History

Established in 2005.

Emily Dreblow, owner and lead designer of Soulflower Floral Design, brings a love of flowers (and life) and an attention to detail unsurpassed in the floral design industry. Since 1995, Emily has been creating works of art inspired by the sensual nature flower, plants, textiles and found objects.

Inspired by art mediums such as sculpture, expressive arts and mixed-​media, Emily approaches each project with imagination, innovation and a critical eye for translating each individual client’s style and aesthetic.

Soulflower began through word-​of-​mouth regerrals for wedding and event flowers. Today, it still thrives on the wonderful connections to our past clients and their family and friends to offer full scale floral and event design for weddings, events and accounts servicing commerical and residential settings.

During the past fifteen years, Emily has worked alongside high-​end designers in San Francisco and Minneapolis, where she discovered her unique sensibilities to include textured, organic materials as well as found objects and reclaimed or recycled elements.

Emily’s creativity is an expression of her experience in art, landscape design and world travel. She has attended Thailand’s flower festivals, studied at Europe’s Versailles, Tivoli gardens and Italian villas, visited local orchid growers in Hawaii and discovered flower markets around the world.

Most notable, Emily’s has developed Soulflower with a strong foundation in community and sustainability. From her purchases at the flower market to the ways that flowers are processed, Soulflower is accountable to its community and to the planet. Prior to founding Soulflower, Emily worked in various community organizations providing social services and arts education to San Francisco’s young people and their families.

The flowers were the one thing that I didn’t have to worry about throughout the entire wedding planning process. Planning a wedding is exhausting and I felt like every day there were 100 new decisions to make, but not with Emily. We had one meeting and she basically took it from there and it turned out better than we could have ever imagined. The flowers made the space! Barndiva, where we got married, is a lovely space but it can easily become a casual looking venue. However, Emily transformed the ceremony and dinner area into an elegant dreamworld (for lack of a better word). Not only is she so knowledgeable and easy to work with, but she is spot on when bringing someone’s ideas into reality. The wedding was over two weeks ago, and people are still calling me to talk about the flowers. I could not recommend Emily and Soulflower more. Seriously, if you are looking for a florist for your wedding, there is no need to look any further.

As soon as I met Emily, I knew we were in great hands. She was knew the venue (City Hall) and its regulations, had amazing ideas, and really listened to my ideas (and paid close attention to my Pinterest board for inspiration). When she put her interpretation of my vision into words («dark enchanted garden»), I knew we were in for a magical experience. She happens to be an awesome person as well (and a friend of my husband’s), but I would have gone with Soulflower based on her talent and creativity alone. If you want your florals to be next-​level interesting and beautiful and fun, I have no doubt that Emily can wow in any wedding style. She worked seamlessly with our coordinator (Kathryn from DALD Events) to make our venue even more stunning (going so far as to decorate the City Hall staircase in the most gorgeous, unique way), and everyone loved their bouquets and boutonnieres. I have a feeling the flowers are going to be a HUGE highlight when we get the photos back. Thanks, Emily!

I hired Soulflower Design Studio for my sister’s wedding and that was the best decision I have ever made. I worked with other event planners in the past and although they did a good job the truth is that none of them were as good as Emily. I also want to point out that despite the fact that my budget was not as high as I would have liked Emily and her team still went above and beyond to exceed the my expectations. The bouquets Emily delivered the wedding day were just perfect, everyone who saw them said that they were nothing but a sample of beautiful taste.
Soulflower Design Studio is the best of the best, if you are looking for the best florals for your special day then Emily is your only choice.

Emily provided the florals for our wedding this past April and we were thrilled with the results. Not only did Emily capture the look and feel of our wedding style, but she also pulled off designing florals for our multicultural ceremony! Our ceremony had both an Iranian sofreh aghd and Sri Lankan mandap/​manavarai, both of which include flowers. Emily pulled it all together seamlessly. Best of all, I appreciated Emily’s straightforward communication style. After having other vendors ask me questions like «what celebrity inspires your floral vision the most?» (lol what), Emily’s direct, simple, and no pressure approach was a breath of fresh air.

Emily is one of the most creative, talented and caring people have met during all the years I have spent working in the wedding industry! Emily is amazing! She has amazing taste and super unique style. I hired her for my wedding and I am so happy. I love flowers and I had told my wedding planner that I wanted the best flowers, so she introduced me to Emily. Emily is very nice and listens to everything you have to say. She asks great questions so that she can get an idea of what you’re looking for. I would highly recommend purchasing the option to view a mock-​up ahead of time. She nailed it at the mock-​up and I was relieved. I didn’t attend my wedding unsure of what to expect.

I worked with Lydia and Emily for our June 29th wedding in Calistoga. The entire process was amazing and the ladies at Soulflower were incredibly professional, courteous, and talented.
I’ve loved their work from previous events that I’ve attended in San Francisco and have always hoped to work with them. When it came to picking my florist for the wedding, I knew this was my chance!
From the first consultation, I knew that I loved the way Soulflower worked. Lydia was so friendly yet professional, and we were able to visualize and design from a blank slate. I was not familiar with even the flower names or what would be needed for a wedding, but she was so patient in explaining everything to me and never once made me feel dumb. Her genuine excitement for floral designs really shows as she was flipping through their portfolio, and she helped guide me in finding the perfect designs for my big day. We even went through a few revisions after the initial design and she was helpful every time! It definitely took a lot of stress out of the wedding planning process!
On the day of the wedding, she personally delivered the beautiful bouquets and décor piece and Emily’s work couldn’t have been more perfect! We got so many compliments on how beautiful our center pieces were and my bridesmaids and I were thrilled by how abundant and gorgeous our bouquets were as well. Even the guys who attended on our wedding complimented on the center pieces. That says something.
I would highly recommend Soulflower to any bride as the entire experience was flawless! Oh, and did I mention that the Soulflower team did everything within our budget?

We worked with Lydia for our June 2013 wedding at the Fairmont in San Francisco. My husband and I are so happy that we went with Soulflower. Our flowers exceeded our expectations and made our event so beautiful! From the beginning, Lydia was extremely responsive and so easy to work with. She was able to come with floral arrangements that fit with the look and feel we wanted. She was able to come up with a centerpiece that was original, dramatic, and beautiful! I also loved my bouquet of white and blush peonies and bridesmaids bouquets of peonies, roses and succulents. Lydia was so great about making changes, adhering to what we wanted, and understanding the aesthetic of our wedding. We appreciated all of her insights. We received some many compliments from our guests. Not only did Soulflower provide beautiful flowers, excellent customer service, they were reasonably priced. We strongly recommend Soulflower!

Emily at Soulflower has to be one of the most kind, patient and talented people to work with in the wedding industry!
I worked with Emily and her team on my May 25th wedding. I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted the wedding to look like, and Emily stayed in close communication with me throughout the entire process to make sure the design was done perfectly. I wanted a classic, elegant wedding with all white florals and hints of purple, and she had so many original ideas for how to enhance my vision and make it come to life. My Mother being in the floral and wedding industry, worked with Emily on the floral types and layout. I had three different kinds of alternating table arrangements throughout my wedding reception, and Emily used only the most stunning, high quality florals in everything she did. My bridal bouquet (all white peonies) was one of the highlights! Emily truly exceded all of my expectations and created the absolute wedding of my dreams. Not only did I gain a great wedding vendor throughout this whole process, but a friend and I would recommend Emily to anyone looking for a professional, kind and wonderful designer.

I worked with Emily and Lydia on the flowers for my September 2012 wedding and I was so so pleased that I picked them! They were both responsive and easy to work with and very professional. Right from the start, Emily understood my vision for the flowers. I met with a few other florists before deciding on Soulflower and the others either didn’t seem to have many original ideas or they didn’t think they could work within my flower budget. But I never got that attitude with Emily. We discussed ways to trim costs and we talked a lot about my flower ideas and likes and dislikes. I am a visual person so in addition to my flower proposal, Emily and Lydia even met me at the flower market so that I could get a sense of what my flowers might look like for the big day.
On my wedding day, my bouquet was beautiful! I LOVED IT! It was exactly what I had wanted — vibrant, textured, amazing. Throughout the night people told me how much they liked my flowers, the corsages and boutonnieres, and the table arrangements. Some guests even told me that they thought the flowers were fake because they were so beautiful!
I am so glad that I decided to work with Soulflower. It was one of the best wedding decisions that I made!

I worked with Lydia for my September 2012 wedding. We initially spoke on the phone so she could ask me some questions about what I was looking for and she was incredibly patient with me. She really worked with my budget and didn’t make me feel bad for really wanting to stick within a relatively modest budget — we found some ways to cut costs (e.g., I purchased my own mason jars and jelly jars) and ultimately, she absolutely nailed what I was looking for. I wanted really organic, natural looking arrangements and bouquets with seasonal flowers and succulents and Lydia delivered above and beyond on the day of the wedding. So many guests complimented the beautiful flowers and were excited to take them home. I would absolutely recommend Lydia and Soulflower for any bride looking for creative, beautiful, and elegant floral arrangements!

My wife and I married last April and from the get-​go, Emily was so professional, patient and creative, it made the whole process a joy. Emily is so creative and helpful with design ideas, using the most fresh and seasonal flowers; her bouquets were gorgeous and our whole ceremony and reception came to life with her flowers and designs.

Emily did the flowers for my October 2011 wedding. I don’t know that much about flowers but I did have a certain vision in mind. I did a cocktail wedding and I wanted something modern, clean, but whimsical.
I met with another florist and while he was nice he was only going to give me exactly what I asked for rather than designing the flowers. I wanted to see a little more creativity and design in the flowers and Emily was the right person for the job.
Since she’s done flowers for my reception venue at Axis Café she was able to offer better suggestions on what would work well in the space. Originally I wanted low centerpieces but Axis has high ceilings so she opted for taller centerpieces so that they wouldn’t get lost in the space. Emily was willing to work within my budget and offered suggestions on what would give me more bang for my buck such as ensuring there are some flowers at a buffet table or going with hurricane lamps and candles on the fireplace rather than flowers. She appreciated that for the kind of venue it was it didn’t need a bunch of flowers to dress it up, just a few key centerpieces.
Emily was able to bring the vision I wanted to life and it was even better than I could’ve imagined! When I walked into the space that day I couldn’t stop thinking how gorgeous the flowers were and how they really enhanced the space. People were coming up to me commenting on the flowers as well. Emily did the flowers for my October 2009 wedding. She was super! I am not one of those people who has had the flowers picked out for my wedding since childhood, and I don’t really know flower names beyond rose, carnation, lily, daisy, and tulip. Emily was a great partner in helping me suss out what I liked and didn’t like, and eventually helped put together a very unique, colorful, modern floral motif for my wedding.
We didn’t have a large floral budget, and I didn’t want to waste a lot of cut flowers, so she was great about working with what we had, and also with coming up with simple strategies to have the most bang for our buck (like stringing gorgeous orchids on the wall behind where our ceremony took place or getting succulents that guests could take home and plant for the centerpieces).
Emily is also very philanthropic, and donates florals to nonprofit organizations, and I so really liked that side of her too. After meeting with Emily about my wedding, I felt at ease, like I had just hired a friend who was totally on my team and together we were going to make sure the wedding looked amazing. And it did. Also, I’m using her as a consultant for a friend’s wedding, she has fabulous ideas, very kind and inspiring with her words as I’m a total florally challenged. I highly recommend her, she has great taste and ideas.
Update on 8÷23÷11. Post wedding. I have profound new respect for florists. I never thought it would be easy, but I am so thankful that I took the time to consult Emily. Her tips, suggestions helped me tremendously get through the project. It’s a lot of work and it turned out beautifully. I’ll post pics later.

I really love Emily and the work she did for our wedding.
I wanted to find a florist who would work within our limited floral budget, but i still wanted my flowers to pop and make a statement. Emily did it all. From her calm, professional demeanor, to her brainstorming funky, texturized flower ideas, to graciously replying every time I sent her a new favorite dahlia color during the farmer’s market runs the summer before our October wedding, Emily took it all in, kept updating our proposal, and worked with me to make it all look fabulous.
Some favorite aspects of our wedding flowers were my bouquet and the rituals she helped me create, as well as our reception arrangements, that tied the ritual and the reception flowers all together. Instead of having an army of bridesmaids, I had my girlfriends line the aisle and each hand me a different colored dahlia, which is the flower of San Francisco. There were about ten different girlfriends awaiting me with huge grins while I walked down with my dad. I highly recommend it! At the end, my bouquet was overflowing with femininity and it made not only my original bouquet stand out, but encircled it with a lot more color and excitement. It was like having two bouquets in one day! (see my photos here attached to review)
What I also loved was that while brainstorming an alternative role for ringbearers, I explained a concept that my husband and I had learned and used from pre-​marital counseling: the metaphor of extending an olive branch to say I’m sorry and move on from a disagreement. I told Emily I wanted to use this somehow in the ceremony and she recommended having the boys carry olive branches down the aisle and then later pause during the ceremony to explain this while the boys brought the olive branches up to the altar. This allowed the significance of the ringbearers to remain (something about boys turning into men on the wedding day, signifying the transition for my husband from «boy» to «man»), and then later she incorporated those olive branches into our buffet table arrangement, as well as the arrangement on the bar.
Lastly, I loved how she created two different designs for our centerpieces. I’m not one for «matchy-​matchy» flowers and I prefer for things to be different and funky, while also being polished and tasteful. Emily is the best florist for executing this exact thing. She helped me brainstorm flowers to add texture and funk. Plus, I’m now totally enamored with adding texture to my flowers (like I did by adding peacock feathers to my bouquet) as well as the new flower she introduced me to, celosia, which resembles underwater sea coral. I can’t get enough of it (plus it lasts weeks in a vase at home!)

Emily Dreblow created the lovely floral arrangements for our wedding in September. I actually was introduced to her talents before looking for a florist for the wedding because I had seen the arrangements she did for a work-​related event. I liked that she was community-​oriented and worked with several non-​profits, so I reached out to her once we had chosen a wedding venue (the Limn Gallery in SF) to see if we were a good fit. The minute I met her to tour the venue (and grab a drink afterwards), I was convinced that Emily’s low-​key style, natural approach, and keen eye were the perfect combination — I never contacted another florist.
Our vision for our wedding morphed a bit throughout the process, and Emily never batted an eye when our colors, budget, and preferences shifted. She was clear about when she needed to know the final details, but she allowed us the flexibility to change things along the way. She was great about working with me to get the cost down to what our budget allowed without compromising any of the quality of her work.
I am not one for big poofy floral displays, and our modern venue required something different than traditional wedding flowers. Whereas other wedding vendors might have questioned some of our non-​traditional choices, Emily was always excited by our creative ideas. The succulent centerpieces Emily created were phenomenal, and the best part of all is that our guests got to take home a memento of the event — some guests even took the succulents back to the East Coast with them (I would have probably done this too, if I were an East Coast-​dwelling guest at my own wedding)! My bouquet, the boutonnieres, the other arrangements, and the chuppah décor were all perfectly suited to our tastes — somehow, Emily managed to channel our vision precisely without us even having an exact sense of how all of these things should look.
I wholeheartedly recommend Emily and Soulflower Floral Design — she is talented, down-​to-​earth, and a wonderful person to have on your side during an important event.
