San Francisco Paint Source

I’ve had some negative experiences with several paint stores and their awful color consultants, and so before we stepped into Fregosi’s paint store I told the hubby that I’d let things slip to make the process less frustrating for me.
The first person who helped us was this friendly knowledgeable elder gentleman who took the time to explain things to us, go over certain options, and made sound recommendations.
Wait, where were the abusive condescending remarks? No comments about how unprepared we were to speak with them? No derision about how nonsensical our requests were? How about cutting the conversation short then turning your back on us to talk to someone else?
I told the gentleman how refreshing is was to speak with him, and how much of a positive experience it was to shop in the store. I felt sheepish when I realized that we had been speaking with Mr. Fregosi (the owner) himself!
I can’t help but think that Mr. Fregosi’s attitude has truly set the tone for his store. I am not surprised that his store’s Unilocal page was full of 5-​star reviews. It is truly well-​deserved!

We r new to painting and showed up at this shop with no idea of what we were getting into. We were treated with enthusiasm for our project. The sales clerk was a painting specialist who had grown up painting with his fathers business. He explained everything that was necessary… Colors primers prep gloss etc. we returned to the house with all the necessary tools and product and the paint turned out great!

Great guys that are very knowledgeable and helpful. We buy all our paint supplies from SF Paint Source.

What a great store. It has a very community oriented feel to it with friendly and knowledgeable service, a clean shopping environment and a great selection of paint and painting supplies.
I love to support local business but I especially like to support those businesses that have it together. This store is awesome. They get five stars on all fronts.
The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help. I didn’t have to chase anyone down.
My favorite part of this store though (aside from the great energy) is the color studio area. They have these special lights that will actually show you the true color of the sample at any time during the day. For me, this took paint color to a whole new level. It makes a difference if you pay attention to the time of day you spend in specific rooms. It was really cool.
I had not heard of Farrow & Ball before but they explained that it’s an eco-​friendly paint that’s better for the environment. I love that they have that option available.
They carry Benjamin Moore which is more in my price range for some of the projects I have and I love their colors.
Not only was I super inspired after visiting but I’m actually now looking forward to the projects I have lined up for my home.
I will be visiting them again soon and am looking forward to another great experience.

Cody is an amazingly responsive and knowledgable presence in the store. He listened carefully (very important) and helped me with a DIY door refinishing project that would have taken so much longer and had many mis-​steps without him.
For a minimum order of materials he made custom sample boards of glaze for me so I could match my floors and gave me tons of advice on application as well as tools and materials.
I listened to him and my doors look amazing! Many, MANY, hours and a whole lot of sweat later, I saved myself $ 5,000 and got the satisfaction of doing it myself. Now I don’t have to fear about any future damage to the finish because I know exactly how to repair it!
I don’t believe I would have gotten this level of service anywhere else and I will be back to work with Cody again should I start another big DIY project!

I love this place! It has everything you will ever need for painting. I can spend a whole day here browsing through their merchandise.
I ordered some Farrow and Ball paints over the phone, and they were helpful in helping me placing a special order the colors that they didn’t stock. I ended up having unused paints and I was able to return them back to the store.

I need a deck protection product and found all I needed (and more) at SF Paint Source. I called before coming in and the information I received over the phone was excellent. The product I wanted has been discontinued so they found a similar product for me. I placed my order by phone and it was sitting waiting for me when I arrived at the Pennsylvania location. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The store is large and it is laid out well so it is easy to find paint products.

My boyfriend and I walked into this store with a vague idea of what we wanted for a paint job in a room we’ve only seen once. So, naturally, we saw all the paint swatches and were immediately overwhelmed. As we were comparing colors and trying to remember what our original game plan was («Blue and green, yes, I remember, but I have FIFTY shades of green here!» followed by giggles), a super friendly employee came over and asked us how we were doing («Well…I mean, I’m freaking out»). He offered his opinion and gave us some new ideas, and when he walked away we felt like we could make a much more educated decision. Upon reaching the cashier, however, we of course started having doubts and an awesome dude named CODY (not Ben!) helped us out and was very patient, kind and informative. When I stared suspiciously at a photo of the color in a brochure, he reassured me that, worst case scenario we’d just paint over it! Totally true.
I would definitely come back here for any future painting needs. Tons of variety on everything paint-​related possible is all they would have needed to get a good review from me. But with the added plus of super friendly and knowledgeable staff that put up with my momentary whining and doubts, can’t get much better than that!

This place is great. super super helpful. They let me borrow their paint wheels saving me about $ 50. The staff is friendly and it is a great place in the city to get paint.

Interior Design Fair visited San Francisco Paint Source for the first time yesterday! Paint Source had the best customer service! They are fully staffed with down-​to-​earth and knowledgeable people who are excited about what they do. They gave us Cabot Stain samples that we requested for a conference room for our client, AIRBNB-​P2. Thank you so much Paint Source! We appreciate your business and will see you soon!

Knowledgeable, helpful, relaxed, supportive and generous is what comes to mind when I think of SF Paint Source! (formerly Fregosi & Co.) When we moved a couple of years ago and needed to transform all our white walls, we came here and they were able to help us with all our painting needs. They have everything you need, are friendly, and have the patience to answer all your questions. But that is nothing compared to the generosity of James, the owner, and all the kindness he showed to a community organization this week.
My wife is a volunteer team member and member gardener with NOMADgardens (
) and they had a community work day this past Saturday in which painting old doors and window frames was on the to-​do list. The doors will become either community chalk boards or tomato trellis’, while the window frames will become succulent planters. On Friday she and another volunteer met with James, with only a t-​shirt to show the colors of the NOMADgardens logo ready to get paint and painting supplies, and from there James performed his magic. Not only did he do the color matching, he walked the ladies through the whole process of what they needed to do for each item and made recommendations for other items in the garden and how to best preserve pallets and wood planters. He’s a gardener himself and very passionate about gardening and supporting the community. By the time they left, he had donated all the paint, painting supplies, his advice and expertise, and even threw in chalkboard markers the ladies wanted to buy themselves for the garden. When I came by the garden to help on Saturday, both ladies were happily sharing what a great experience they had in getting the paint. And from reading other reviews, it’s obvious that his generosity extends to so many other community organizations as well.
From my wife’s experiences I know getting donations is not always an easy task, so kudos to James and SF Paint Source for their generosity to the community and to my wife!

I recently moved and wanted to paint my apartment. Paint Source was SO helpful. James walked me though all the considerations I needed to pick out colors. He asked questions about the lighting, how big the rooms were, what colors would work with each other, etc.
If you are looking for 100% quality customer service and products Paint Source is where you should be shopping!

We just had the most delightful experience at Fregosi and Company. We are a small elementary school in San Francisco and our students are working on a gardening project. We needed paint to paint our wooden flower boxes. James and his father took such unbelievable care of us– giving us a tour of the store, letting us pick our paint colors and walking us through the scanning and check-​out process. It was an amazing experience for both the teachers AND the students that we will certainly always remember. The store is clean, organized and perfectly labeled. We will definitely be back for all our future art and paint projects! Thanks again Fregosi and Co!

I came here to pick out a gray stain color for my cabinet. I didn’t know anything about stains or how to achieve it.
Cody was very helpful at educating me and guiding me to choosing the color I wanted. He made me sample colors and labeled them for me. I was very impressed with his service and professionalism. Incredibly easy going and friendly. Thank you for your excellent service!

Really nice helpful place for all manner of painting supplies. This store has the biggest selection. If you are looking for Farrow and Ball though, you gotta go to the store on 7^th st. (Where they are also nice and helpful but have less gear)

Nice, helpful people here, and they have everything in stock that you need for painting/​staining your house.
The 7^th street location is better if you are choosing paint colors. If you know what you want and only need supplies, this one stocks more.
Not sure if they carry the Farrow and Ball paint here — I don’t think so. Only 7^th street for that brand.

Love this store! My painting contractor suggested I buy Benjamin Moore because it’s the best quality paint, and I’m so happy she did because I wouldn’t otherwise have discovered Fregosi.
I’m a novice painter, but can recognize great product and customer service when I come across it. Fregosi takes the cake for painting resources in Potrero Hill. Lots of product, colors, and super-​friendly customer service (even at their most busiest times). Thanks Fregosi!

These guys know there stuff, I was looking for a concrete paint that wasn’t some budget buster epoxy since I had to refinish over 5000sf. They had it and at a great price, the stuff is bullet proof. The guys are super helpful and Thank god they carry Festool stuff so I don’t have to go to Woodcraft in San Carlos. If you don’t know what that is check it out, then look at the price, they are expensive tools but amazing. Oh and Fregosi rocks at least all the ones in SF.

Awesome paint place. The huge selection of products caters to the professional painter, but the service is welcoming to an amateur like me.
Their colors are matched perfectly and stand behind their product. You’ll realize how important this is when you get burned by neighboring stores who can’t get it right.
Five stars to Fregosi for a great product and experience.

I love this place. I love this place the way shoe fanatics love Manolo Blahniks. While the location in SOMA is more designed more for folks that need or want a designer’s help, the Pennsylvania location is geared more to the do-​it-​yourself who liked to browse and the professional painters. There are still a paint section with loads of samples but the majority of the large store is supplies for painting as well as staining and wood repair material.
As at their other location the service is top notch and even for a first time painter they answer any questions and are helpful. I really appreciate that they never try to sell you on buying more.
I love that it is a family owned business in my neighborhood who believes that good service is one of the most important parts of doing business.
The Benjamin Moore paint isn’t cheap but I love how rich and easy the colour goes on and how one coat is often all I need with even the darkest colours.
