Tutorpedia offers expert 1-​on-​1 tutoring in math, science, English, history, foreign language, and test-​prep (SAT, ACT, etc.). Our tutors specialize in homework instruction, test preparation, study skills and organizational strategies.

History

Established in 2004.

Tutorpedia was started in 2004 by two Stanford graduates to serve the private tutoring needs of families and individuals throughout five Bay Area counties, including Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa.

We carefully match students (grades K-​12) with their own private academic tutor well-​versed in subject-​specific homework instruction, test preparation, and overall development of study and organizational skills. Our tutors travel to your home each week based on a schedule that works for you and your child.

Beyond traditional academic tutoring, Tutorpedia also offers high school and college test preparation services on a 1-​on-​1 basis.

Sy K.

Manager

Director of Operations, Sy Kim, is a graduate of elite prep school, Phillips Exeter Academy. After high school, she moved on to the University of Maryland to earn a BA in English Language and Literature. Sy came to Tutorpedia in 2013 with over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience in AP English, Math, and secondary school and college test prep. While living in Korea, she specialized in boarding school and college admissions counseling and managed several education companies before returning to the US and becoming part of the Tutorpedia family.

A friend referred me to Tutorpedia. I have had an exceptional experience with them and this is mainly because of Emma Bundy. Emma is the heartbeat of this organization. She will not stop until she finds the best fit.
She is the commando — McGiver –who can find tutors at the last minute !
All the tutors are fantastic and they come to your home. My daughter’s favorite is Charlene Brown. Charlene brings a world of knowledge with her every session; starting with breathing techniques to de-​stress. My daughter is relaxed to absorb all the learning.
You receive an email the next day detailing how the session went and what your child learned– any problems etc.
The point is, they care about your child and whether the fit is right. Exceptional tutors.

Charlene has been tutoring my 7th grader for a couple of months now and it is fabulous to watch the difference it is making in my daughter’s self esteem and self confidence. We have Charlene to tutor in Spanish although there was a very stressful science test last week. My girl was not able to focus a second on Spanish and was super stressed over science. Charlene was able to get her to calm down, taught her techniques to use later on as well, and was successful in getting my daughter to a place where she could get past the anxiety the test was causing, and actually study the material. Charlene is not just about course content but she also focusses on study habits, learning capacities and overall environment for learning, both internally and externally. My girl is thriving! Thank you Charlene!

I recently had the opportunity to work with Emma from Tutorpedia. My daughter had an emergency weekend tutoring need. I cannot tell you how wonderful Emma was in communicating with my daughter at all hours of the day and night to find my daughter an appropriate tutor (AP Calculus) which worked out wonderfully on a Sunday morning. I highly recommend Tutorpedia!!!

We were referred to Tutorpedia from a college admissions coach. The company is very professional, promptly returned my calls and worked with me to find the most economical package.
Both my sons were tutored by Matt in calculus and algebra 2, not only did he help them increase their test scores and overall grades, he encouraged them to study and set up guidelines to help them. Matt’s demeanor and style of teaching fit perfectly with teenaged boys. The boys thoroughly enjoyed working with Matt.
Tutorpedia and Matt was well worth the money spent.

Tutorpedia is a wonderful organization .Seth and his team are competent, caring, communicative and highly professional. Alex, the tutor my 11 year old sabrina has, is amazing — she is smart, patient and totally reliable. This year, we discovered that sabrina has some learning disabilities[despite being a gifted child] and her tutor has played a key role in helping my child and saving my sanity!

We were ecstatic when approached by Seth, Tutorpedia’s founder, who wanted to partner with our organization to provide tutoring and other services for our youth. Seth and his staff have worked with us over the last year to provide college workshops with phenomenal speaking panels coordinated by Tutorpedia, and they have continued to be stable partners who are open to new ideas on how to work together to best serve the community. The first time I took the LSAT, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I took a prep class with Testmasters that introduced me to the material, but I still had a really tough time on test day. After receiving a very disappointing score, I called Seth at Tutorpedia. He set me up with an LSAT tutor right away and I started meeting with the tutor two times a week for 2 hours. The tutor helped me make a study plan and set goals for myself. We evaluated and broke down my last test looking at specific sections that needed improvement. Right away I felt at ease with the tutor, who came to my house, always on time, and prepared to work with me as professional. After three full weeks of tutoring, I took my first practice test, scoring 13 points higher then I had on any test I had taken the first time around. I was shocked at how much the one on one tutoring had improved my score. I continued to work with my tutor for the next month and a half, feeling more and more comfortable with the test as time went on. My score stayed consistent until I took the actual test scoring 10 points higher then my previous official LSAT score. I was blown away. I cannot thank Tutorpedia enough and I would recommend them for LSAT tutoring to anyone looking to dramatically improve their score.

We’ve had three tutors with Tutorpedia over the years, two for Algebra I & II, one for the SATs. The two algebra tutors were excellent. The SAT tutor was out of this world, the best tutor imaginable. You should probably know that I’m a UC Berkeley professor, and that we tried three different tutors with our daughter before Tutorpedia (two independents and one Kaplan course). Kaplan is a one-​size-​fits-​all program: if their model doesn’t fit your needs, it won’t work. The two independents were pretty poor tutors (one of them had to keep breaking off to take care of her toddler!), and it took a lot of time to find them and set up times … just to discover they weren’t even close to suitable. Because Tutorpedia does the vetting for you and contracts with a number of tutors, you have a choice: if one tutor doesn’t work, try another. And because they don’t buy into a specific program, tutors will tailor what they do to your and your child’s own specific needs.
