The Silence of the Trans

It’s fun to walk 2 blocks to a classic theater filled (sold-​out) with drag queens and the guys from the neighborhood to see our very own Sharon Needles. She was devine– can totally deliver. The supporting cast was great– the camp was high, the set production was appropriately low, and the overall festivities were appropriate. Well done!

That’s what Sharon Needles told us to do if we liked it, so «2 stars».
I went to the very first showing as part of a friend’s day-​long birthday celebration. There were intermittent issues with mic volume and wwwWWWWUUUUUUUHHHHHWwww feedback. The Clarice character’s sound was so muffled that I made out about 1% of her lines. But who cares? The whole thing was a let-​loose, have fun, tons of laughs, safe space slice of an afternoon.
Your favorite scenes and quotes from The Silence of the Lambs were generously peppered with RuPaul’s Drag Race jokes (none of which I got, but whatev) and thrown on a big tranny /​drag slant. At least one original song popped up among great classics. Some elements reminded me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, though there were no outright connections. Loved the mannequins. Lady Bear was the cutest. They actually screened The Silence of the Lambs afterward.
Audience participation was a total plus. All in all, it reminded me of the infinite range of things that can happen at the Castro Theatre: the world of diversity already in SF’s various film festivals, the little dude from Twilight (and other famous people), gay stuff, House
, live productions, and basically anything.
The only aspect I didn’t get and learned right at the start was that, despite what the title had me expecting, the story was «tranny» instead of «trans». For all I know, some of the actors & actresses could’ve been M to F /​F to M /​etc. But the characters they portrayed seemed to be queens (which is still totally cool because I love all types). I was just thinking I’d see our Autobots & Decepticons get some prominence. #whatuptrans

This was my first Peaches Christ show and yes, I admit, I had come to see Sharon Needles. The VIP ticket was well worth it! Although I didn’t drink, you got two drink tickets (not sure what they were priced) and a program for the show plus VIP seating down front.
Peaches and the rest of the cast put on an amazing show! As a fan of Silence of the Lambs, I laughed myself silly and was amazed at how well they recreated the movie. Peaches was awesome as Trannible Lector, LOVED Lady Bear and of course Sharon as Buffalo Jill. Peppered with RuPaul Drag Race references, the crowd didn’t seem like they could get enough. The Phi Phi references had me in stitches. Kudos as well to Suppositori Spelling as Clarice! Wonderful dead on Jodi Foster!
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the show, but the production numbers (Total Eclipse of the Heart used for the final segment of the film where Clarice and Jill toy with each other in the «dark») were awesome. Sharon definitely showed off that she has more up her sleeve than anyone could have imagined. Can’t wait to see what Sharon does next!
And I must add that I am planning more Peaches Christ events to come in the future based off this one. It was fun and all the performers were awesome.
