The Box SF was voted best small venue in the Bay Area by SF Weekly Readers! We are a private event space for all types of events including, weddings, parties, corporate events, retail events, gaming events, receptions, wine tasting and food parings, fashion, film shoots, food tastings, sit down dinners at our spectacular tables made from 335 year-​old gate doors from China!

We are often booked by some of America’s largest corporations and event planners wanting a a unique venue for their meeting or event. We do day and evening events 7 days a week, 365 days a year!

Non-​profit events and artist groups are always welcome and it is a wonderful place for your next meet-​up or networking event. The facility is a beautifully creative alternative to typical noisy nightclubs, expensive and bland hotel spaces, and not-​so-​creative meeting spaces. We have 30 caterers, full bar packages, free wireless and a beautiful historic space filled with antiques and two rooms for a wide variety of staging options. We can fully produce your event and have a full in-​house event production company called Stage 24 Productions that also produces at venues around San Francisco and across the US!

History

Established in 2000.

The Box SF brings people and ideas together in a new and unique way.

The business was started because most event spaces are either bland and boring or they are so crazy expensive that people were forced to meet in noisy bars or nightclubs with huge bar minimums.

Musical Artists wanted a chill place to play, Artists wanted a non-​gallery space to hang, business people wanted out of the typical hotel meeting space with bad carpet and no windows. Meet-​up groups wanted a socially inviting but un-​cramped professional space, and speakers wanted an alternative beautiful space to hold day time events that could continue into a evening reception.

At The Box SF like to collaborate to not only allow you to enjoy this unique historic space but to feel welcome and a part of our family of networkers. We want to help you do better while you help those around you do better. It’s all about relationship and collaboration here at The Box SF!

Mark E. Sackett has been producing events, concerts, films, music advertising and brand campaigns for over 30 years. His award-​winning advertising, marketing, design and branding agency Reflectur, his other companies including Stage 24 Productions is event planning company, his film studio Articulation Films, record label Republic of Sound, Circa Props, The Etling Press, Target Paper, as well as his motivational speaking company Brainfood Creative Programs are all housed at The Box SF in this beautifully historic building that once held the printing presses for the SF Examiner!

Mark and his business partner Gretchen are passionate about San Francisco about the non-​profits they serve and about the opportunity of collaborating with all types of individuals, non-​profits and businesses to create and hold unique types of events for the people of the bay area.

We rented The BOX SF for our small (~40 person) wedding in October 2015 and had a great time overall. We loved the aesthetic of the venue, including the awesome long dining table and wooden interiors. On the day of our wedding, everything went very smoothly, they contracted a security guard, set up chairs, and did all the other preparations we had planned. It was a great, intimate place to get married, and many of our guests agreed!
Originally we worked with a very capable event planner at the venue, who helped us get the planning process started and was very helpful. A few months before the wedding that employee left, though, and in the remaining months we had a few minor logistical issues as we worked with two successive replacements. Our billing was quite confusing because of the quote including items from third-​party vendors like caterers, who also sent us bills directly and took several phone calls to sort out. On our wedding day, only the dining room had «twinkle» lights, not the main ceremony room, and although The BOX did refund our payment for that oversight we wished we could have had those! And although it was nice to have the venue owner on-​site that day, he loitered around the wedding party’s «staging area» in the hectic minutes before the ceremony, at a time we would have preferred some privacy with family only.
These are some areas for improvement, but our wedding day was still amazing and we still enjoyed the venue quite a bit.

The California Autism Foundation held its 31st Annual Fundraising Gala at The Box SF on October 17, 2014. It is a beautiful event space that needs essentially no additional decorations except linens, centerpieces, and some extra furniture (depending on your event). Service was excellent from the owner (Mark Sackett is awesome!), to the event managers (thanks Courtney and Danielle!), to the bartenders and other staff… helpful, professional and friendly! The ambiance is perfect for a nonprofit fundraiser, business luncheon, private party, or just about anything else. The rooms are gorgeous and the table in the Gate room is amazing! Street parking is available, parking garages are nearby, or contract with a valet service and guests can walk right in. I have nothing but positive things to say about The Box SF!

We had our wedding at The Box SF two weeks ago, and it was simply an amazing venue. My best description of the site is that it’s a canvas for a creative team to paint the perfect event backdrop onto; the space is very flexible and with the right vision, I believe you could make it into any kind of space you wanted. We had a smaller, intimate wedding, and the flow of the ceremony & reception fit in perfectly with the space: we had the ceremony in the main room, dinner in the separate space w/​the awesome table, then moved back into the main space for drinks and dancing. Pictures were all taken on site (which we just got to see this weekend!), and we loved the local color that we got from our outdoor pictures, and the lighting inside was also great for the inside shots.
Humble, intimate & classy. That’s the 3 adjectives that I’d use for this amazing space! Can’t recommend it more highly!

This is a great space for an event! Classy and modern with well thought out interior design. Most importantly, the service is wonderful. The staff is professional and friendly, and they really make all guests feel welcome. The Box is separated into an open area that fits about 150 people and a side room that can seat 40 – 50 people. Overall it’s just a super flexible space that can be crafted to your event tastes. Oh and did I mention the owner of The Box? Mark Sackett is a cool guy! Totally reflected in this entire venue.

Came here for an event and the space was amazing! Lovely understated elegance. Rustic modern, modern rustic? I don’t know how they were able to combine the two, but they did.
Convenient location between civic center and Powell Bart stations (closer to civic center). Entrance is very unassuming. You could miss it if you blinked. Staff was very friendly and courteous, helping to make the event a success!
Street parking available and free at night since its SoMa. Not too far from the freeway too which is great for if you’re driving from out of town.

Yep, I have to give it 5 stars. A great event space in the SOMA district of San Francisco.
The event space is on the second floor of a building on Howard. When I first saw the building and stairs, I didn’t think too much of it. But once I climbed the stairs and saw the space, I was very pleased. It’s a classy and tastefully done up space.
It’s probably a good space for perhaps 120 or so people — and that’s giving space for food and a small bar. Anything over 150 people would get a bit crowded.
The meeting room is also quite impressive with a very large table that seats probably close to 40 people. So if you’re looking to have a sit down dinner at an event space in SOMA, this can be the space for you.
I’m always pleased to go to The Box SF for an event.

went here today for the Nom Nom Paleo book signing. its a nice little venue located in the SOMA area. It’s got a big open floor plan but then also a decent sized room for meetings. the place has a modern yet rustic feel that gives a person various opportunities to decorate and change to their liking. It might not be in the best area of soma but once you’re inside you have to walk upstairs and it opens up to a nice space.

The Box. Oh, The Box! Beginning with the understated and ULTRA HIPSTER simplistic metal BOX sticking out of the building above your door. I love it! So clever! It’s like Where’s Waldo on Howard.
While I stood outside the doorsteps I just KNEW that when the door finally opened it was going to OOZE awesomeness.
…The hardwood staircase up to the loft with just enough lighting to set the mood as you make your entrance.
… The GIGANTIC (reclaimed wood?) Board Room table lined with gorgeous chairs in a room filled with natural light from the stunning city of San Francisco.
… The décor is very rustic and hipster chic. The track lighting along the beams above offer the option to customize your lighting. So many windows and the space is wide open which gives you so much freedom to work with the dreams for your event. **Just add music and flowers and VOILA!
… The owner and staff are exceptional! I had the chance to have several encounters with them while I was there for a networking event. You can tell that they genuinely care about your experience in that space and will go the extra mile to ensure you have a successful event.
… PARKING is a BREEZE! oh yes. I said it! When can you say that about a venue in SF if it isn’t a hotel or restaurant with Valet? never. The space is just a couple blocks from Moscone and just far enough away from the hustle & bustle to offer up an obscene amount of metered parking and a $ 10 Daily lot only a block away! It’s FABULOUS!
Book it & Enjoy!
Oh! One more thing… I should mention that there is a tiny corner chipped off one of my 5 stars for the fact that the doors are locked before the event starts and therefore creates a little panic when you realize you are in an oddly lonely and slightly sketchy area with nowhere local to have a drink and wait with exception of the market on the corner.
Luckily the owner of the cute little shop was there and more than fabulously willing to let me loiter while I enjoyed a bottled Iced Tea… But that’s another review! =)

Holiday party or small intimate wedding… you can’t go wrong with The Box SF. Danielle is super duper easy to work with. When planning a holiday party for the last company I worked with, we definitely considered The Box SF but unfortunately they didn’t have the date we needed.
If you are looking for Pinterest worthy pictures then book your next event at The Box SF! This place screams black lanterns, mason jars and a live band. (and yes you can so steal my treatment ideas, there are more where they came from=)

very nice location, came here for the Jose Cuervo Tradicional The Mural Project. Really enjoyed the party, The BOX is a nice place. My only negative was it gets HOT in there, i almost passed out. i would come back to enjoy any parties or festivities here. Thanks Jose Cuervo for the great night…

Not only an amazing venue, but amazing people to work with! :) The BOX SF is an absolutely breathtaking venue. As an event planner, we at LUX Premier Events, work in conjunction with a bunch of different cool venues. The BOX SF is great for a number of reasons:
1) An amazing, professional staff: The staff at BOX SF is rockin’! They are professional, respond to emails promptly, and are great at fielding all the possible questions our clients have! Michaela & Dani are rockstars & the bar stafff, Kelly & John were awesome as well.
2) The venue itself is breathtaking: The venue itself needs little decorations. The amazing wood floors, gorgeous long barn door tables, and twinkle lights are enough ambiance to be both professional and intimate.
3) Easy to find parking & easy to access!
One of absolute favorite venues to work with! I highly recommend them for anyone, from weddings to corporate and business events!

My daughter had her wedding and reception last Saturday 7÷14÷2012 at The Box SF. Everything was perfect. The bridal party rode up in the freight elevator that was hidden from view by a curtain so we had a moment to line everyone up for the grand entrance. After the ceremony the big room magicly changed into a dance floor. We used the beautiful huge antique table to serve the finger food and there was plenty of room to sit and chat while eating. The view, the décor and the general sense of the space was excellent.
The event coordinator Dani helped make everything go smoothly. She is wonderful.

One of my good friends asked me to help her with her wedding reception. I found BoxSF and it was a done deal. Alex and Michaela were great to work with from day 1. Given that I am in the events industry, I have certain expectations, and theBoxSF met all of them. quickly response time and true friendly customer service. On the day of Micheala was willing to jump in and help out.
We easily fit a DJ table, 8 cocktail tables, and 4 standing cocktail tables in the main room with about 65 people. We were expecting 85 and hade the room with the long table available but no one ended up in there.
The BoxSF has a list of recommend caterers but you are free to use who you want and they have a prep kitchen with an oven. They have an exclusive deal on the beverage service and that has to go through the BoxSF.

We hosted an event hear with Music Artist Common with KMEL. This was my first time seeing this space and was pleasantly surprised by the simple décor and how they have been able to keep some of the original charm of the building. Good venue for a small party of healthy, able bodied adults who will take turns talking. After one hour in the venue, I couldn’t hear the person next to me and I was loosing my voice from yelling.
Not a good venue for anyone who cannot manage a very step set of stairs, or for large events where people will want to talk and mingle.
Let’s start with the plus side first:
Well done minimalist décor
Easy to clean concrete floors
Access to stove & refrigerator
Second floor converted loft feeling with windows for air (but no view really)
Large rectangular table with seating for about 20+
Clean bathrooms, 2 of them. Large for wheel chair access but don’t remember if they have hand railings.
On the negative side:
Very steep flight of stairs (2 sets)
No handicap access. I did ask about it and she said freight elevator in back alley but only for caterers use and she was unwilling to show it to me.
Parking on street in rough neighborhood (get their early and you can park in front like I did)
Awful acoustics with concrete floor, open ceiling and nothing to soften the sound.
The sound could probably be fixed by adding a lot of baffling in the ceiling and/​or padding the walls.
Owners could also publish the use of the freight elevator IF it has close parking in the back. If I were with children, elderly, or disabled I’d stay clear of The Box.

We live in San Francisco and were dead set on showing our city off to our wedding guests (many from out of town). That said, we needed a place to have a wedding in San Francisco. Easier said, than done. For anyone who has tried to book a reception space in the city, you’re familiar with standard wedding markups, competitive scheduling, and restrictions on vendors and catering options at venues you might actually like.
We needed to stick to a budget and, feeling defeated, we finally decided to Google «cheap wedding venue San Francisco.» Thankfully, The Box SF was the first result (organic, not paid). When we saw the venue space and met with Alex, we were excited. We got a deal and the venue was far from «cheap» feeling. We wrote a check for the deposit the next day. We’re so glad we did, as our guests had a fabulous time and loved the uniqueness of the space.
The venue doesn’t need much decoration, but Alex allowed us to personalize the space for the event and it looked amazing. The space is intimate and perfect for 80 – 100 people. The best part of their approach, other than being laid-​back, is their openness to working with vendors to make events happen; there was no pre-​set list of «approved» vendors limiting our ability to achieve our vision and aesthetic for the event.
Also, they run their own bar service and they worked with us to provide a cost-​effective, premium bar (beers: Anchor Small Beer, Anchor Steam, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Fuller’s ESB, Trumer Pils, Deschutes Black Butte Porter — awesome).
We would LOVE to have another event to justify renting The Box SF again… maybe New Year’s for 70 of our friends?
