Ted & Al’s Towing Service

Noël just saved the day — replaced my battery but first did a check up on starter/​alternator. Really put me at ease and was awesome to talk with.

No choice in selection with AAA roadside assistance. First driver was beyond rude and not trustworthy so I canceled the service. He could not answer the simplest questions when it came to the protection of the car without being insulting nor condescending. To be asked how many years experience I had with towing was very disappointing and Strange!
2^nd driver from the SAME/​Ted and Als towing was able to provide the courteous service that you need when you’re car is in trouble. Only two stars for the overall experience but an A+ to Marco!!! He even apologized foe the first driver.
This rating is based on the lack of explanation and patience the first driver provided. I thought to myself how my Mother would feel if he treated her like that while she needed help worh her car … scary!!!

Awesome and extremely fast! Our car had a flat tire due to a nail, and we used AAA roadside assistance.
They estimated the tow truck would be here at 11:53AM, but we were done by 11:50! The friendly technician added air and told us the nearest tire station. Hopefully we won’t have any problems soon, but if we do, we’ll know who to call :)

I had an accident last Sunday and the police called them to have my car towed but I have nowhere to put my car since I live across the bridge and only have an underground parking spot. The driver suggest that they can house the car and have their mechanic to check and see if they can buy it or, if I want, sell its parts. So he store it and the next day when I went into their office the receptionist says that they don’t buy damaged cars and that I have to pay for the storage fee, but she suggest that they can dispose the car for me at no charge just hand them over my car title. (BTW the car is drivable but have major smash on headlights, taillights and bumper part). To make the story short I contacted someone who can buy my car but I have to store it to their garage for 2 more days (x$ 70/​day storage fee).

Have to give a truly great commendation to Lino. My battery died while I was parked partially blocking someone’s driveway. Worse I had to drive two separate family members to appointments within the hour!
I am a AAA service member so that was who I called. The really nice rep. took down my pleas of having the service people show up asap since I was in two precarious positions. They even set me up to receive text updates which I appreciated. The text message stated that service would arrive in 17 minutes, and it was true. Lino showed up to my great relief. He was so friendly, helpful, and reassuring. To have such a person show up when one is in distress is beyond words.
The battery was corroded, Lino cleaned it all up which was so appreciated. The battery replacement was not in his truck so he called for back up to drive over with the correct battery. This was accomplished within a 20 minute period.
Lino installed and checked the battery for performance. All went well, and I was able to take my family members to their appointments with a bit of time to spare even.
I cannot express how thankful I am to the wonderful service I received from Lino and his colleagues. Grateful that AAA contracts with them.

Called AAA with a totally flat (like off the rim flat) tire on my Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep was parked on the side of an extremely steep hill, pointing downwards, and I didn’t have the nerve to jack the car up to change the tire myself.
AAA dispatched Ted & Al’s and the guy who showed up sort of scratched his head at the scene and advised that he might not be able to fix it where it was, but then figured out a way to secure the front of the car with his lift and quickly change the tire for me.
Showed up right on schedule, was not especially talkative, but got the job done.

These guys ROCK!!! I have dealt with them a few times and each time they were there so fast (within 20 min.) also, nice, helpful and considerate. I have had the pleasure of Marco towing my motorcycle 2 times and each time he always made sure that the security and safety of my bike came first. I can’t recommend them enough. Marco has gone above and beyond to make sure my bike would be taken care of.
my ignition was not work and the wheel was locked in position an wouldn’t move. Marco actually lifted the front 400 – 500 lb bike into the lift. AMAZING!!!

I called them, within 30 minutes my car was unstuck and I was on my way with a smile.

My car broke down late in the evening in northern San Francisco, near the Presidio. I had front brake rotor issues and couldn’t risk driving on it further. I called AAA (I’m a member) and they sent Ted & Al’s.
– Driver («Alex») clearly didn’t care about doing a good job. He wanted to tow my car with the front end on the road, even though that would probably have caused a lot of additional damage. If I hadn’t argued with him, I’m sure that’s what would have happened.
– Driver was approximately 40 minutes late, and completely unapologetic for making us wait.
– Driver was unfriendly and disinterested. It was clear from his attitude that he would’ve been fine just leaving me broken down on the road, if he could get away with it.
I would never voluntarily be towed by this company. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Got a jump from Frenchie, he was super knowledgeable and friendly, even dealing with my dad who was being a jerk lol

I realize that this company employs more than 2 people. I must not have dealt with the ones where reviewers gave them five stars.
The dispatcher was a notch less than rude, but definitely unfriendly. The driver was lazy, unprofessional, unhelpful, condescending and did everything he could to not assist. I even had to ask him if he was going to help push the car before he put his hands on it. Why he wanted us to try pushing when he had a winch on the truck is beyond me. He even made up a story that he couldn’t tow my car because he believed it wasn’t registered when I had the plate, registration, and sticker with me. He kept repeating it as if saying it more would make it true and relieve him from having to help. He also said that my service would take too long and he had a lot of other calls to get to.
I shooed him away. I’ve learned that If things start out bad in situations like this they usually end bad, and it’s better to move on as quickly as possible.
AAA dispatched this company. I called back and asked AAA if they could send another company, but they said it was just this company for the area. So I searched Unilocal and found California Towing. I spoke to George. He was the exact opposite of Ted and Al’s Towing. He did more than a great job, and he did it with class, professionalism, and skill.
If stuck in the area again I’ll definitely pay for service from California Towing rather than get free service from Ted and Al’s.
This is my first one star review. But in my opinion, my terrible experience demands it.

Excellent service. Would recommend it to anyone in need. Prompt, as well as knowledgeable.

I just called AAA and had my tire changed by my new favorite person ever! He showed up in maybe 10 mins max instead of the 35 minute wait time, changed my tire in literal seconds AND kept me entertained. Thank you!

Nice that they have AAA contract so probably could care less about the terrible service they provide. Was told by AAA they would be out in ½ hour probably sooner. 45 mins later nothing! And when I called to inquire was told it would be at least another 30 minutes.
I HAD TO CALL! No one could call me to let me know about a delay. So disrespectful if other peoples time. Next time I will insist AAA use someone else for my needs. Too bad AAA still uses them.
It’s now been 2 hours and still waiting for these guys! Unbelievable! Oh in the mean time I’ve received two automated calls from AAA about 20 minutes apart saying the truck should be here in 20 to 30 minutes!!! Seriously? And why the hell can’t AAA just reassign without getting an ok from them???

I’ve had 3 experiences with Ted & Al’s and all were great. Three times for towing, once with battery replacement — they mechanic had to go back to the shop to get the right battery, but the whole thing was taken care of in less than an hour, and all in my garage. Every time I’ve used Ted & Al I’ve been happy with the service — they are always fast, efficient and go out of their way to be helpful. On one service call, my Miata had broken down, smoking from the passenger foot well. After towing it to the shop, the owner noticed I’d left the passenger side window open, and it had rained in just enough to douse the electronics seated below the floorboards. He let the car drain and it was good as new, no repair needed, and no charge!

I called AAA roadside to request a new car battery. They sent Ted and Als towing to help me out. Ted and Als arrived earlier than the time I was given by AAA! The guy who helped me out was named Alvaro, super chill and helpful. He cleaned the corrosion that was on my battery and next thing I know my car turned on with no problem. He mentioned battery cleaning should be a priority because my battery still had 75% functionality! All he did was clean it. He was super helpful and I learned a few tips as well! Good service, very courteous and knowledgeable.

These people regularly and repeatedly park their trucks illegally right in the middle of the bike lane, even during rush hour, making this block of one of the key bike routes in the city extraordinarily dangerous. The most inconsiderate neighbors, a bad apple in the community. Please take your business elsewhere.

Awful service, they tried to overcharge me, removed the charge and then added it back.
They also use the bike lanes as their personal parking lot, forcing the city to get involved. Scummy.

Repeatedly illegally parks their tow trucks in the Fell St bike lane despite requests from the SF bike coalition.
I will be calling AAA to cancel my service.

Ted & Al’s tow trucks VERY regularly block the bike lane along Fell Street in front of their shop. This is illegal and forces cyclists to veer near or into a lane of fast moving car traffic.
Ted & Al’s Towing Service drivers endanger the lives of San Francisco citizens every single day. Please look elsewhere for your towing needs.
