Sheena Kong, MD

I value Dr. Kong’s professionalism and excellence in customer service. For the 3 cosmetic treatments I’ve had with her (lip injections, CoolSculpting, and laser hair removal), she has always explained each step thoroughly and made sure that I was 100% comfortable.
What I admire most is if she doesnt feel that you will receive the best results or benefit from the treatment, she will advise you against doing it. In today’s market with the popularity of cosmetic procedures, most doctors are so caught up in generating revenue — and it’s amazing to know that Dr. Kong just wants the best results for her patients.
Her staff is amazing too! Nelly at the front desk is always so accommodating with my schedule and Katie, the nurse, is so caring and informative with my questions. I love how they moved to a new beautiful office near Union Square, so it’s a convenient walk if you work in the Financial District.
I cannot stress enough that you shouldn’t find doctors through Unilocal.Doing so is as if you’re evaluating a restaurant or hair salon. Instead, please ask for referrals from your primary physician or people you personally trust that are actual patients of that doctor.
For those who insist on finding a quality MD via Unilocal,I hope this review finds you well!

Dr Kong is the best. She is patient and always provides a comprehensive examination and treatment plan. All the while, she treats her patients with respect and kindness. My husband and I have seen Dr Kong for years and she has helped to keep us in tip top shape inside and out. Thank you!

On 11/​30/​2015, I received a response to my review by Dr. Kong herself (at least so it seems from the post). Firstly, I do appreciate direct response as it does mean someone is reading these reviews and hopefully taking account or action.
I do want to say that I am not here to get into a heated exchange or try to get on here to bad mouth anyone or put them or their business in disrepute, I am just sharing my experiences that I feel strongly about.
In the response to my review, Dr. Wong (as listed as the respondent here) offers her apology for not being able to see me and then states she checked her status with Brown & Toland Medical Group, etc. Any reader can check her response for him or her self.
I am a bit lost as I mentioned I was assigned by SFHP (San Francisco HealthPlan). I have done a bit of checking and SFHP and Brown & Toland are not associated as far as I can tell unless there is a contract unseen somewhere that ties them together.
Not withstanding, what is additionally puzzling is that as of the morning of 11/​30/​2015, I actually checked on Brown & Toland’s website and also went back to SFHP’s website and lo and behold Dr. Kong is STILL listed as an active provider, one that is accepting new patients and is a specialist in the field of Internal Medicine. Maybe by the time someone else checks on this it will have been corrected.
If Dr. Kong is indeed NOT a provider for these Medical Groups and is stating so herself, then something is amiss or needs to be corrected. To be fair, this may be an error on the Health Plans themselves or their websites need to be updated or something else if going on.
I do still have the question as to the actual specialty, as mentioned in my initial review Dr. Kong is listed as a Board Certified Internal Medicine practitioner, also as a Primary Care Physician in places such as CPMC, Chinese Community Health Association, etc. Yet her website makes no mention of this, just the stuff about aesthetic medicine, plastic surgery, etc.
Her website itself also states the following, «Dr. Kong is on the active staff of California Pacific Medical Center, St. Francis Memorial Hospital and Chinese Hospital.» This might explain her listing as a CPMC provider and other associated medical groups.
I have never been seen by Dr. Kong and neither have I met her so this is not a review about her as a person, or as a Doctor and her skills abilities and patient treatment. My issue is that I was not able to access care when I needed it and it still seems there is erroneous information out there.
Dr. Kong, I appreciate your response and all, but please as a service to you and we the community around San Francisco, please have accurate information about your services listed out there so we know what to do or NOT do. Good luck to you as well !

Dr. Kong is a lovely, pleasant, respectful and altogether empathetic physician. She is both an internist/​general practitioner and also has a wonderful cosmetic surgery practice. My experiences with her and her staff have always been wonderful.
I believe the current blast of 1 star negative reviews are more than likely perpetrated by either a disgruntled employee or former patient no longer with her office. Don’t believe them until you actually meet Dr. Kong and her staff as, once again, I, and patients I’ve referred, have only had positive experiences thus far.

I haven’t gone to her for general practioner so this review is for her cosmetic services. She is nice and tries to be helpful, but she is under-​qualified at providing cosmetic procedures. She messed up on me & I do not trust her to fix the problem. Save yourself the harm and go to a qualified plastic surgeon. The extra money paid is well worth it because of the risk in irreparable damage by Dr. Kong. Trust me and heed my warning.

Where to begin… the front desk staff is so unprofessional and not friendly whatsoever, eating food at the front, how is that allowed? The fact they blast rap music in the wait room turned me off immediately plus I could hear everything that was being said, including bad mouthing patients. Kanisha was very unhelpful and unpleasant. It might be nice not to have all the charts visible as well. Dr. Kong herself was so conceited, all she could talk about was herself, if you’re looking to hear about her relationship problems that’s the place to go. I will NEVER go back!

Long after I had moved on from my one-​time bad experience with Sheena Kong, I have now been spurred to action after having started getting text messages spammed to my phone about the «cosmetic services» she offers. Even though I was using her as my GP, not to get my lips plumped up. Yes, there is an «opt out» option on the spam, which I am now taking, but in my opinion spam should be opt-​in, not opt-​out. And I had already opted out of her email spam. Business must be suffering…
…Which is not surprising based on my experience with her. I came in for her to assess a medical condition, which I admit probably wasn’t a condition she would see every day. But I had done my research, had spoken to some MDs in the family, so had a general idea of what the treatment might look like. Dr. Kong admitted she didn’t really know about my condition (I’m more than fine with that), proceeded to open her laptop and do research online (a little weird, but okay.), did not refer me to a specialist (point against), and then opted for what seems to be her favorite course of treatment, based on other reviews — she prescribed some antibiotics and sent me on my way (major points against for the frivolous prescription of antibiotics that are almost unequivocally not the appropriate course of action for the condition, unless the situation was so severe that I was looking at hospitalization.) As I was walking out, I thought, «this is a real doctor??» and then heard the receptionist answer the phone — «Dr. Kong’s Medical Spa». WTF? Where am I? That explains the quality of care. Guess I should have Unilocaled this one first… Tore up the prescription and never went back.
TL;DR — know how to use a laptop and WebMD? Got a doctor friend who’s willing to abuse their script pad and hand out needless antibiotics? Then just save yourself the trip. And the text message spam.

After twenty plus years with my Primary care physician, I need to change doctor due to change of insurance. My criteria for a new primary care physician are: 1. Medical experience; 2. Ease of appointment; 3. Competent and courteous staffs; 4. Clean office; 5. Easy access location & parking. Dr. Kong has met and exceeded my expectation. She and her staffs are professional and very pleasant to deal with. On my first visit as her new patient, she spent over 30 minutes with me, making sure all my prescriptions and necessary specialists referrals are taken care off. I am very pleased with my decision !

Do yourself a favor and do not see this doctor! Her technique is inept and she created problems that didn’t exist previously. I was concerned to the point of not allowing her to rectify the issue. As I belatedly read through these reviews, I agree with several of the negative experiences. She really should be reported to the medical board.

Dr. Sheena Kong is a-​ok and alright. I went to her for a couple procedures. She was very nice and did a great job. I was looking on groupon to find a deal for another procedure I wanted to do but chickened out and decided to go w/​someone trustworthy so will continue with Dr. Kong.

Dr. Kong is my General Physician.
1) Medically — She takes care of you. She is straightforward and you feel very comfortable with her. She takes the time to explain issues. If you have an issue, she will see you immediately or at least call and talk to you.
2) Staff — Her staff is extremely competent and helpful. She has a busy practice and her staff runs such practice, despite all the work.
Overall, I intend to keep her as my GP.

So I just noticed that Dr. Kong wrote a response to my review two years ago (which was FOUR years after I wrote the review) saying she can’t find me in her client database.
No, I’m not there because she hasn’t been my doctor since the incident I wrote about in my review. I go to my General Practitioner when I need treatment and/​or follow-​up for an illness. But she can’t be bothered to provide that. On the other hand, she had no qualms about marketing Groupon coupons to her patients for cosmetic surgery, and expresses surprise that I wouldn’t welcome the offer of cheap botox. I’ve never been upsold by a doctor before, and I sincerely hope it never happens again. If I wanted botox I’d go to a certified specialist, not some alleged GP who can’t be bothered to practice actual medicine.

Some things never change. As I write I’m sitting in the waiting room having been told the doctor would arrive 45 minutes after my apt was booked. So whatever you see her for be sure to leave a lot of extra time. Other than that the staff was great and my procedure went well. I thought she put a lot of care into the procedure.

Dr. Kong is the most caring and dedicated Doctor I have ever had. Her office staff is so kind and not only cares for each patient that walks thru the door, but they care for the well being of the doctor. I never have to wait. The office is clean. And — now that she does Botox… I love it there! I feel so much safer having my doctor give me Botox than some random other spa or otherwise. Dr. Kong is gentle and educative and only gives you what you need — she’s not afraid to tell you if need more too! ;) something I appreciate. Honest and sweet and always wears great shoes.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kong’s for about two years now and have finally had enough. It’s typical for her to make you wait 30 – 40 minutes for an appointment, which is pretty rude. However, the last time I scheduled an appointment in the morning and after waiting almost an hour and realizing I had to go fill the meter, Dr. Kong came strolling in the office as I was leaving. Not even showing up for appointments? Doesn’t she realize her patients work too?
I had a high fever this week and called the office in the morning to get advice. They promised to call me back. I called at the end of the day after not hearing from them and they said I’d have to make an appointment, but of course she’s booked all week. Not at all how I want to be treated when I’m sick.

Wonderful experience! It was my first time and I used a Groupon.
I called to book an appointment and Katie the receptionist booked me for a week away, however, I told her that I had this event to attend to. Katie got me in that day to see Dr. Kong. I am so so grateful!
I found ample parking in the parking garage.
The office staff really care and do everything to make sure that you are comfortable when you arrive.
Dr. Kong is so sweet. She does everything to make sure that you do not feel any discomfort. She is one of the most GENTLE doctors who have ever given me lip injections. I have seen many different people to receive injections, but for the first time, I had ZERO BRUISING!
Dr. Kong listened to me, we talked about the desired look I was going for, and went as slow as possible to ensure that I was satisfied with everything.
Dr.Kong really made me feel heard and comfortable. She is a very sweet person and I will never go to anyone else.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Kong to anyone. If you are thinking about lip injections for the first time, then I really recommend Dr. Kong because you won’t feel anything.

Based on my recent experience with Dr. Sheena Kong, I can’t think of a physician with a private practice that is more concerned with the satisfaction of each individual patient she meets. Dr. Kong personally went above and beyond to help me and was very communicative and available. I am sure this business philosophy is reflected in her work, as she clearly prioritizes making sure each individual patient’s experience is comfortable, convenient, and quality. I will definitely see Dr. Kong again because she values her patients, takes pride in her work, and embraces responsibility for the success of her practice.

I had a very, very bad experience with Dr. Sheena Kong in September 2013 and have reported the incident to the Medical Board of California. If you also have experienced negligent treatment, substandard care, or even injury, I encourage you to file a complaint with the Medical Board as well:
I have considered detailing this experience here on Unilocal (I had purchased a
certificate for IPL treatment), but decided to not go into the personal details for a variety of reasons. I just want to make sure that others are aware that they have rights as consumers to report a physician if they have suffered in any way.
I had given Dr. Kong opportunity to make the situation right and to cover additional costs (which do not account for time and suffering involved), but as she refused to as noted in a letter I received from her attorney, it seems she believes she treated me appropriately, which I believe is not the case. The Medical Board will decide the outcome as will the court if I decide to pursue a case, which I am currently considering.
A word of advice to all: please get a thorough consultation and evaluation from any medical provider performing a «cosmetic dermatology» treatment, especially one who is not board certified by the Medical Board of Dermatology. Also, make sure you get personal references and do not just rely on Unilocal reviews. I hope this post saves others from the unexpected pain, suffering, and expense I went through.

I think if anyone could fully evaluate and properly review Dr. Kong’s medical abilities it would be me. I’ve seen Dr. Kong once a month for years now and she has been nothing but caring, kind and helpful. I look at these negative reviews and feel sorry for the people writing them because there is obviously something wrong. These things keep me guessing at night. What could it be? Maybe they’re paid off by another Doctor that doesn’t like Dr. Kong, maybe they were high on something when they wrote the review, or maybe they were asking her to do things that she couldn’t legally do. Look, it could be anything. All I know is that I’ve had many different doctors and Dr. Kong is the only Doctor that I feel truly cares about helping others, cares how I feel and asks questions to better my day to day life. I really don’t know where I would be without Dr. Kong.
Unilocal, you have been good to me too. I would goto Unilocal parties all the time, but I have lost faith in the real meaning of Unilocal.I hate to see someone that cares so much about people get bad reviews. Bad reviews = Bad Business…
