Vector Construction

I met with greg and ming last year about a downstairs garage buildout. They advised me of an architect to work with and we started the process. Took multiple bids from other architects and the one they recommended seemed to be the best fit. After getting approved plans from architect and city i hired vector over several other general contractors due to past Unilocal reviews and their itemized proposal with breakdown of total costs, not just a lump sum, i wanted to know exactly what i was getting for my money and what items i would have to pay for.
We are almost done with the remodel and we couldn’t be happier with the work they’ve done and how its gone. They moved the hot water heater and washer/​dryer to the front if the garage and have not disrupted any of the upstairs services for longer than an hour or so. They are right on schedule for 3 to 4 month timetable they told us in the beginning. All city and structural inspections have gone very smooth with no surprises. Only 1 change order due to an unforeseen circumstance and very minimal. There has been someone working 6 days a week since demolition started and sometimes 2 or 3 guys. Communication has been great, you only need to tell them one time and they remember exactly what you told them you wanted. Workers are very courteous and trustworthy. I know good contractors are hard to find now days and based on our experiences with ming and greg i would recommend them for any type of job.

I needed to have some electrical work inspected by DBI. The electrician I had hired took my money and bailed on me without sitting for the inspection. The electrical permit had expired so I needed a contractor to simply reopen the permit so that I could proceed with the inspection process and get the work signed off. I was referred to Ming at Vector by one of his coworkers. I explained my situation and told him that he wouldn’t have to actually do anything and that I would attend the inspection. I only needed him to open the permit which I offered to pay for up front. Since he would not be performing any work or even inspecting any of the work that was being covered by the permit, I expected some nominal fee for opening the permit. What I discovered from his assistant was that in addition to the cost of the permit, I owed Vector Construction $ 300 for simply opening the permit!!! Had this fee been charged due to the potential liability of assuming the work of someone else, one would think that he would have performed his due diligence by at least coming on-​site and verifying the quality the work himself. But no– It was just a greedy, opportunistic money-​grab! For less than 5 minutes of work, securing a permit through DBI’s online permit application system, he expected $ 300. Outrageous! He saw that I was in a bind and just saw a way to exploit the situation to make a quick $ 300.

We’ve just contracted with Vector Construction for a third job because the work on the previous two jobs has been excellent. A year ago, Ming and his crew renovated a small house we rent. The work included a major remodeling of the kitchen, refinishing the hardwood floors, a new roof, interior painting of all the rooms including major repairs to the walls, installation of a laundry room in the garage, new windows, a new garage door and more. The work was done on time and on budget. The quality of the work was great. And best of all, Ming is very easy to work with, accommodating changes as the work progressed.
We choose Vector Construction when we recently needed to paint the exterior of our house. This was a major effort involving scaffolding along a three-​story wall, repairing the stucco and wood siding, installing a new door and other repairs. Again, the quality of the work was obvious, something neighbors commented on as the work progressed. The work was done on time and, again, Ming was a joy to work with.
The current job, which Ming is just beginning, is a much smaller job — refinishing of a concrete counter that has deteriorated over the years — but Vector Construction is willing to work on all size jobs, not just the large, more interesting ones.
We can, without reservation, recommend Ming and Vector Construction. The pricing is fair and affordable, the work is done on time, the quality of the work is excellent and they are a great company to work with.

Ming and the crew of Vector Construction did a fantastic job for us with a recent bathroom remodel. He and his crew were prompt, polite and professional. Delivered as promised with no hassle. Estimates were reasonable and they were on time!
We found Ming after a couple of disappointing experiences with other contractors and we feel really lucky to have discovered such a thoughtful and honest contractor. We have already arranged for him to work on another project and have referred him to a friend.

I was introduced to Ming from a friend who used him for a deck remodel. Ming came highly recommended and did not dissapoint. The back part of our house was taken down to the studs and we had the kitchen and bathroom reconfigured and rebuilt. Moving walls, doors, plumbing, gas lines, electrical, etc… Ming’s completed the projet on time (2 – 3 months) and on budget. And a small unexpected change we had to implement due to city codes, was done at a reasonable additional cost… some contractors might try and rake you over the coals… but Ming did not.
Now, in 2012, we are about to embark on a complete second story addition to what is a small, one story, 1BR house. I just reached out to Ming to review the architectural and civil engineering documents. I expect that this project will go as smoothly as the last.

We’ve used Ming Ng over the past few years as well. In 2007, he did a complete kitchen remodel for us. We used E3 kitchens for our cabinetry, and he worked really well with that vendor. They were able to complete our work within one month (as promised) and it turned out absolutely perfect. His price was very reasonable, he offers his suggestions and advice, and helped us decide what we wanted after hearing some of his thoughts about what would work best with our existing space.
Ming has also done some work for us at our SF rental property. He is incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and again, reasonably priced.
I highly recommend Ming and Vector Construction. If you’re looking for honesty, hard work and quality, you’ve found your contractor.

We’ve worked extensively with Vector Construction over the past few years as we’ve given a facelift to just about every room in our house. Vector Construction has been a great partner through and through and we’ve been extremely pleased with their work.
On our first job with them, Ming and his team did extensive work on our house, both inside and out. They can pretty much do anything: they replaced all our windows, gave our kitchen a facelift, sheet rocked our garage for earthquake retrofitting, turned an unwarranted room into a properly warranted one, and built a beautiful new deck and fence in our overgrown, somewhat treacherous backyard. Ming’s team took great care to protect the rest of our house throughout all this work, and cleaned up at the end of each day. We started with a much smaller statement of work and gradually added scope over time, but Ming was flexible and adjusted the plan with us as we went along. His team was also kind enough to help us out with a few odd requests during that time (e.g., lifting our oversized sofa in through a second-​floor window).
We recently finished a second project where Ming and his team helped us overhaul our entry way from a dank, dark hallway to a spacious sunlight infused entrance. We didn’t use an architect or interior designer. We just explained our vision to Ming, and his team made it happen.
We’re about to start work on a third, smaller project. We were worried it would be too small for Vector Construction (expanding a closet in our master bedroom), but they’re willing to take on jobs great and small, so we’re looking forward to getting started.
Finally and probably most importantly, Vector Construction is very affordable. When we first started, we got quotes from four different construction companies. We liked Vector construction the best, and then when all the estimates were in, we were overjoyed to discover that they also happened to be the most affordable.

Ming did a wonderful job remodeling our kitchen from the beginning — ceiling to floor demo — to completion. His project was clean, prompt in its progress and flexible to meet custom demands. Ming also impressed us with his ability to troubleshoot the installation and operation of the new appliances as well as being very solid on all ordinary elements of the construction.
