Sandy T Shih, DDS

I LOVE SANDY SHIH!!! I am writing this as a sad former patient, because I moved to San Jose and about to have my second child so I can’t easily make it up to SF anymore :(But I swear if I didn’t have kids to contend with, I would make the drive up just to see Dr. Shih.
She is absolutely incredible!!! She is the sweetest person I have ever met. I have never had a better dentist. She is so bright and cheery and truly truly cares about her patients. I called to tell her that I moved just so she knew why I wasn’t coming back for a cleaning and on the phone, she asked about my pregnancy and also remembered not only the first name of my daughter but her MIDDLE name too!!! I mean come on, how nice is that?! I would bring my daughter in with me and she did so much to keep her entertained while I got my teeth cleaned, she had all sorts of toys that she gave her and she even blew up a rubber glove to let her play with like a balloon! hahaha :) Just one of the thousand of reasons I love Dr. Shih :)
She is such a happy person and is just so so kind, but she is also very much a professional. I always trusted her judgement and she never made me feel embarrassed for being too lazy to floss hahaha :) I knew I could ask her about anything related to my dental health and she would know the answer. She made adjustments to my mouth guard so many times to get it just right so I could be comfortable wearing it at night (I’m a tooth grinder!).
She is an incredible person and an incredible dentist. Do yourself a favor and go see her, I bet you that you will not regret it!!!

I’m not one for hyperbole, so when I say this, it’s 100% fact: Sandy Shih is the best dentist I’ve ever had. No, seriously: the best. There’s no one in the world I trust more with my teeth. Besides the tooth fairy, of course. But she’s not real (or is she?). So, Sandy it is. You hear that, Sandy? I entrust you with my teeth. Make them proud (I know you will)!
BTW: In case you’re wondering how much I love Sandy, check this fact: I’ve followed Sandy across multiple offices. Not one (nope). Not two (pfft!). But three (yes, THREE!) different offices. And y’know what? I don’t even mind her newest office is a little far from me. It’s worth it. Trust me.
Seriously, though: here’s 3 reasons why Sandy is so great:
1. Expertise: Sandy always knows what’s up with my teeth. Whenever I have questions and/​or issues, I always know I’ll get a honest answer.
2. Execution: Y’know how most people fear dentists? I don’t fear Sandy. In fact, I look forward to my visits because every one is pleasant and pain-​free (and I’m received some hefty work, too, like a replacement crown).
3. Demeanor: Sandy is one of the nicest people (let alone dentists) I’ve ever met. You’d have to be a robot not enjoy talking with her (no offense, robots).
If you’ve read this far, congrats! Go visit Sandy. I can’t recommend her enough.

Ask her to tell you her knee-​slapping dentist joke. She only has one, but it’s a doozy!

Dr. Sandy Shih was a true professional, she is gentle, has great bedside manners, and has executed every dental procedure I’ve needed over the past 5 years. Dr. Shih’s staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend Dr. Sandy Shih for your dental care.

Dr. Sandy and her staff are beyond awesome. She has always taken the extra step to accommodate me for my very challenging schedule, and has always ensured my comfort came first. Since, I have begun going to Sandy; I have had my teeth cleaned, cavities filled, 3 root canals (recommended me to an amazing Ortho Surgeon!!!) and 2 crowns. As you can guess this took many visits, and time after time again I was extremely pleased. Not only do I love talking to Sandy, her bedside manner has always kept me educated on how to take care of my teeth. One time, I accidentally came to my appointment a day early! She actually cancelled her staff meeting that was taking place and took me in! Overall extremely great service, extraordinarily clean! very trustworthy and the absolutely best dental care I have ever had!

I had major teeth reconstructive surgery and hadn’t found a dentist in SF that I felt comfortable with… As soon as I walked into Sandy’s office and spoke with her, I knew that it was the place to be. She ook the time to sit down and speak with me before she begun which was such a great way to build a relationship between the patient and doctor. I felt very comfortable there and she was very very friendly.
I highly recommend everyone to go to her practice. Great dentist and it’s easy to build a relationship with her.

I have been seeing Sandy since I moved to the city and she does an incredible job!!! She’s very personable and makes my smile shine. She always listens to my ridiculous stories and always gives great advice. She routinely checks to make sure I’m comfortable and taken care of. She’s an amazing dentist and an incredible person as well, it’s like seeing a psychiatrist and dentist all in one. Her staff is always very dedicated to making my visits effortless and fantastic.

This is the first review i have ever wrote and the only reason i’m writing it is because Dr Shih is a wonderful dentist. Not only did she make me feel comfortable the second i jumped into her chair she is truly concerned about your health, giving you the best course of action for your teeth and for your wallet or purse ! She lets you know every step of the way whats going on and what options you have. After my session she even gave me a follow up call to see how i was doing and made sure i was alright and let me know that if anything were to bothering me regarding my tooth to call her anytime. She was gentle and i received a root canal and a filling that felt absolutely painless. Dr Shih is an amazing dentist and i wouldn’t have found her if it wasn’t for people leaving feedback so here is mine– If you want an old school style dentist who actually cares and does great work search no longer!!!

Dr. Shih is a wonderful family dentist. I first went to see her because my previous dentist didn’t work on Fridays and I needed to find a new one who was available then. I went in with high hopes based on her Unilocal reviews, but she truly exceeded my expectations. She cleaned my teeth herself and was thorough, skilled, and most importantly gentle. She’s since taken care of a few other issues for me and the process was equally painless. Additionally, her assistant, May, took the fastest set of dental x-​rays I’ve ever had — the whole team is excellent.
On top of Dr. Shih’s mad dentistry skills, she’s truly a lovely person and I look forward to my visits with her. I’ve since had my dentist-​phobic husband switch to her. And now we take our toddler to see her to take care of his adorable smile. Our whole family is well cared for by Dr. Shih and we feel so lucky to have found her. Very highly recommended!

I have a 21 month old & our 3x daily teeth brushing resembles a Greco-​Roman wrestling match, complete with headlocks, turnovers and grappling holds, just to keep the plaque at bay.
Needless to say, I don’t look forward to it and I was absolutely dreading having to pin him down for his 6 month cleaning today @ Dr. Shih’s. But I shouldn’t have had a single worry as she is quite frankly the single most gentle Dentist I’ve ever met. EVER.
She’s especially brilliant with toddlers with a reassuring and friendly style, not to mention, has a big trunk of parting gifts as a final reward. Today, my son lay on me patiently (no pinning, no wrestling) for an entire visit, while his teeth were cleaned, brushed and polished. It is amazing how she wields her periodontal scaler so deftly but oh sooooo gently!
Thanks to Dr. Shih and super friendly staff, trips to the Dentist can be fun and end in smiles & hugs.

I am the wife of a retired dentist. After living outside of the country for years, I knew that upon my relocation i would have to find a dentist. My daughter suggested Unilocal.I have to thank you all for writing reviews about Dr. Shih so accurately! Everything that has been written about her is true.
I broke my front tooth right before my 60^th birthday. Dr. Shih’s office found space for me and the results were fantastic! I love my new tooth and the experience was as close to fun as you can get in a dental office.

Dr. Shih is the best dentist I’ve ever had in this city. She is committed to my long term care by telling me what potential issues I may have in the future (potential costs as well so I can plan) versus many dentists that only want to deal with the issue at hand. She takes the time to explain what your immediate needs are in layman’s terms and puts you at ease in the dreaded chair. Her attitude is great and she has an easy conversational style that makes my appointments go by quickly. Don’t get me wrong, she is not a specialist in every dental treatment needed (ie. implants, etc) but she will find the specialist that will give you the appropriate care and be there to support or guide you along the way. I’ve been a pain in the ass patient for sure and I’m very lucky and blessed that Dr. Shih is still willing to be my «quarterback» when it comes to dental care.

Dr. Sandy Shih is by far one of the best dentists I have been to for the past couple of years. I have visited about 7 – 10 different dentists in the past 2.5 decades. Not that most of them weren’t good dentists but none of them were great dentists. Dr. Shih has an educational approach in explaining what she sees during a dental examine and thoroughly explains what she plans on doing next, while sitting in the convention dreaded dental chairs. This technique of hers provide me a genuine sense of comfort while pondering the discomfort I use to experience when my old dentists treated my mouth like a mechanic garage with the lights, the pounding, and the drilling. Dr. Shih’s staff is extremely friendly, the office is clean, and the location is convenient. I have personally recommended my family and friends to give her an opportunity to pay your teeth and mouth a visit.

I actually live in Los Angeles so Sandy Shih is not my regular Dentist but I needed to have some work done while I was up there. Long story short, I took on a chicken, thought I had all but won, but in a last flurry of defiance, the chicken knocked my tooth out. My fault really, I had let my guard down while chomping on it’s leg. Fine I’m exaggerating, it was more like a chip. A friend recommended Doctor Shih and gave her office a call on my behalf. Even though she was not scheduled to be in that particular weekend, the office called her and she made an exception to help me with my dental woes. Her work is fantastic, I swear my tooth looks better now than it did before my nightmarish poultry fiasco. She also told me I had no cavities. Unrelated, maybe, but I thought I’d just throw that out there.

Dr. Shih is a great dentist in the city. Not only will she give you an expertly thorough exam, but her knowledge of reality TV dancing shows will put you to ease when you’re helplessly looking up at those scary cleaning tools dentist’s love to use.
Seriously though, like everyone else I hate going to the dentist, and I only go once every few years or when I absolutely need too, but not only was my experience painless, she made sure I was comfortable at all times and she made some great dental recommendations.
She recommended Invisalign for me and at first I thought I was too old at 30, but she said that its never too late to have straight teeth. After thinking it over I decided to do it and a year later I’ve never realized what a difference it has made in my life. Not that my teeth were that bad, but once it was done I could notice the positive difference the way people looked at me. I felt like a new me with more confidence.
Now I try to go see her twice a year just to make sure my teeth are healthy and to get updated on any new dental tips.
Dr Shih will give you the best recommendations and service without gouging you out of all your money and making your dental visit the most pleasant as possible. So, if you’re looking for a cleaning or for someone to take away the pain of a tooth ache, she is the best there is in SF.
