Wingtip

Wingtip is a top-​notch men’s store with an outstanding staff whose customer service and attention to detail comes from the top. Case in point. It was New Year’s Eve, I was putting together my tuxedo for a formal event, and realized that the tie that I’d bought earlier in the week was the wrong style. I hurried to the store, only to find that, as expected, they closed a little early to give staff time to prepare for their own celebrations. I bumped into Ami literally as he was locking the door and shaking hands with security. Without batting an eye, he opened the doors, helped me find the right tie, and sent me on my way looking perfect. I have many stories of service like this from Wingtip, but I wanted to share this one with Unilocalers in case you are wondering where to go if you want to build a relationship with the people who help you look good and feel great. If you are looking for that type of experience, come to Wingtip… a place that after a few purchases, you know the name of «go to guys» like Ami and Ian and Bruce, for any of your menswear and accessories needs.

I purchased two pairs of pants on sale on ¹²⁄₁₇ from Jodi. Because they were sale-​priced, they charged me $ 15 each, $ 30 total, for a simple alteration — plain bottoms. It takes a good tailor about 10 minutes to do this. Eleven days later, on 12/​28, I spent about 30 minutes in rush hour traffic, parked illegally and ran into the store to pick up my pants. Guy ran downstairs, handed them to me, and I ran back to my car. Two days later, as I was packing for my trip for which I purchased the pants, I discovered that THE PANTS WERE NEVER altered. I tried calling their telephone number, during normal business hours, and no one answered. No one ever seems to answer the phone. In a lot of years, I’ve never had such an experience. These guys ripped me off — charging $ 30 for work they never did — they don’t answer their phones, and they left me high and dry. Now I need to find someone who will actually do the work that I paid these idiots to do. What a rip-​off!

I recently joined the club and it’s been a great experience. There is no better place in downtown to have an intimate business meeting outside the office; whether it’s over breakfast, lunch, a drink, or a game of pool. The design, the drink selection, and the staff are all outstanding.

I love this place. High quality products and xcellent service, but not pushy. This is not a chain men’s store where a salesperson is going to pounce on you when you walk in. And when you do want service, they take as much time as you want, no matter what you want to spend. I have been to Wingtip three times and I will be back. Bruce is the best.

Private club. Probably not the one for me. Not particularly impressive — view isn’t very good, alcohol collection was underwhelming, and food was average. Friendly staff, though.

If you need something specific, just ask. you’ll get all the help you need. the staff will not pounce on you, or follow you– you are an adult. If you have a question.. . Ask.

Came into wingtip to try to buy some barware and I gotta say this place is very cool and it has tons of great everything! So here is why I’m giving them one star no one greeted me at any point and I kept getting stared at like I was gonna steal something or didn’t belong there! Maybe I was just the wrong color or didn’t fit the look? Anyways if you come here make sure to bring a friend that fits the right look and color and for sure you will be taken care of~ or just stay away unless you want bad looks!!!

I have to agree this is not all that. I was in there early morning Saturday and the three standing at the counter doodling with their phones wasn’t interested in helping me with a shirt and a belt. So I left and went back to Saks men’s. You lost! I like to shop at least say hi.

The way brad has chosen to handle the issues I have addressed previously; is above and beyond what I was hoping for. I’m excited to give this place a second shot and maybe become a member. This place really intrigues me, I’m looking forward to returning in the future.

Came here for a private event on the «penthouse» floor. Amazing space, though we did not get the full experience of the place. We did a self guided tour and it does seem like a great idea. I would return if invited. The views from the 11^th floor were amazing.

The store is nice, but the club? Not so cool.
Actually, let me stop myself… I LOVE the old-​San Francisco vibe of the entire WingTip space, both the downstairs store and the upstairs privado club. And who wouldn’t? Housed in an old Italian bank, the setting is beautifully vintage. The merchandise inside the store? On point. Classy, vintage (and new) classics, from clothing to lifestyle pieces.
What I really don’t care for is the private club. I will admit that the space is actually much more old-​time beautiful than The Battery. Very masculine, very «gentleman’s club», and a little more sophisticated-​chic. And those views? Stunning! If I had to go with design, I’d be at Wingtip all day, every day.
But there’s just no cache to this place. Honestly, you feel like you’re in a spot that just isn’t cool, and dare I say, corny. Not to mention that some of those private «conference» rooms seem a little suspect, like they could be used for some other extracurricular activities, if you know what I mean.
My experience with the membership people (won’t name names, but two men) felt very used-​car-​salesman-​ish. The «we-think-we’re-classy-but-we’re-actually-kinda-trasy» vibe doesn’t fool me. It’s like they’re stuck in the Wingtip bubble thinking that this is the place to be, when in fact, um… I hate to say it, but all the cool people probably want to be at The Battery.
Net-​net, I wouldn’t even think of purchasing a membership to this place. Just seems a little too corn-​ball and needs some cache.

Wingtip is a special place.

Just a superlative experience. My wingmen and I were treated to experience the club on the 10^th and 11^th floors of this iconic building. Very unassuming and un-​stuffy environment where we could relax, find a secluded corner to enjoy conversation and drinks, then escape to the billiards table or cigar lounge without a care in the world. Obvious attention to detail with the décor and the place has an established yet modern atmosphere with expected and unexpected refinements.
Service was unobtrusive and polished, making us non-​members feel fully vested if only for a few hours. I can’t speak to the cuisine but Pam at the front desk holds court and Peter behind the bar creating exceptional cocktails. It’s not often that my watch leaves my wrist but today, the time seemed to go slowly and that’s just fine by me.

With your membership you get a monthly store credit, which accrues over time. Essentially, your membership is prepayment for merchandise. Love this model.
A friend of mine has been working here for a while and gave me a tour of the facility. The details of the space are beautiful, love each theme in every room. Chess boards, meeting rooms, private event spaces, and quality cocktails + snacks at the bar. Will definitely be back again when I am in town.
Very different than the other social club (which seems to be more tech oriented) down the street. Met a couple of nice people when I was here who were friendly but not intrusive. If you’re looking for a «meet» market, you may want to try a different spot. I loved it here!

This is the men’s store part of Wingtip, everything on floor 2 and higher is their private social club.
I was first drawn in because I was curious to see what had become of the old Bank of Italy building. I was not disappointed. They’ve done some serious remodeling, but many of the original architectural elements and decorations of the original bank are still intact. Most of the ground floor is restored and original and you can go downstairs and wander the vaults with all the safe deposit boxes opened up.
I picked up a pair of 1000 Mile Boots. The salesman was great and, before I knew it, he had a dozen varieties of boots laid out in front of me without once returning with news of being out of stock of anything.
I probably walked past this place 50 times before I realized I could go inside. All you see from the street is a security guard at a desk right at the front door which isn’t exactly a welcoming sight for a store, but apparently the guard is just there to check people in to the social club upstairs.

A regular looking shop on the ground level and an exclusive private club on the 9^th level! Lucky me! My friend is a member here and I get to go every so often.

Eaten here a couple of times, not a big fan but I don’t go here for the food anyway :)

Firstly, I’m just reviewing their storefront as this Unilocal listing is for a ‘Department Store’, not a club or restaurant. The location of the store is beautiful. The old bank, the barber in the vault — it’s all lovely and definitely worth peeking inside. The products are interesting and there’s quite a variety (fishing gear to whiskey to clothing to shaving supplies to cigars).
All that being said, the place is a slight disaster — all the products are strewn about the otherwise beautiful space, with seemingly little attempt at organization. The absolute worst part about it all is their customer service. I have walked into the space several times, staring blankly at their doorman? cashiers? and they would NOT EVEN MAKE EYE CONTACT with me. I literally stood there for several minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence. I’d considered getting some whiskey for myself (yes, I’m a woman, but I don’t have everything), or some fishing gear or a wallet for my male relatives/​friends.
Alas, now that I know they don’t want my business, I won’t be going back except to check out the pretty, pretty space.

«We welcome the 1, 30X, 41…» to be ignored when entering our store.

This is a private social club where membership is needed to grant access or you have to know a member to get in. I didn’t even know this place existed. It has beautiful views of the Transamerica Building.
Great food and variety of drink. We tried the buccatini, brussel sprouts and burrata with honey and everything was amazing. And the whiskey (can’t go back to Jameson!).
Service is impeccable. Excellent and personable staff. This place would be great for wining and dining clients.
The space is gorgeous. An upscale gentleman’s refuge in the financial district with pool tables, golf simulator, poker tables, board room, dining hall, 360 bar, and complete with ready to loan designer watches, pocket squares and ties. Amazing.

This is specifically for the upper level club: Floors 10 and 11 I believe.
Ami has outdone himself in my opinion. This is a very very nice club where one can have a private meeting, a lovely cigar, a lovely drink, a nice meal… you get the picture.
The space is marvelous: Think dark wood paneled walls, lovely carpets, old world tool died metal ceilings, posh rooms with posh leather seats. And then there are the views of Coit tower, the financial district and more. They will eventually have a marvelous deck for dinning and such that overlooks the Transamerica building.
The Menu:
There are many spaces to watch, read, smoke, and drink. I loved the billiard room, the private meeting rooms, the main bar, the smoking rooms… there are alot of great rooms and the two levels afford plenty of space just to chill
Plenty of flat screen televisions showing sports, cnbc, bloomberg and the likes.
The staff is exceptional.
I like that you can store your wine, booze, and cigars in private lockers.
It is well worth your time if you are into these things to check it out. You might just come back and back and back!

Upon hearing about this place, I knew I had to swing by and see this place with my own eyes. This is the kind of store SF desperately needs (although I feel like I am somewhere in Soho /​Meatpacking District in Manhattan when I am in here).
Space — The converted bank is is quite the touch; the layout of the store makes creative and effective use of the space. The rooms within vaults and attention to detail transports you back in time (think Mad Men). I love the unique attention to detail i.e. craps table near the front of the store.
Service — Top notch. These people know their clothing, style etc. The biggest pet peeve men have with shopping at department stores is the the lack of knowledge from sales reps. This is not the case here. Have questions about suits, occasions etc? Come here.
Inventory — This is where I have to subtract points. I give Wingtip credit for assembling a one-​stop shop for men’s clothing. Usually department stores or other specialty shops like J. Crew, Club Monaco or Massimo Dutti will require you to do some digging to find distinct, quality pieces to enhance your wardrobe. The issue I have is while this place seems to have everything you need i.e. collar stays, barber /​shaving tools and other accessories, the core items and accessories i.e. (dress shirts, shoes, shoelaces, socks heck boxers) are lacking. This part of the business leaves more to be desired.
Price — Overpriced. Even though they take the hassle of assembling everything under one roof and providing amazing customer service, there is still quite a hefty markup. You are paying for the convenience.
Who do I think this store is ideal for? Anyone who:
–doesn’t have a significant other who knows how to shop,
–has lots of money to spend and
–has little time to do his research and scour stores for deals
–needs something last minute for their wardrobe
–is totally clueless when it comes to fashion
If you have help, time, or the ability to do some research, you can put together your own wardrobe at a fraction of the cost. I am confident that if you spend time waiting for the right opportunities to shop at stores like J. Crew, Club Monaco, Massimo Dutti, Saks, Cole Haan, Thomas Pink, Paul Smith, Ted Baker, Ben Sherman, Hugo Boss and Bloomingdales you can find just what you are looking for in terms of style and fit without looking like you are another cookie cutter BR shopper.
What most stores fail at is providing useful recommendations; the shopper is forced to search endlessly for specific items across multiple floors and even then the service is often times lacking. With a little determination, you can become a better shopper and develop a keen eye for fashion. The key is patience. Wait for friends and family deals and sign up for email alerts on upcoming sales.
This is a great place to visit, explore and get ideas for clothing but I suggest doing yourself a favor on your wallet and shopping elsewhere. Be warned — building your wardrobe takes months if not years; if you want something asap, then go here.
