Thankfully this place officially closes on December 31st. Worst place in San Francisco, the staff is a bunch of rude buffoons, the food is rancid. don’t bother and kiss them goodbye. McDonald’s would be a better choice.

This place is being out bid by a high end restaurant and will no longer be. For this reason, assuming they’re still open, I say go and have a few at this fine establishment; you will find many, soon to be unemployed, employees to be very generous with the pour if you get what I’m saying. A shot of jamo = half a cup, for example. =) Hammer time

Meh. I ordered the salmon sandwich and fries. Nothing really jumped out in terms of taste or décor. Beingin the financial district I expect more out of restaurant/bar. It definitely had a very old 80’s feel to it. Service was so-so. I use a lot of napkins and I had to ask for additional napkins a the end of my meal. Just something I expect from a server, is to come over and ask if we needed anything else or notice it. Maybe I’m being picky but if the food and atmosphere is very mediocre I expect really great service. Even the host who seated me and my uncle, who I havnt seen for 20 years, sounded like she was just repeating herself with today’s special with no enthusiasm. If I come back it’ll be for the beer and not to sit in and have a meal. Great location that they should capitalize and fully remodel.

Remember you first trip to Applebees? Was, It enjoyable. It was this is a commerical chain I believe but in the Idea that it was anything like The London style food and drinks.(Its pretty close) I’ve been to London, and truthfully, It doesn’t «Wow» me. The same with this place. Its pretty good when you’re hungry, the Sheperd’s pie, can barely bring the flock around. I was a little upset, I might give this place a try again… but I will say this, A Long piece of hair was in and or around my Food. Thus, the disgruntled service. Sorry, Guys. The beer was good and the french onion soup!

Came here on a late Sunday night. No wait, but there were people enjoying the bar. I ordered two things — Ale and Onion soup and Long Beach Fish Tacos. The soup was like French Onion soup. Oddly enough, even with the cheese, I didn’t seem to get much flavor out of it. I would pass on this next time. The fish tacos came out presented very well and was larger than I expected. You get three tacos along with some chips and salsa. The tortillas could have been a bit warmer /hotter but I thought it tasted very good. Service was great and very friendly. Soup came out quickly. Entrée took a little bit longer. Got my drinks refilled promptly as well.

This is a chain bar with locations in Boston and Winnipeg and various other cities. This place is decorated on the edge of public house clique. The food is okay — typical bar hash. The nice part of this bar is that it’s nice and big and we came in with a fairly large group and found a handful of tables downstairs that could accommodate our huge drunken group. So, yay for quick bar service and open tables on a Friday night.

Didn’t come here expecting anything. Glad I set my bar low, because it could only go up from here, right? Cramped booths, spotty service, awful food. The menu is so spotty and disjointed, it’s hard to follow the train of thought as to why some of the menu items even exist. I mean, there’s a Chicken Tikka Masala poutine. Why? Outside of coming here for a pint, you’re completely out of luck.

This was a great place for happy hour for our group of 10+ people. Management was extremely accommodating finding us space and making it an easy experience splitting the tab. With very little notice, the manager set up a private space for us in the basement, and put up a sign upstairs so our guests knew where to go. We will make this our go-to spot from now on!

Checked out elephant and castle expecting a chain/hotel bar experience. I was pleasantly surprised. The service was fantastic. In particular, the bartender Tara was fantastic. Great conversation and nothing but the best hospitality. This establishment is quite lucky to have her given all the competition in SF. The food was pretty damn good too. Highly recommend the E & C.

A bit on the pricy side, but that’s to be expected for the neighborhood. What was not expected was it was relatively quiet on a Friday afternoon. Good selection on the beers on tap and a pretty decent selection on the lunch menu. I’ve been scouring around for a decent place to find a pint’s worth of peace during the workday. I don’t mind paying a little bit more than usual if it’s a nice environment like this place is.

Came here after work for happy hour on a Thursday with friends and was surprised how quiet it was! Had myself a beer on tap and the service was alright. The server was attentive when we were able to get her attention and she looked quite tired /annoyed. Perhaps a long day? Either way, I felt like she was giving us a little attitude. Not sure if I would come here again bc the ambience is a bit quiet and the crowd(when there is one) is geared towards older people. Or maybe I went during an off-day? We left around prime dinner hours and still… not many people.

I have given this place a few more tries and I’ve had a totally different experience. Ironically enough the bartender I’ve dealt with at lunch is awesome. I stopped the manager to compliment her. * best garden burger I’ve EVER had, they make it themselves *excellent French onion soup *Asian salad is very good *good place to watch games

This place can get busy during happy hour which can be a down fall or a positive depending on why you are going. Large groups are great here. Im not a huge fan of the drink menu and sometimes the table service can lack but that could have been due to the amount of people there. I would come back just for a busy pub experience with coworkers. All in all nothing wrong with this place but nothing amazing either.

Second time here. Once for breakfast and this time for lunch. I got the bacon wrapped meatloaf and it was so good. Makes me want to go back and get more for dinner. If you get a chance, go here and try it.

We stayed the the La Meridian, so it was very convenient that Elephant and Castle was right across the street. I was kinda skeptical because of the mixed reviews and the concierge didn’t mention them… But they had 3 stars and their health score was 100/100, so we said what the hell… Plus we were all wearing jeans and hoodies so, we couldn’t go try Tadich Grill. Sounds casual but it was pretty fancy inside. The food was delicious. We started out with some Truffle Parmesan chips. The size was good for two people, not three, or to be shared with my mom and sister… Because they both can put some food away. My sister ordered the fish and chips, looked good, my mom ordered the fish tacos, which also look good, and I ordered the salmon club, it looked good as well. The meals were 13.50 each. Which is pretty decent for what we got. The bill was $ 142 but we had 11 drinks. The drinks were worth the 7⁄8 bucks, because they were strong! The bathrooms were downstairs, which isn’t a good thing if you’ve been drinking. But we made it down. Coming up was a challenge. The waitress was very nice and attentive. We were loud and obnoxious by the end of the night, but it is an Irish pub…

Was not expecting much from Elephant & Castle since it looks like your typical pub/restaurant. An old coworker & I came here for lunch. I was actually quite impressed with their menu as there were a lot of attractive sounding lunch options. They also had a variety of poutines and mixed some Indian flair in a few dishes. He went with the veggie burger and I went with the jalapeño mac n cheese and added bacon for an additional charge. The mac n cheese packed enough heat from the jalapeño and everything is better with bacon of course! It was cheesy enough without being too rich and I loved the bread crumb topping. It was also a good portion and I had leftovers to take home. Service was fine and they started picking up as the lunch hour progressed. 3.5 rounded up, wouldn’t mind coming back for a lunch or happy hour. E&C you may have given me faith in pub food.

This review is just so that Canadians can read about the«poutine». As expected, the cheese is not real cheese curds. The pieces don’t squeak, are a little too small, and the flavor is a little off. That said, the fries and gravy are the correct types for poutine, and they’re not stingy with any of the ingredients. Overall, a really good imitation. Kinda satisfies the craving, if it’s been a really long time since you’ve been home and had poutine.

Corporate Bar/Restaurant with the veneer of an English Pub. The beer selection was fair, but the prices were high and the staff couldn’t be bothered. The«pretzels» tasted deep fried and hit your stomach like a ton of bricks. Bottom line — not my style. Meh.

I’m not sure what happened, but the last two times I’ve been here were just disappointing(both in the month of November 2013). Service was just extremely slow. This was during lunch time on a weekday. Being in the Embarcadero, they should really know better. It took a good 15 minutes before our server came to take our orders. Another 15 – 20 minutes for our food to arrive. To top it all off, every single person’s dish(there were 6 of us) was was cold! That is just unacceptable. Their happy hour may be decent, but lunch was a disappointment. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon.
