Today’s Dentistry

Dr. Soe is an excellent dentist and his staff is highly professional. How many dentist do you know that will provide services within 24 hours of an medical emergency? Not many, but Dr. Soe is a compassionate and highly skilled dentist that cares about his patients. Dr. Soe provides many services such as implants, filings, extractions, etc, and his work is excellent. I have gone to many dentist that have high tech equipment, and believe me, you pay for it in your service. Dr. Soe is focused on professional and affordable service and treatment and goes out of his way to help those less fortunate have the treatment they deserve. His work is pain-​free, he’s been my dentist for 3 years, I love his staff and I appreciate the work he does for me and my family. If you want an excellent dentist, go see Dr. Soe. You will be happy.

I recently switched to Dr. Soe as my dentist & it’s been a great decision! I got my exam and cleaning done last week. Dr. Soe and his staff was very courteous and polite. Dr. Soe listened to my dental problems and did my exam using an intraoral camera. I could see exactly where the issue was and what was causing it. He gave me all the treatment options for my teeth including waiting and keeping watch on non urgent issues. He didn’t try and sell any unnecessary treatment. I didn’t have to do x-​rays as I could transfer them from my old dentist. I’m very happy with this place and pleasantly surprised to see the latest technology being used in this modest practice — so much better than my Union Square and West Portal dentists!

Horrible experience. I go in and they tell me I have multiple cavities… more than my insurance can even begin to pay for. Having grown up to believe my doctors and dentists, I allowed them to start with as many teeth as I could afford.
They started with three of my lower left molars.
First even though they gave me shot after shot of novocain, I could still feel a tremendous amount of pain during the drilling. this is the first time in my life that I ever started to fear a dentist.
A few days after the fillings, I’m using dental floss and part of my filling came out. I started experience hellacious pain, so went back in immediately. He looks and looks and insists that nothing is wrong/​missing. I held part of the damn filling IN MY HAND. so he relented and redrilled (again causing pain despite the supposed novocain).
He never took new xrays just instisted that nothing was wrong and he didn’t do anything wrong.
Finally he’s done. Less than a year later, an entire cuspid off my molar broke off. I didn’t go back to this charlatan.
His excuse for the pain was «the lower jaw isn’t as effected by novocain so you’ll still feel something» and yet, when the doctor who finally fixed my molar gave me a single shot of novocain, there was no pain whatsoever.
I don’t know if he wasn’t using real novocain or it was old… but he was an out and out liar and possible sadist. STAY AWAY!
P. S. the next dentist I saw said I only had one other cavity (although I may never have had the cavities the original dentist said I had). This is five fewer cavities than they told me I had at today’s dentist.
This guy should lose his license and prosecuted for fraud.

Today’s Dentistry is the one make me feel comfortable and trust. Because I went to that office when I needed to fix my fillings a month ago. Dr. Soe showed me with oral camera how many fillings need to do. I could see how big my fillings are. Two of them are almost to do root canal but he said he will try me first with fillings not to cost you time and a lot of money. How considerate he is! Before I have done anything, they made the consultation with estimate. The prices are reasonable and doable since I don’t have the insurance. His soft and gentle hands make me comfortable fixing my big fillings. Office stuffs are really helpful and friendly. Actually I am the one who is scared to go to dental office but after I went there, my fear are gone. I am decided to go there every 6 months to check up and fix my teeth if needed. I am highly recommended to go there. That office is very comfortable and fully trustworthy.

I have been Today’s Dentistry for my front teeth crowns for cosmetic works. The doctor name is Dr. Soe. He is very considerate and thoughtful in my case. First of all, he made a detail plan for me before I have to do those. And made sure that the crowns will be fit in good looking position with temporary crowns. Finally after I have delivered my crowns, they are amazing even look much better than real teeth. I really love what he had done for me. And also the fronts desk representatives are very friendly and helpful. I am highly recommended to go that dental office.

SCAMMERS — watch out! These people should be in jail for Medi-​Cal fraud among other things.
1) They told me I needed 2 root canals that I did NOT need. Thankfully I went to UCSF afterwards where several X-​rays and 3 specialists concluded this was total BS. This place LOVES to milk the poor /​disabled by lying to them about unnecessary work.
2) They require $ 60 up front for a root canal appointment. When booked, I asked if I get that money back when I show up on time for the appt. «Yes, of course» I was told. When came time for the appointment then I’m told «oh no, you don’t get that back, that goes toward your bill.» What kind of scamming is this?! Then they tell me I need to pay $ 800 CASH right now before going in to see the dentist. Note, this was never discussed with me at my prior appointment. When I said that I don’t walk around with the much money on me and I would need to reschedule they said (and I quote):
«well, how much money have you got on you?»
3) All the cash you give them goes into an envelope in a desk. No register, no paperwork. Can you say sketchy?
This place is obviously double-​billing for medi-​cal and ripping off the hard-​working Latino and Filipino communities of the excelsior. It makes me sick.

I came here because it was right in my neighborhood and I saw good reviews, however my experience here was not so great.
The staff: They seemed to be very nice and caring
Dr Lopez, I believe that was his name. I do not recall his name, why? Because he barely said a few words to me. This is my first time here, also my first time to a dentist in years. He did not ask me any questions besides if my wisdom teeth was bothering me. The cleaning of the teeth was fairly short, and I know I do not have perfect teeth. I just recently started flossing, after years of not bothering to floss. My previous dentists were way more concerned with me and asked me plenty of questions. The only words that came out of Dr. Lopez’s mouth were, does your tooth bother you? call denti-​cal for oral surgery, okay, you’re done.
On the papers I signed, I didn’t even list a prior dentist, because I had forgotten their name, its been several years. Dr. Lopez didnt ask any questions regarding when was the last time I’ve been to a dentist, if it was my first time here, do i brush or floss every day, etc.
Overall, I waited longer for him to arrive, than the actual teeth cleaning process. I will not be coming back and will be looking for another dentist elsewhere.

Last year I was looking for a new dentist, so I made an appointment for teeth cleaning with Dr. Soe of Today’s Dentistry, because of its nearby location.
First bad impression: The trash bins in both the bathroom (inside, next to receptionist) and the lobby were packed to the top with trash, and flies hovering above.
The dental equipment looks modern (chairs with an LCD screen to watch TV), but when u get close enough it looks a bit worn out.
Dr. Soe was busy with another patient, so I waited awhile. The nurse who took my x-​rays was a bit inexperienced, and had to retake a few. I saw her deleting her mistakes, but she didn’t say anything to me. Including errors, she took a total of 24 digital x-​rays (should only be 18 x-​rays).
Dr. Soe told me that the x-​rays showed 6 cavities (not true, see below). And insisted on doing the fillings on the same day, but I declined. The teeth cleaning was very light and short (too short, in my opinion). The receptionist scheduled a 2^nd appointment for the fillings (I cancelled it later).
I take good care of my teeth, so I wanted a 2^nd opinion. I went to a different dentist and didn’t tell them about the previous diagnosis, so they took their own set of x-​rays. And yes, more exposure to radiation can cause brain tumors.
Anyways, they told me the x-​rays showed only one very small cavity. Not 6, as quoted by Soe. Obviously, I’m never going back to Dr. Soe.
Note: I went to a dental school clinic. The only place I could find dentists not motivated by money. I waited months to get an appointment and get that 1 small cavity filled (the reason why it took so long to post this review). So my solution might not be convenient for other people.
Don’t let a dishonest dentist make unnecessary (just to make money) extra holes into your teeth and cap them with fillings. It might weaken your tooth’s structure, later leading to an expensive crown replacement.
Maybe patients with very bad teeth which require expensive procedures (profitable for dentist), might have a better experience with this doctor than me.
