Probably the most crispy and fresh fish and chips around the Bay Area. The staff is super friendly and polite. I would suggest getting the house sauce if tartar sauce is too plain for you. I thought it was a restaurant but it is a food truck type of establishment.

Listened to the reviews about making an appointment so I made one right at 530, when they open(Sunday). The ribeye steak was mouthwatering and delicious. It was so tender and the flavors were amazing. The sauce of the ribeye leaked onto the cauliflower which made it on of the most delicious cauliflower I ever had. The mashed potatoes were just average to me but it did seem to compliment the other stuff on the plate. The pork chops were seriously so good. That sauce though! It was delicious. I even dipped my steak into the pork chops sauce. I enjoyed coming here. Service was great and the atmosphere was tiny, yet doable. I would come again if I was in the area. Definitely recommend if you are in the area because this is something you don’t want to miss!

Absolutely disappointed! Ordered 3 types of fries, the fish tacos and a few large fish. After trying all the different items hubby and I were left underwhelmed. Nothing was special and if I wasn’t starving from sightseeing it all would have ended up in the trash. The kicker was when I asked hubby what he did like and he said«the tarter sauce,» lol! Save your money and go get some real food.

Now I was about 2 steps away from grabbing a couple empanadas from the Argentinean spot next door, but I heard the accent of the women working the counter. That loud British delivery brought back memories instantly. My mom is British so I spent a great deal of time in London when I was growing up. Every summer to be exact. Then there was a period where I lived there and attended school. So you better believe that fish chips were my bread and butter growing up. I’ve had the best fish and chips in the world hands down. Reference Skips Jacks in Stanmore, London, UK. I loved her energy. I wish I could remember her name. You can tell she loves what she does. This is always a good sign for my stomach or so I thought. I’ll get back to that. The smell of the fish frying had me already wanting to order a piece. The combo I tried came with shrimp and of course chips. We all ordered close to the same thing. So far I have tried a lot of «rubbish» fish and chip places and not one has it down. Usually the size of the fish is always tiny as fuck. The fish here was a descent size, but that almost did not matter because it was so good! Finally a place that has the closest resemblance(flavor profile wise) to what I grew up eating. Right amount of vinegar and salt. The chips were good too. Nice and chunky. Grabbing the shrimp was a good idea. Or so we thought… Now there was about 5 of us and we all ordered the same thing(s). By the time we got back home I noticed there were some of us that felt a little nauseous. Including me. I developed a bad stomach ache and felt sickly for a few hours. In closing I liked this place a lot. It was delicious. However I paid for it later. Next time I’m in the bay I will def try again, but I’m bringing an IV of Pepto Bismol to counter.

I can’t decide what i like better… their fish tacos(you get 2) with spicy sauce OR the fish & chips … the fish is so fresh & perfectly deep fried to perfection. wonderful staff & i had my friends dog with me & the lady inside was so kind she even brought water out for the dog, they definitely went the extra mile ! kudos to this food truck & can’t wait to be back.

Holy s**t! BEST fish & chips I’ve had by far. Of course I followed my instinct(AKA Unilocal) and it undoubtedly led me here and boy was I glad. See Mitch E.‘s review for a more detailed overview of this food truck. But man these fish and chips were AMAZING.

Fish and chips with a blood orange San Pellagrino on the side! Two huge pieces of fish with lots of fries on the bottom and if you check in on Unilocal you get the free drink for $ 10.99 including tax already. The fish was piping hot and fried perfectly, and the fries were good but not crispy. It’s a food truck with picnic tables in front between a touristy T-shirt selling booth and parking lot so you might miss it since they don’t have a huge sign or anything. At the end of the day they serve up leftovers for free to customers as extras and their shrimp was amazing. Really nice people and good food. If you’re craving fried seafood but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg check them out.

The British lady owner sounded nice and the portion was very big(combo+crazy fries). If you like British food like deep fried mars bars, baked beans and toast etc you will like this place but not everybody’s taste. Fish was fresh but tasted bad more because of the British taste rather which I believe to be one of the worst in the world(talking about fast food).

The food is okay, but the portions are generous for food near tourist attractions. One order of tacos comes with two tacos. I like the fish tacos. The fish is gigantic and the Baja sauce is delicious. The shrimp taco is similar but only comes with two shrimps. The Crazy Fries is okay but it’s a bit weird that they put raw garlic on top. The only problem I had is with the fish and chips. I think the crust of the fish is a bit smelly, although the fish is perfectly fine.

It was a drizzly Sunday, which meant Fisherman’s Wharf was deserted and the tourists had all gone into hiding, which meant I finally got to check out The Codmother! As we were eating dinner later, the BF and I shared an order of the fish and chips. 2 large pieces of fried cod with a large basket of fries for $ 11 is a steal, especially in San Francisco. The fish was soft and flaky, and the batter was delicious. My only complaint was that there may have been to much batter. GETTHEBAJASAUCE. Seriously… for me this made the meal. Cilantro, jalapeño, swirled over flaky fish. You can’t go wrong!

HANDSDOWNTHEBESTFISHANDCHIPS I’VEHADSOFAR! Located in a truck stationed by fisherman’s wharf, Codmother is definitely a spot worth checking out if you want freshly made fish and chips on the spot. The workers are all extremely friendly, accommodating, and generous! That made the entire experience in the coldness of SF so much better. After the meal when we asked for a box, they asked us if we needed any extra sauces of all the sauces they offer before we even have asked. I ordered the junior fish and chips, which had 2 pieces of fish that were just a tiny bit smaller than the sizes of the original fish and chips. But it was more than enough food! I still had fries leftover. The fish is made right after you order it, so they usually say it’ll take 8 minutes. Unlike many other places, Codmother’s fish isn’t 90% batter. You can actually taste the fish inside and see how flakey it is. My friend and I both upgraded our fries to the«baja fries» for just a few dollars more, which was a good decision as well! Although more garlic and baja sauce on the fries would’ve been good. Bomb fish and chips place to try out in the San Francisco area! Just wish they had indoor seating.

I’m very skeptical to find good food by Fisherman Wharf considering all the tourist traps. However, I think I might have found a winner! A little truck situated in the corner of Jones/Beach, I would have never found this place if it wasn’t for Unilocal. The place reminds me of a much smaller Soma Street park. It’s essentially a food truck and you order right up at the truck window The workers are friendly and try to get to know you. They seem to be very big on customer service! There’s bench seating within their«space» so it’s definitely good for a small group of people. We ordered two things on the menu: the Shrimp and Chips($ 12) and the Fish, Shrimp, and Chips Combo(which was $ 14). I have to say, the portions are pretty good(7 plump shrimps) and then latter order had 4 Shrimp and quite a large strip of cod, both orders came with fries(which you could also substitute with Garlic but we didn’t). From a wait standpoint, the food comes out relatively fast(I would say about 5 – 7 minutes). I would say you are getting a pretty good meal for the price you pay. Overall I was very satisfied but realized after leaving we didn’t even try their fried oreo. More reason to make another visit to this joint! The only challenge is finding parking. It’s definitely not easy to find parking around this area. Probably best to take public transit/walk if you’re close enough to this spot. Definitely a must try if you’re in the area.

Just a tiny walking distance from the main fisherman’s wharf, this permanent food truck has pretty good fish and chips! You walk up and order and then find a seat and wait for your number to be called. There was plenty of outdoor seating when we went as service was fast and people just eat and go. We got the junior fish and chip size which is one big piece of fried fish and a side of French fries. The fried fish tasted fresh and meaty. I was surprised of the portion! The fries were good but not much to write about. Go get that fish!

The Codmother has been on my bookmark list for over 2 years now. Just never got a chance to check it out until this past trip to SF. We got there 20 mins before closing but service was still friendly and welcoming. The four of us each ordered our own plates and got our food within 10 mins. Extra points for speed and service. Fish & Chips($ 10.99): Two pieces of fish and a handful of thick cut fries. — The fish wasn’t as moist as what one would expect when it comes to cod or pollack. This reminds me more of Mahi Mahi. What we got was a more opaque and white drier fish, instead of the moist, soft flakey texture of cod. Junior Fish & Chips($ 8.99): This was my order. I’m glad I ordered the kiddie size because I wasn’t impressed with the greasy fish or soggy fries… so having more would’ve been wasteful. Shrimps & Chips($ 11.99): Best thing on the menu. The shrimps were nice and plump and the crispiness was fantastic. I could’ve devoured 2 orders of this. Combo(fish, shrimps & chips, $ 13.99): My homeboy Salah(a real talented dude. Check him out here ) loved his plate of food. He loved the fried shrimp more than his fish too. We also got the much raved about Baja Sauce for $ 0.75: The 4 of us didn’t think it was anything special. My friend said it reminded him of Taco Bell’s gordita sauce, lol. Everyone agreed that the tartar sauce and malt vinegar tasted way better with our meal. Maybe it was an off day, maybe it’s because we got there late, but I didn’t get what everyone raved about. The best fish & chips I’ve had yet is still from Kelly O’Neils. Flakey, moist and just the most perfect batter. Sorry.

This place is good but not THAT good. I picked Codmother for lunch because I was craving fish and chips and didn’t want to spend $ 20+ on it. In case you didn’t know — it’s a food truck with benches outside. The owner is British and she is super nice, very accommodating. Definitely respect that. Crazy fries — They are smothered in sauce and minced canned garlic. Yes, I said CANNED garlic. Really? I was pretty disappointed with the crazy fries. I found myself adding salt to them because they had no flavor. The fries were soggy and not in the least bit crispy, the sauce lacked flavor and was just further dampened the soggy fries and the garlic — well you already know about that… Fried fish — Was good but nothing spectacular. I liked that there were 2 big pieces of fish and it was crispy. I did appreciate the fact that they allowed me to upgrade the chips in my fish and chips to crazy fries AND separated the two into 2 different baskets. I wouldn’t have wanted the crazy sauce to make the fish soggy. Though it was under my expectations, I’m willing to go back and try some of their other items like the fish tacos.

OMG. Perfection. Cute little stationary truck that is frying up all the fish and chips you could ever need and want. Codmother has wonderfully friendly girls working the truck! They will make recommendations, ask if you want extra tarter sauce and ensure that you walk about HAPPY and FULL. I really really loved everything about this cute little joint. There is even a good amount of seating for a stationary truck. Some benches have large umbrellas as well. We ordered 1 regular sized fish and chips and 1 junior. We could have just split the regular sized order! The Junior was JUST enough for me and I was super hungry! The fish had lots of flavor and the chips were soo addicting, and I am not usually a big fan of thicker fries. Lunch was cheap!!! I think the regular size was 10.99 and the junior, 8.99. For the size of fish, it was a fantastic deal!!! I will be back.

I’ve had Codmother in my bookmarks for who knows how long! Unfortunately, I never seem to be in touristy areas, so I’ve never had the chance to go. When Rodney H offered to take me for my birthday, I jumped at the chance! It was Saturday, September 12th around 1:15pm and we dropped by for lunch. It was a gloomy day, so it wasn’t too difficult to find a table. I snagged one when I saw a couple leave. The area is small, but they have about 10 tables for their patrons. Since we were doing a food crawl of sorts(and this was our first stop), we decided to split the Fish and chips($ 10.99). The basket comes with two large fish strips and a good amount of fries. Perfect for two as a snack! The fish was moist, tender and crispy. Great with just malt vinegar or the tartar sauce they provide. I thought the chips were good, but not as outstanding as the fish. The fries were crispy, but couldn’t compare to how tasty the fish was. If you are looking for tasty fried cod, this is the place! Even though the chips were alright, the delicious fish made up for it!

First time trying this after being bookmarked for so long! The place is outdoors, kind of like a food truck, with plenty of seats and tables outside. Overall, good food and big portions, but not amazing, like the almost 5 star reviews led me to anticipate. I ordered: Fish and chips combo– around $ 11 for HUGE portions. Pictures are deceiving, those two pieces of fish are big. I had to take almost half my meal to go. Overall, the fish and the sauce that it comes with is good, but not out of this world. The fries were not that great when my friends and I tried it either.

First time trying fish and chips ever ever in my life! Was excited to try this place considering the high reviews! Please note that the place is a food truck with outdoor sitting, so I brought my dog. My friends and I ordered the fish and chips for $ 11 something. And they gave us 2 huge pieces and french fries. We all did not like the french fries, it was dry, and not fresh. The fish was OK, not mind-blowing like what I have hoped for… Tasted kinda bland, I had to sprinkle a lot of salt and tartar sauce to add flavor. Will come back only because the price is good and the portion is huge.

Geschmacklich und vom Personal her: 4⁄5 !
