I love this place. The people are friendly, and the instructors are great.

Before I even came into town I googled any gay country western bars. This was the one that came up. It was a bit inconvenient that it wasn’t right in the city. I just ended up taking an UBER for $ 10 which wasn’t bad at all. I thought the space/​venue was great. It was very large and they had classes going on in 2 separate rooms. They did have a bar which was nice. For a Thursday there was a decent amount of people. It did suck that they closed everything down at 1030pm. People were extremely nice and asked me to dance several times. I would recommend anyone that likes country western dancing to come and have a good time. I’m looking forward to possibly coming back for Stompede!

I LOVE SUNDANCE SALOON! I have been going to Sundance on and off for about a year now, and every time I go I have an absolute blast! On Sundays, they have a beginner two-​step lesson, followed by a line dance lesson. They teach two line dances every week — one beginner and one intermediate. The lessons are held in separate rooms, and you can choose which lesson to take based on your own skill level.
After the lessons are all done, open dancing starts. The music is a mixture of 2-​step, waltz, and even some swing. Every so often they take a break for a couple of line dances. The more regularly you go, the more line dances you’ll learn, which makes for an even more enjoyable experience because you can participate more! Even if you don’t know any of the line dances, you will still have a great time. The crowd is very welcoming and drama-​free; everyone is there to have a good time, no diva-​like attitudes here.
Another bonus: Sundance is involved in a lot of charitable work, which I happen to think is AWESOME. Seriously, everyone needs to check this place out. It’s the best!

My wife and I recently moved to the Bay Area from Texas and have been itching for some country dancing. We’ve been to some «country» bars in the city and in the east bay, but nobody there even knew what two stepping was! We found Sundance online and went there this past Thursday to try it out. We had a BLAST.
There’s a $ 5 cover on Thursdays, which also gets you a raffle ticket (they give out prizes each night). All of the staff/​volunteers were super friendly and helpful, filling us in on what we can find there in the way of dance/​drink/​etc.
We arrived just in time (7pm) for an intermediate level Country Waltz lesson. The instructor was very good and clearly knew his stuff. We learned a lot in that 40 minutes of lesson. We are excited to come back for more lessons in the future.
I can’t speak to the drinks and prices thereof, since we were sober that evening. However, there were plenty of people walking around with beers and no line at the bar, so it seems there is not a long wait for drinks.
Our only qualm was the area. You have to park on the street, and though there is good enough lighting on the side walk we still didn’t love the area. That being said, just walk with purpose and with a friend and play it cool. This place is definitely worth checking out!

This is one of my favorite things in San Francisco, that I look forward to every week! Great crowd of people that come to enjoy a mixture of line dancing, two-​step, waltz, and swing dance. Same-​sex dancing but also very straight friendly; overall amazingly cool and vibrant crowd of people from ages 21 – 81.
And come on, its only $ 5 to get in for hours of dancing and instruction. Seriously, you don’t get better then this wonderful place!

4. Teachers can be snobby, I stopped coming to the classes because this teacher was such a queen, would rather take classes somewhere else.
5. Drinks are expensive.
6. Regulars are so unwilling to dance with someone new. Come on people, high school ended a long time ago, cliques are not cute.
7. Too many line dances. I don’t hate them, just would like to reduce them.
8. Needs more swing dance songs, one song a night not enough! lol They should also add swing classes!
9. I like how this place attracts more people from the lgbt community. Mostly gay men here, but it’s not entirely men like clubs or bars in the castro. BUT, I want to see more L and T from our community! :)
10. I like that there’s people of all ages who come together and dance.

I am HOOKED on country-​western dancing, thanks to Sundance! I started going back in May and I can’t get enough. Sunday nights are a hoot and a half… it all starts with beginner two stepping lessons, followed by a line dance lesson. Later on in the evening they play the song for the line dance you just learned, and you feel oh so cool rockin’ out to it! I’ve recently moved onto intermediate two-​stepping lessons, which are offered on Thursdays. Thursdays are a bit of a different vibe… fewer folks but just as fun and a line dance is taught too.
Not only is the dancing instruction radtastic, but the community is just amazing. I went for the first time not knowing a single person, and was welcomed in with open arms. I don’t know how or why, but Sundance just attracts the friendliest peeps around!
Looking forward to Pride festivities and the infamous Stompede in October (full weekend of lessons and dancing with folks coming in from all over!).
Big shout out to all the volunteers to make this happen!

I am a real person and this is my honest review!!!
I’ve learned more than just dance steps at Sundance Saloon. I also discovered the most wonderful friends. My best friend from Sundance, Jim, has offered to accompany me to a stessful and important medical appointment. There is no other organization in the country that is so dedicated to cultivating meaninful relationships among gay and lesbian people. I am grateful for every person at Sundance who has danced with me and offered me friendship during difficult times.

Everyone is warmly welcomed! No one is left out, no gender, no size, no age… it is by far the friendliest place to go in our community to meet people and dance and smile. You can’t help but smile, everyone is smiling as they spin their partners around the dance floor. It’s magic-​medicine for the heart and the soul. It is a tradition at Sundance to make everyone feel welcomed. And they/​we do!
It is a nonprofit group established by great people who not only love dancing but place as the highest priority building a sense of community and family. We just had our yearly event called STOMPEDE… 3 ½ days of dancing, dance workshops/​classes and events. People came from around the country, from Europe and Australia. And they all remind us how fortunate we are to have this community right here for us every week.
Please give yourself a gift-​forget any hesitation, shyness or preconceived notions about country western music and your ability to dance. Just come by for a visit and you will be swept up, I promise.

Love love LOVE this place! I have been going for a little bit now… maybe about five or six lessons on and off. I must say that I do love this place.
The people here are so amazingly friendly and wonderful, and they always seem to be so cheerful.
While it might still be a little clic-​ish, they open them up wonderfully.
Most gay bars/​clubs, you wouldn’t dare ask anyone to dance, in fear that they would reject you and laugh. Here, it’s almost like you feel the need to do that.
Check it out. They even have lessons for those who aren’t quite sure what they’re doing.
And if you happen to come, be sure to ask me to dance. I’ll be the insanely tall one (I’m about 6’8″ in my boots).

The one place for GREAT country western dancing, GREAT instructors, GREAT music, GREAT bar staff, and GREAT FUN. Sundance Saloon (and Stompede) are filled with the kind of people you want to get to know in the city – people you want to dance with! The team that puts Sundance together on Sundays and Thursdays are incredibly energetic and keep the fun going all year long. Come out country western dancing! You won’t regret it!

Yes, it’s mostly boys… but if you country lovin’ girls (you know who you are!) would show up then we could all have some fun together!

The place for boys who like cowboys who like boys. And some girlz, too. Very friendly crowd. Newcomers are welcome like long lost relatives. The regulars rock, they know all the line dances. The format is: dance lesson from 5:30 t0 6 (no partner necessary), a different partner dance from 6 to 6:3o, then a line dance til 7:15, then open dancing until 10:30. Phew! All for $ 5! It’s all run by volunteers — don’tcha love that??? Be a good egg and give ‘em a donation. Helps fund worthy causes like the Breast Cancer and AIDS Emergency Funds.

I’ve died and gone to country heaven!!! I had sooooo much fun here with my fabulously gay co-​worker. We showed up for the line dancing lessons, fully dressed in my western wear: vintage boots and cowboy hat… hey, they wanted country and they got it! The whole set up is non-​profit and volunteer based so there’s a $ 5 fee at the door. We entered the beginner room, just as they were finishing a fun little country number. We apparently got there just in time for «She Bangs», which was a pretty complicated one I’d have to say. As I concentrated on my steps, I heard country songs crooning in the intermediate room and longed to be there. But first things first… I got Ricky down and felt pretty darn proud of myself. At 6:45, they moved everyone into the big dance room and taught us another one with twirls, stomps, kicks and all!
The scene was totally Broke Back Mountain comes to life: strapping studs in tight jeans, flannels, and cowboy hats… spinning like tops and two-​stepping in sync. Ladies, men can dance if they really wanted to… these guys proved it! They had perfect rhythm, knew every dance, and even added a dramatic stomp or kick from time to time. Some of the dances were fun (line dances), romantic (waltzes, two-​steps), and just down right sexy (the shadow, Midnight waltz). Everyone was having a great time and even though I was fumbling around trying to get the hang of things, no one paid me any mind. In fact, they were really eager to help! I had a few gentlemen ask me to dance and I followed their lead, but I also had a chance to sit back and just watch these cowboys work the room.
They’ve added Thursday night to the line-​up, featuring more line dances and country chaos, so I’ll be sure to check that one out as well. Finally, country in the city… with a kick!
