things Scottish and Irish. Most of all, the staff is terrific, funny, and knowledgeable. Parking is super easy in the Sutter garage. Check the place out for fun and go back there when you want to buy something unusual as a gift.

I didn’t buy anything, but if you’re a guy stuck in Union Square on a shopping run, check out Wm Glen & Son. It’s got an amazing collection of whisky that makes you want to get wicked toasted with a fire in your belly. Oh, the salesman in a kilt is pretty awesome as well.
I’d have indulged in a bottle if our suitcase wasn’t so danged packed with wine bottles. Next time, gentlemen.

WM Glen & Sons is a wee little store filled with nice little products from the Scotch-​Irish side of the UK. The employees are pleasant and helpful. They are also a joy to talk to. They have a fine selection of Scottish Clan merchandise and an eclectic little array of merchandise from the UK.
They also have a fine whisky selection and are very knowledgeable about the drink. They helped me pick my very first bottle of whisky and I’ve very grateful for it.

Ever since I married a fellow who is proud/​obsessed with his Scottish ancestry/​heritage, I find myself in stores that sell Scottish things alarmingly frequently. Thus, I have developed some criteria upon which to evaluate a store stocked with Scottish wares.
Wm Glen and Son has a variety of clan names represented in their stock. My husband’s clan of choice (he’s so Scottish that he can choose from several family branches, all of which are Scottish – oy vey!) is Foster (or Forrester), and (perhaps because things need to be MORE complicated) this yields a choice between a couple of different tartans. Wm Glen and Son is able to accommodate many of these choices, as well as having a good stock of accessories bearing clan names and insignias.

Wearing a kilt to social function has changed my life. OMG, I got felt up all evening — this was just last night! It’s OK, I’m single.
I am not from the British Isles but was invited to a formal dinner in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Kilt attair for men was requested. I’m not dashing or young but decided to have go. You only live once. I was nervous going into the store but the sales staff cannot be a nicer lot. From talking on the phone to being fitted to fetching it has been a fun experience. I KNOW they were rolling their eyes at my lack of knowledge regarding terminology, etc. I received patient and dignified treatment.
Guys, if you ever get a chance to wear a kilt, take it! I’m sure, like me, you’ll be asked to see the dirk and what you’re wearing under the sporran. By the way, this being a rental, I did not go «traditional».

My husband is a proud Scot and already owns a very nice dress kilt with his clan’s tartan. But, he wanted a Prince Charlie for our wedding. We’ve visited Wm Glen before (he got excited when he noticed the Scottish import shop right next to where we were suit shopping @ Jos Bank), and we figured they probably have rentals. We got a weekend rental for the jacket + vest for $ 75. The sizing was correct when we picked it up, and the whole process was smooth and painless.
Oh, and my husband looked awesome. But what else is new?

OK I have spent a lot of money with these guys today, not just because I needed to sort myself out with a kilt and full regalia but because they made me feel welcome and at ease.
They offered me a lot of advice and they did not direct to the most expensive gear.
I got my kilt in my family tartan made to measure so it was a 2 month wait so get in early. They then helped me pick a jacket complete with all the accessories.
I cannot recommend William Glen and Son high enough. Its not cheap but then great service rarely is. I will be be back next year to buy that lovely sporron that was a little too pricey for me this time…

After spending two summers in the land of my forefathers, I was having major withdraws from the Cadbury delights known as «Wispa.» OK. clearly I’m not European, but hey, I can’t help but be envious of their confectionery awesomeness.
I know fellow Unilocalers mentioned how you can pick up some traditional garb and drink, so I’ll gloss over that. Not that my motives for going in the store could really even touch upon that anyway.
It was really by chance that I stumbled upon this place. We were staying at the Grand Hyatt for the NWM (marathon) and decided to shop a bit before heading to the airport. Walking back on Sutter I got a little distracted when I looked into the window of the shop and noticed some chocolate bars. I made a passing joke like «wouldn’t it be funny if they had Wispa bars too» and BAM… they did.
This place has a great assortment of candies from across the pond and my little heart skipped a beat with excitement. I’ll have to mention that normally I’m a rabid hater of all things chocolate, but for some reason aerated chocolate is the exception to the rule.
Even if you’re not in the mood for a tartan and bagpipe themed store, it’s worth it to broaden your sweet tooth horizon and try some of the yummies this store has.

Yeah… so, I actually bought the bottle of scotch from my birth year.
In my defense, I did spend over a year thinking about it first.
In my experience, you mostly regret the things you DON’T do. Plus, sometimes, when you forego an opportunity, it never comes around again, and then you have to live with that for the rest of your life. And I don’t need that kind of pressure, so now I am the proud owner of a bottle of scotch distilled in the proud year of my birth.
And in a few weeks, I’ll take a drink of it. Because it’ll be time.

I could not ask for more contientous service and kind-​hearted people. They have definitely made me and my husband customers for life.
We commisioned his family custom kilt and it came out perfect! We also rented all the groomsmen’s clothing for our wedding and have purchased several outstanding bottles of whisky here. We plan to do a private tasting with them for our anniversary.

I love scotch, so I can break the bank any time I shop here. They have not just great wiskey from Scottland, but they have my favorite from Japan; Suntori’s Yamazaki 12 and its less than $ 40 a bottle. Johnny Walkers a few blocks away carries the 18, but it was $ 100 last time I checked. Every few months I try something different to go along with replenishing my Suntori supply.
They have kilts and lots of Scottish stuff, also.
