The program is college preparatory and we assume each student will continue on to the best schools and universities. We have, in 43 years, not been disappointed! We offer small class size and individualized instruction by experience, qualified and credentialed teachers. Our program includes English, mathematics, science, social science, physical education/martial arts/sports, foreign language, music and more.

History

Established in 1970.

The Discovery Center School was founded in 1970 by Patrick O’Donnell. After his death in the 1990’s, the school was run by Elizabeth O’Donnell until she made the decision to sell it. Janet Wherry purchased the school in 2004 in order to keep it alive. Ms. Wherry holds degrees in science, math and English and has a California teaching credential in all those subjects as well. She has a masters of science from the University of San Francisco and is a published writer of young adult novels. She has been teaching all grade levels for many years. In addition, she has earned honors as one of the top tutors in the nation. Graduates of DCS have continued on to the best schools and universities anywhere. It is due to the dedication of Ms. Wherry and her love of The Discovery Center School that it was not closed in 2004 and will remain open to successfully serve a wide variety of students and their families.
