History
Established in 1998.
The Royale is located in an historic registry building, originally a residence hotel constructed in 1916, during the era when the surrounding neighborhood was rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake and fire. More recently, what is now the bar was a corner store. The building’s owner turned that into a daytime Café in the early 1990s. In the late 1990s the nighttime operation began and the Café became a favorite neighborhood bar, serving as a virtual living room for many nearby residents.
