Description

Specialties

We specialize in traditional wing chun martial arts training. The US Wing Chun has perfected a centuries old system to adapt to modern times while preserving the lineages from the 1600’s.

US Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy’s founder, Grandmaster Chris Chan, was formally trained by the late Grandmaster Yip Man in Hong Kong. Our Chief Instructor has been training thousands of practitioners throughout his 55+ year career.

The school now offers group classes and private lessons for adults and children as young as 4 years old. We also provide training certifications for instructors. The school has branched out into selling custom Wooden Dummy training equipment as well through its site at MookJong.com.

History

Established in 1960.

For the past fifty years, Grandmaster Chan has taught men, women, and children around the world and has gained the reputation as one of the most powerful and knowledgeable martial artists. He was the first Chinese instructor to teach the secretive and hidden aspect of Chinese martial arts to the public. With his engineering knowledge, Grandmaster Chan has enhanced his understanding and teaching of the Wing Chun system, as «Wing Chun is the highest and most sophisticated form of human engineering.»

Grandmaster Chan taught in various garages all over San Francisco, eventually finding a home for his school in the Sunset district. Today, the US Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy has expanded to teach corporate businesses, gyms, and other locations around the Bay Area. Over the years, Grandmaster Chan has provided students with self-defense skills, improved health, and increased connection between the mind and body. Lil’ Wabbit is the latest branch of Wing Chun Kung Fu, inspired by Grandmaster Chan

Grandmaster Chris Chan was born in Hong Kong in the Year of the Dragon and learned basic kung fu exercises as a teenager. In 1955, he witnessed Wing Chun Kung Fu for the first time and was so impressed he immediately became a student of the late Great Grandmaster Ip Man. After training with Great Grandmaster Ip Man and Bruce Lee, Grandmaster Chan came to America in 1960 to earn a living teaching Wing Chun while studying engineering in college.
