Chicken and potatoes was delicious, 2 hungry guys who shared the full one (recommended for 4) potatoes were crispy and delicious, veggies fresh and seasonal — manager (who appears to also be the owner ?) was attentive and ran an extremely efficient operation — wine list was great by the glass and the lemoncellio affagoto was a refreshing end to the meal — I’ll certainly be back

Good looks ok but the owner is very loud. People doing the seating also rude. Restaurant empty at 530pm sat me in the bar at the end near the bathroom. Many empty tables. Owner at table with 3 drunk women laughing loudly and profusely. Changed my mind after sitting down and ordered a beer and salad to get out of there as fast as possible I feel sorry for the women who have to work there. There are people issues with this business. Creepy older men with jackets, shiny watches bragging about how hot their girlfriends are after boasting about how well their kids are doing. Creepy. Left as fast as I could. Screwed up culture

We came on a Sat night and it was practically empty. Not sure what that meant except it is a bit out of the beaten path.
Kudos to them for accepting a 8 year old gift card. It did take some convincing since their gift card system had changed over the years but they did accept.
Food was not bad. Had a seafood pasta and a house salad. They also gave us plenty of bread to go with it. One entrée is usually good enough for 2 of us but here it seemed a bit meager here. Perhaps that means them at their portions are just the right size as opposed to way too big like in most restaurants.

Most delicious lasagna and best tiramisu ever. Stop by if you want great Italian food and want to be treated like Italian royalty!

I liked my smoked salmon Caesar salad. It wasn’t too hard to get a seat and not too techie-​trendy-​hipster like the rest of the restaurants SOMA!

We came here when our toddler wanted pasta and we got turned away for a table down the street. Luck was on our side because Ristorante Umbria has great pasta and their service was personable, kind, and they were amazing with my son.
We had the kid’s spaghetti marinara that had an surprising depth of flavor for a tomato sauce. My son agreed and ate his whole bowl of pasta. Their burrata appetizer was great: Burrata, prosciutto, arugula atop their great country Italian bread. The linguini con vongole was one of the best linguini and clams I’ve ever had. My only critique is that the pasta is cooked a little longer than I am used to but I love that they take the time to cook their pasta in the sauce so it’s one cohesive dish. My husband’s pizza bianca looked great as well. We finished the meal with the cannoli. I can’t tell if they use a goat cheese or goat’s milk mascarpone but the savory richness of that with the crisp, sweet shell made it one of the best and most interesting cannoli I’ve ever had.
The service was as good as it gets. Without us asking, they hustled and brought my son’s spaghetti out as soon as it was finished so that he could eat as soon as possible. Our food was brought out quickly and efficiently as well. The servers would stop and talk to our son and make sure we were all having a good time. Upon seeing that my son finished his whole dinner, they surprised him with a scoop of chocolate ice cream as a reward. It was such a kind and unexpected gesture, especially after our experience with the hipster douchebag down the street. If we lived closer to Ristorante Umbria, it would be a family favorite for sure. I’ll be sure to stop by the next time I visit San Francisco.

This place was so incredibly authentic. I went with a friend on a Monday night and it was buzzing! The pasta was to die for, and the wine selection is decent, too. Just when we thought we were filled to the brim, the waiter begged us to try the cheesecake. He was so insistent that he actually gave us a slice on the house —and I’m so glad he did! Incredible stuff. I will definitely be back.

We’ve eaten here a couple of times, and tonight was just as good as the other visits. The service is really good, especially as busy as they can be at dinner time.
Tonight was the thin crust pizza, really good. I’ve had the lasagna in the past and it’s wonderful.
They have a large wine selection. Make reservations, it will be needed at times.

Came here on a Wednesday night (with a reservation) but was seated quickly anyway. Nice restaurant in a convenient location to SOMA/​FiDi. Started off with the house bread, which was quite good. We ordered one of their special bruschetta appetizers and thought it was pretty tasty as well. For dinner a friend of mine got the white sauce gnocchi, and I ordered the Spaghetti Alla Umbria. It came with 3 prawns which were quite tasty, grilled asparagus, and tomatoes on a bed of spaghetti with a light garlic tangy sauce. It was not bad at all! Overall this is a nice restaurant in a convenient location that I’d consider coming back to in the future.

Umbria was down the street from the hotel we had our wedding reception at, and a number of our guests ate here — including us! My custom pizza was so-​so, and there was a lot of construction on the street outside that was pretty loud, but they did close the large windows once that got messy.
The place itself is pretty tiny and maybe not quite laid out the best way, but we did enjoy our meal here.

Came in for lunch the other day and had the PENNETTE ALL’ARRABBIATA. It was pretty enjoyable and the waiter was pretty attentive. I may be back to try the DA MAYOR’S SPECIAL.
Unfortunately I have a pretty high bar for Italian food.

I give Umbria props for having decent service and a very good location on the corner of bustling 2^nd Street and Howard. However, the food is where it disappointed my group. The food didn’t seem to amaze me and my group ordered everything from meat dishes, pizzas, salads, and pasta. It wasn’t horrible by any means but our common sentiment was that it felt very «average».
Being my only visit and very convenient to my work, I hope to try them again in the not-​so-​distant future.

A solid, moderately-​priced option in the city complete with attentive service and adequate dining space. Da Mayor’s Special (eggplant parm + lasagna) is a great choice, as are the pizza options. Bread served with dinner leaves a bit to be desired – does not seem to be made on site and didn’t add much to the meal.
Recommend and will return when in the area.

Was delighted to find this place close to where I work. It’s great for lunch as you can sit on the street outside and watch the world go by. Great Italian menu selection. I tried the Italian sausage pasta, which I loved. Wanted a second one! Luckily I had a work colleague who let me finish hers. I hate waste!
The restaurant feels very spacious, which is not common around this part of town where lunch can feel stressful!
I will definitely be back soon, maybe in the evenings this time.

We were at work in the downtown area and this was a recommended place for us to go… I sure am glad that we did! It is a semi-​small Italian corner lunch spot. It was a little upscale, but you could still feel comfortable in whatever you were in.
The two complaints I have are first, that we were slight time constrained and the food took a while. And two, I needed a nap after my meal. Slightly my fault because of what I chose. But when you hear the words «Ox-​Tail Ragu» you can’t pass that up.
The noodles were cooked to perfection. And the ox-​tail tasted like it say in a pot of flavor for days getting tender and delicious. It was a special that day… so if you see it again, risk that afternoon sleepiness and just get it!

We are taught in SF to prepare to be on your own for at least three days when the Big One hits because other people may be more in need than yourself — that’s how service felt…
I counted one server, one busboy and one bartender last night. The guys in suits were hosting– but, not doing much other than that to handle this packed restaurant.
Everyone must have had the same idea – eat here before the Billy Joel concert and then walk to AT&T park down 2^nd Street.
They were seriously understaffed. It took the four of us 2 ½ hours to get through dinner. We made it to the concert and BAM – lights off and here we go.
Our server did the best she could – what a worker! Clap! Clap! Clap!
The favorite was the Quattro Stagione pizza! Yum – prosciutto, greek olives, artichokes etc.
We shared it as an appetizer.
I also ordered the Spaghetti Alla Umbria. The angel hair pasta tossed in olive oli and sautéed garlic and leeks also included three wild shrimp. Asparagus was rested on top of the pasta. Unfortunately, the shrimp were under cooked – that’s a first! This dish had a lot of flavor and I will order this again next time I visit this restaurant.
Others enjoyed the orecchiette with salsicca – it’s a tasty but really heavy dish. The heirloom tomato salad was delicious as was the chicken saltimbocca.
Desserts included espressos, cappuccinos, tiramisu, gelato and a lemoncello ice.
The windows facing the sidewalk are just about floor to ceiling. They were open last night and after observing the busboy exit through them to service the tables outside, we decided to do the same. We all left by hopping out the windows on the sidewalk side of this restaurant.
A diner outside yelled at us, «Hey, did you pay your bill?»
Of course we did – our dine and dash days are far behind us!

Like many others have mentioned, a group of 6 of my colleagues and I just stumbled upon this place when looking for a lunch spot.
It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t exactly super-​awesome either.
Working with a group of 6 during the lunch hour in a busy SF biz district isn’t always easy. Umbria sat us right away and were super-​friendly. The service started out fast, but fizzled as the meal went on. We should have stated that we were in a hurry, but even so, it took a really long time for our lunches to come out.
When they did, everything was tasty, but not mind blowing. I ordered a margarita pizza to share with the table and a chicken salad. Everything was fresh and tasty, but nothing was mind-​blowing-​delicious. Although many of the pasta dishes I saw being passed around looked amazing, so maybe that’s what you need to get when you’re here.

Met some friends and their super cute dog here for dinner Friday night. For SOMA, parking was easy and the outdoor seating was clean.
Nice wine selection. Ordered a bottle of Chianti and it was exactly what I wanted. Paired well with our food. All four of us ordered different entrees and all of our plates were licked clean. I ordered the Mezze pasta and was happy with it.
Daniel, our server was on point. Over the course of the 4 hours we were chillin he didn’t rush or interrupt us. He could vibe that we were not only enjoying our food but our company as well. Towards the end, the fiancé and I couldn’t decide on a dessert. He wanted cheesecake and I wanted the chocolate mousse. Daniel said in his super cute Italian accent «I’ll bring the cheesecake and a little side of the mousse for you because it is very, very good». And he did, no extra charge either and beautiful presentation. 5 stars for that! Go Daniel!
Friends ordered the tiramisu. Standard but not exceptional. The coffee was excellent. Overall, we were well taken care of without feeling interrupted. The place was classy without being pretentious. We never felt the need to leave. Daniel allowed us to feel like we owned the place.
I want to give 5 stars but I can’t. It’s a little overpriced, the tiramisu and focaccia could be better. And the portions could be bigger!

Casual italian place in SoMa. Came here only for dessert.
Tiramisu — ²⁄₅ — While it was homemade, this tiramisu was just way too wet and creamy. The ladyfingers were very soaked and there was so much cream between layers that the top layer literally slid right off of the bottom.
Overall, there are better tiramisu options in the city. «I’ve experienced better.»

I’m dying to give a recommendation on a dish but my Italian is. No Bueno. Most days you won’t need a reservation, but I’d advise it. A list celebrities pop in every now and then so seating may be a challenge.
