Helping people get organized at home and in the office, one pile at a time. I specialize in helping people with clutter/​hoarding tendencies break out of old habits and bring organization to their lives, as well as create livable spaces with either existing furnishings or from scratch.

I also help with donating your old (but still usable) items to local charities and/​or taking photography of things you want to sell.

History

Established in 2012.

This business started by helping family and friends clean up/​get organized/​decorate until enough people finally said, «Why aren’t you doing this as a business?». And voila, The Umbrella Tree was born.

I’ve worked with Maurice 2x and I could not ask for a better, more motivated organizational partner. He is a good natured, sweethearted person. I plan on having him back as soon as possible. I recommend him without reservation.

The owner or the administrator who responds to emails is quite rude. First off their Craigslist ad says its $ 100 for three hours and then $ 25/​hour after that. However, when I gave him basic details about my needs, he jumped to assuming it was some huge project and replied that it would be $ 300-​$ 500. When I concluded this seemed like a scam, instead of reassuring me it wasn’t, he proceeded to insult my reading abilities and said that I didn’t read his ad and what exactly was misleading. NOT a person who cares about their image or clearly prospects. Luckily, at the same time I contacted another LEGIT business who honored the rates on her CL ad and has a more legit business acumen than MAURICE. I say keep searching, don’t give this jerk your business. As you can see, MOST of my reviews are very positive… this guy just deserves to be outed. I support respectable local businesses, this guy is a rude joke!

The glowing reviews on here made me think a Living Social deal ($ 59 for $ 75) would be really great. Sadly, the experience was unprofessional from start to finish. The owner didn’t respond to voicemails or emails to schedule a session, then responded a week late via text.
After we finally scheduled a morning session a couple weeks away, he canceled the morning of the appointment — again via text. Really unexpected behavior from a business owner, esp. with these other positive reviews. :(

He was very sensitive to things that his competition would have been aloof about and would be pressuring you to toss out. If there was a value in it, he respected that. That’s what separates the experience from being humiliating and exasperating into one that is a relief!

Before: a large hallway closet with enough clutter to cause a minor anxiety attack. Seriously, when the closet was opened for guests to see, it was prefaced with, «don’t worry, nothing is going to fall you… i hope…»
After: an impeccably organized walk-​in closet with shelf space to spare.
I consider myself a fairly neat person and never would have thought I would have hired an «organizer.» I was nervous that he would show up and want to start throwing out all my stuff. After all, you can’t have disorganized things when you have NO things. I was pleasantly surprised when Maurice showed up, on time I might add, and had an easy-​going approach as he led us through the magic show. He helped identify things that should be grouped together, things that could be donated, and things that should be rotated seasonally for accessibility.
Maurice is highly professional, extremely affordable, impressively effective, and just an all around real nice guy.

From disorganized to organized in less than two hours? Yeah right! Sounds like an info-​mercial to me… BUT WAIT, there’s more! Its legit! After easily scheduling an appointment with Maurice via email, and receiving a confirmation text I remained doubtful that anyone could fix the disorganization in my awkwardly shaped closet. To my delight, Maurice was the real version of a Mary Poppins — spit spot! He arrived on time, and got right to work organizing, prioritizing, and even working with us to get rid of items that we didn’t even know why we had them! He even offered to schedule a Goodwill pick up but the nearest location is just a few blocks away so we managed to get rid of it ourselves. I literally breathe a fresh sigh of relief when I enter my closets now, and have been wearing the shoes I couldn’t get to for months on a regular basis!
No more skeletons in our closets thanks to the awesome work by Maurice!
