I have been taking my whole family to Desiree for a few years now and am so happy to have found her! She has solved my kids’ rat’s nest issues while still giving them the styles that they wanted and is also great with my husband’s hair and beard. She is talented with color and has great intuition with my cuts. I also love her charming and true San Francisco location!

I have been getting great cuts and fab color from Desiree for a long time now, she always knows how to pull off something creative yet appropriate to my style and life. The salon is cute and retro in feel and Desiree is fun to chat with while she transforms you! Bonus is the very cool hat store that you pass through to get to Under Your Hat, who play excellent music!

I have been searching for years for the perfect stylist. Finally I found her! Desiree is highly talented in the art of hair, from cuts, color and general health of my hair. Everything has been an improvement for me since I started going to Under Your Hat for all my hair styling needs. I trust her completely and recommend her to all my friends. Men and women alike, she knows how to cut and style for everyone. And did I mention color! She has created the most beautiful red velvet color for me. I always look forward to coming in and getting all spruced up at Under Your Hat with Desiree.

I absolutely love Under Your Hat Salon! It is one of the most versatile salons that I have ever been to. Their staff is small but mighty. Most stylists specialize in color, or texture or you’ll hear stylists say thinks like, «I don’t do updo’s». At Under Your Hat Salon no job is too small or too big and they have a friendly warmth that you don’t always find in the overpriced hipster salons of SF.
After reviewing the Salon’s diverse portfolio and noticing that they had a specialty that most salons don’t offer, a knack for vintage hair styles from the 1960’s, I knew I couldn’t go anywhere else. I initially hired the owner, Desiree for the hair and makeup of my Motown themed wedding and the quality of her work was exquisite! Desiree whipped together four unique up do’s (think beehives, twists and barrel curls) and makeup pairings that really brought to life the Mad Men era look I wanted for my bridal party. It was like stepping back in time and my wedding guests raved about it!
But beyond a flawless wedding experience, I frequent Under Your Hat Salon for a variety of hair treatments all the way from East Bay because it is that good. And, because I trust my stylist who always leaves me looking good and feeling like a modern day version of Brigette Bardot. Come in for a hat but stay for the hair ;)

Not many stylists know what to do with my impossibly curly/​frizzy hair, but Desiree has a real knack for shaping natural curls. She always leaves my hair soft, sexy and much easier to manage. She can even wrangle my mop into sweet vintage up-​dos for special occasions! Tucked into a beautifully decorated loft above one of San Francisco’s swankiest custom milliners, Under Your Hat is a full fashion experience. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I went to about 10 different hairstylists in San Francisco before finding Desiree, she is the best! I love my haircut and I get a ton of compliments. I always enjoy my time with her, and leave feeling great about my hair! She has great ideas and is willing to take some risks, which I love. I would highly recommend her. Plus the location can’t be beat, in a loft above a super cool hat shop, it’s a ton of fun.

Under Your Hat Salon is a hidden treasure nestled above the long-​time San Francisco millinery, Paul’s Hat Works. The salon and shop provide a sophisticated and vintage charm, which translates to the talented hair styling you’ll receive from Desiree’s artistic hand.
I’ve trusted Desiree with my hair as soon as she landed in the salon a couple of years ago. She’s spunky and easy talk to, but takes your hair styling seriously. She can somehow translate what I’m asking for into a beautiful cut and color every time. In fact, she does such a good job, I sometimes go longer than I should without seeing her. I continually receive complements on my cut and color, and I owe it all to her.

There are two things important to me in a hair stylist. 1) Does a great job at cutting and coloring hair, and 2) has a good attitude and personality, since I am going to be sitting there a while as the goo on my head works its magic. I always see Desiree when I come here, and she hits both criteria out of the park. She does a fantastic job with cutting and coloring my hair, and time flies by as we chat and sip some tea. I’ve been seeing her for over a year now, and I constantly get compliments on my hair.
And while I personally wouldn’t mind paying a lot of money at a fancy salon to get my look, It’s petty awesome that her prices are reasonable to boot. Give this place a chance!

Desiree is brilliant she completely fixed botched highlights and now my hair looks amazing! I highly recommend her and her salon to the women who compliment the shades of blonde she’s transformed my dull brown hair into. Adorable location.

Desiree is very skilled at everything she does but I specifically go to her for the old style rockabilly haircuts. She gives the best fade I’ve ever had and will do exactly as you tell her. Besides always being very cute and chipper she is an easy person to carry on a conversation with, or stay quiet and just let you relax and enjoy being pampered. I can always count on some complimentary coffee, bourbon, or popcorn freshly made out of an old rustic style popcorn machine that blends right in with the vintage style salon with antique artifacts Desiree has collected over the years.

Desiree is a wonderful and talented hair stylist! She is a refreshing cure for all those people in your life who tell you what you «can’t» do with your hair. She will help you find a liberating new style! I have recommended her to everyone I know and she has never disappointed. Also, how cool is it to climb a spiral staircase and have your hair done in a vintage hat shop run by awesome women?
