I hate that I love the chocolate cake here so much because other than that and one other item on the menu this place is really not that great. It’s almost as bad as Cheesecake Factory. The service here is terrible unless you get the younger guy who is normally out of uniform to help you.

If you are having a busy day shopping around Union Square and feel like having a quick bite, then this is ideal. My favourite is their turkey club sandwich, served with green leaves and a few pieces of fruit. Take a seat by the window and watch the world go by… The service is jolly quick so you can be in and out, although they never rush you. Lunch times gets busy but I have always managed to grab a window table. They do great salads and soup and turkey chilli, illy coffee and even champagne.

This place is expensive but fresh and organic items on the menu. I usually like my sandwich with salad and fresh fruits on the side. This is my go to during my lunch break… that is if I am willing to spend $ 15 to $ 20 dollars for lunch.

Service needs work — disappointing given that this is in a Nieman Marcus. Not kid friendly at all. Tomato bisque and chocolate chip cookie were awesome but not good enough to raise the rating to more than 3 stars. Service matters and being kid friendly matters a lot these days. For a spot this close to Union Square, this café needs updating to a larger space.

Pricey but for a reason! Their Asian chicken salad had me going back an entire week! And their little buns they give you are so good. I put mine into the microwave at work for 15 – 20 seconds and i eat it with butter! Not healthy but delicious and tastes freshly baked! Trust me. Their shrimp tacos are so good but are better to eat in the actual restaurant. I had it to-go for work and I swear they didn’t give me the little chips and extra things they gave me when I ate in their location. Over all really good. Staff is sometimes too helpful and will ask you the same questions. But that’s just what I like, some people really need the waitresses to keep going back to you and tending to your every need. I need space and quiet! It’s my lunch. The male managers kind of stand there all serious which doesn’t feel welcoming. The food is great and i will be going back. No complaints about the quality of the food. All delicious! Thank you to all the cooks :)

Just had a meeting lunch there and the Santa Fe Salad was pretty good with nice presentation as well. The server was very nice and quick. I would definitely come back again. Yes, some people was a bit pretentious since they are eating lunch there, but it was kind off fun to watch them.

Been here several times for a much needed shopping break. Always get acknowledged. All the sandwiches and salad are good and fresh. The cookies are even better. Love the coconut pineapple cake.

I’ve stopped by occasionally for a cookie break. They’re pretty much all good but the best one is their PB&J. Their cookies are huge, dense, and cakey, and definitely not healthy, but oh soooo good! They’re a bit pricy($ 4 ish), but worth the indulgence once in a while.

Bland food, bad service, no atmosphere. Next time I’ll just spend the extra $ 20 and eat upstairs in style.

Came here during my lunch break. Interesting crowd– They seemed to act snobby because maybe they felt they needed to act snobby since it was inside Neiman Marcus.(maybe I’m being snobby to snobs) Service: ok. nothing special. Food: Good. Had the half sandwich and soup. It was a tuna w/nut and clam chowder.

I came Ina with a mission and a plan: to eat chocolate cake. Upon arrival, I fell in line… and asked for a slice of the cake. She said sit down and they’ll serve it. 10 minutes passed and no cake. Boo. Thus, I flagged a waitress and asked for cake to arrive. After 15 minutes, it did. When I took my first bite, the check was thrown on my table. The cake is amazing… the people who work their need to be fired.

I came here right before I headed to work just because a friend told me about how good the peanutbutter and jelly cookies were. Since, I do love peanutbutter. haha. but aside from that she did mention that the cookies were $ 4.00 each and at a very large size. I underestimated the fact that they could really be THAT huge when i actually came and witnessed it formyself. It really was… I also got the cookies n cream and tiger stripe because I got so tempted. There was a good variety of selections to meet anyone’s sweet tooth needs. I decided to try the peanutbutter and jelly cookie first and it was like a a regular sandwich made into a cookie form and 10x better! I really like the atmosphere it creates inside this cute little restaurant. Aside from a very large and somewhat expensive cookie, i cannot wait to try the other flavors i got and I will definitely come back whenever I feel like indulging a little.

Not bad and inexpensive, but for the price of the egg salad sandwich, it could’ve been better. Earl Grey tea was OK, but how can you screw that up…

Really great quick eat before/post shopping. I ordered the veggie sammich which had perfectly toasted buns, gooey melted cheese atop balsamic seasoned veggies that packed good flavor. Good service(they check on you multiple times to make sure you don’t need anything) and they’re prompt w/food procurement. Prices aren’t bad. My sammich was $ 11 which included a salad and fruit bowl. My friend’s egg sammich was $ 16. They have indoor and outdoor seating.

Clean and fresh food that how can I describe it. Perfect for lunch. However, they had a great selection of desserts and coffee. I really like it. They have Friendly Crew. About the prices it is reasonable.

A little Sondheim please… Here’s to the ladies who lunch– Everybody laugh. Lounging in their caftans And planning a brunch On their own behalf. Off to the gym, Then to a fitting, Claiming they’re fat. And looking grim, ‘Cause they’ve been sitting Choosing a hat. Does anyone still wear a hat? I’ll drink to that. Let the ladies eat cake. I have no reason to shop at Neiman Marcus. None. I grew up in Dallas as a youngster, so I always associate that store with the hoity-toity society matrons who would shop nowhere else. That reputation still lingers, but the owners are smart enough to know they need to draw in other customer types who have credit cards. I assume that’s why FreshMarket was born since Jamie W. and I were lured in here by the sight of dessert in their display case. And here’s to the girls who play smart– Aren’t they a gas? Rushing to their classes In optical art, Wishing it would pass. Another long exhausting day, Another thousand dollars, A matinée, a Pinter play, Perhaps a piece of Mahler’s. I’ll drink to that. And one for Mahler! Funny thing is that the café is visible from the street. Otherwise we would have no other motivation to enter the premises. In fact, we saw the cakes and promptly sat outside in their sidewalk patio area where we wouldn’t be mistaken for shoppers. I was tempted by the $ 7 slices of cake they offered on their menu with the Pineapple Coconut particularly alluring(photo: ). Jamie decided the Tiramisu had his name on it(photo: ). And here’s to the girls who play wife– Aren’t they too much? Keeping house but clutching A copy of LIFE, Just to keep in touch. The ones who follow the rules, And meet themselves at the schools, Too busy to know that they’re fools. Aren’t they a gem? I’ll drink to them! Let’s all drink to them! The young, formally attired waiter laid our silverware and logo-emblazoned napkins like we were Nob Hill doyennes with Hermes scarves and loads of mad money in our Armani purses(photo: ). Yes, the cake was delicious and quite a treat in an otherwise Starbucks-saturated world. Well-heeled foreign tourists followed our lead and took charge of the remaining patio tables. they offer salads and sandwiches that wouldn’t look out of place at a country club luncheon. So let’s hear it for the ladies who lunch — Everybody rise! FOOD — 4 stars… let me eat cake AMBIANCE — 3 stars… self-imposed exile in the patio area, no regrets SERVICE — 3.5 stars… stiff but prompt TOTAL — 4 stars… rise! rise! rise!

Great lunch spot in Union Square for a salad or to re-fuel on a busy shopping day. Sonoma Salad: all natural chicken, romaine, candied walnuts, sliced apples, raisins, blue cheese, light balsamic vinaigrette Verdict: Perfect balance of sweet and savory. Asian All Natural Chicken Salad: napa cabbage, romaine, carrots, snow peas, cilantro, scallions, honey cilantro-lime vinaigrette, wonton strips, toasted peanuts, red chile peanut dressing Verdict: I’ve never been into dressings with peanut, but I was pleasantly surprised how this dressing didn’t have such a «peanutty» taste that I’d order it as a sole entrée next time(shared with my mom). Today’s Sampler: bowl of soup or small green salad, one half tuna pecan or nm all natural chicken salad sandwich Verdict: Split pea soup and tuna sandwich — not too heavy yet filling enough for someone who eats big portions like me. I loved how the tuna sandwich wasn’t overdone with too much mayo. Cookies: Black and white cookie and the PB&J cookies are amazing!

*3/29/2013 Fast and fresh food at Neiman price points. Though a salad could set you back by $ 14, and a glass of ice tea that one can make at home by $ 3 — the food warrants its value. Tourists and locals alike all seem to carry FreshMarket’s «MM-MMGO» bags, and it always catches my attention. It’s lunch time on a friday afternoon, I had no idea what I wanted, the clock was ticking for a limited hour, and somehow FreshMarket was not busy at all. Service was prompt — pick a seat anywhere, waive down a waiter/or waitress, and order. I ordered the Waldorf Salad — which came with fresh romaine lettuce, shredded chicken breast, dried fruits, grapes, pecans, with a creaming dressing, and served with a piece of sour dough with warm butter. Salad was great and the portion was filling! I was not the only one that ordered salad, perhaps FreshMarket has a knack for salads. I also ordered the spiced ice tea(orange juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon) — it was refreshing but needed more sugar. Will I come back here for lunch and try their pastries — of course!

I had to meet a classmate to work on an assignment and we decided to stop here before our journey. I arrived about 30 mins before her and sat and people watched. The food smelled delicious. I love how the sunlight consumes the café and bounces light from wall to wall. I ordered the chocolate cake: It was fresh, sweet and rich. I love chocolate cake. My friend ordered an iced tea. Our server was very sweet and friendly. Everyone else’s food(soups, salads and sandwiches) looked amazing. One woman’s salad was beautifully decorated with bright green avocados & grilled chicken. I wanted to help her eat it but I contained myself… this time.
