«Everyday shuffling» — that would be the slogan here if the elder folks were more Americanized and hip with the younger generation. And by shuffling, it means shuffling the Mah Jong pieces.
This is a very traditional Chinese American social association with various generations, though mostly the older generation now days. Languages spoken here are mostly Shanghainese, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

For the past three years, I’ve been acquainted with one of the families that are a mainstay cornerstone of this social club. Thus, I’m invited to events (i.e. yearly new year festivities).
The club «headquarters» itself is on the third floor of the building and occupies a large gathering space, a balcony view overlooking Jackson Street, mah jong tables, a kitchen, and rest amenities. That said, it’s a pretty basic space for generational gathering of families and old friends.
Not sure how you «join» the association per se or how you maintain your stake in it, but being affiliated via family seems to have been the only way «in».
Overall, very accommodating, sociable, and sweet folks who enjoy eating, playing mah jong, and can speak a variety of languages: Shanghainese, Mandarin, some English and HKCantonese.
