UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital

I work here… so I’m completely biased! Let’s just be honest though… big beautiful new hospital? CHECK! One of the best cardiac surgeons available? CHECK! Legit NICU, PICU, CICU, L&D? CHECK! Another world renowned cardiac surgeon possibly coming here as well who has had procedures named after him/​her? CHECK! A brand new facility that is constantly growing and is rated in the US NEWS Top Children’s Hospitals and Specialties? CHECK! 70″ flat screen tv’s in each room for the kiddos & family members? CHECK! R2D2 robots we call «TUGS» that roam around the hospital making deliveries (LOL) CHECK! A Peet’s Coffee plus a good Cafeteria? (Trust me, hospital cafeteria’s aren’t always the place to be) CHECK! Right by the property of the upcoming GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS planned ARENA? CHECK! Beautiful views & wonderful staff? CHECK! Great respiratory therapists? CHECK CHECK CHECK! lol. I like the hospital overall, great stuff and very clean facilities… I’m giving four stars because the wait can be a little overwhelming…

This hospital is amazing as well as the staff. After dealing with doctors who I feel don’t care about my child or what I think, going to this ER was a breath of fresh air. The entire staff from the security when you first enter to the wonderful nurses and doctors who get you checked in and looked are all very sweet and caring. They also interact with the kids, which shouldn’t be a surprise but, sadly, not a lot of pediatricians do so this was a big plus for me. They listened to all my concerns and took their time figuring out what the issue was with my son. Left there feeling so relieved and happy with the service!

I was rushed to this hospital when my newborn choked & stopped breathing. Thankfully all was ok but the staff at this hospital were excellent. In particular the head charge nurse Anna who was caring, helpful, attentive & completely empathetic to me & the scary position I had found myself in. The two doctors in attendance were excellent too but it was Anna’s advice that really resonated with me & felt like I was talking to a friend who’d been through a similar experience.

My daughter had a 58 degree scoliosis surgery and this was the nicest, newest, hospital with the most professional and compassionate people I’ve ever met. Dr. Mohammed Diab made my daughter feel comfortable and did a great job. We can’t thank you enough. Tracy Curtis helped us above and beyond our expectations. All of the nurses and housekeeping so nice. Being able to contact Marcus Merino direct made scheduling appointment a breeze. Over all perfect experience!

Benioff Children’s E.R. knows how to deal with people with autism. My son has meltdowns and can become very aggressive. On April 20^th, he became aggressive at the UCSF Dental Clinic and, faced with a 2.5 hour drive with home from San Francisco to the Salinas area, I brought him to the Benioff E.R. The entire staff, doctors, nurses, technicians, security, social worker, not to mention the county staff that evaluated my son, were all compassionate, efficient, and professional. As though that were not enough, in my panic to go into the E.R., I left the lights on our car, so the battery was dead when we finally left the E.R., but a doctor passing through the parking lot kindly gave us a jump.
My commendations and gratitude to this wonderful institution. The new building itself is stunning and, by itself, is worth seeing.

This new facility is absolutely beautiful! State of the art. You can even check in at a kiosk if the line at the desk is too long, which it usually isn’t, because they’ve done a great job breaking up departments.
So happy they moved out of Parnassus too. While I miss the view of the Golden Gate Bridge, I don’t miss fighting traffic through the city to get there.
For me, coming from the East Bay, this location is way easier for me to get to.
I haven’t been in a room, but I hear they are state of the art. Huge TVs. Ability to pick movies and even do homework on the tv. Designed to make kids feel like they are at a hotel rather than a hospital. Very cool!

Took my 12 month old to the new pediatric Emergency Department at Mission Bay at 3am last week. It was our first trip to the ED as new parents. She had a fever and potential ear infection and we were due to fly/​air travel the next morning.
Made the appointment online (it automatically defaults to ~2 hours out), and they immediately called me, said there was no wait and to bring her right in, they would have a bed ready. We drove up, walked through the door, they escorted us directly into the room, and the nurse and physician came in quick sequential order. We were in and out within an hour. It was absolutely an incredible experience, and went faster than our regular primary care visits go. UCSF has really done something right. I have a long work history in health care and this is what we’ve all been aiming for.

Beautiful building, excellent care.
We came here to see an orthopedic surgeon and from parking, to registration, to x-​ray and the actual appointment things went smoothly and everyone was incredibly friendly.
The building was very pleasant, child-​friendly and bright.
