Reliable Rent-A-Car

This was a great way to go for a one-​day rental during our visit. Sure you can get a car at the airport for as low as $ 135 for the entire stay but good luck finding a spot to park it for less than $ 35 a day. This was just the right ticket — one day rental (you can do more if you want an just park in their garage each night for free) with easy pick up and drop off. Price was cheapest I’ve seen plus a coupon. I would absolutely do this again and highly recommend. Everyone we dealt with was super nice and helpful.

If you live in San Fran and need a car to rent from the city, this is a great place. No fuss, no frills, no BS, just straightforward service. I paid about $ 45 for a day and they probably wouldn’t have charged if I brought it back a bit late. The guy at the counter was more than friendly and helpful. Will definitely rent here again!

We had originally planned on renting a car from Alamo car rentals. After experiencing very rude customer service there we were recommended to go to this place. None of us had heard of it before. We were more than impressed with the excellent welcome and customer service we received from Leo.
The prices were much cheaper than the big companies. Leo had a Mustang convertible available for us for only $ 150 which is excellent considering we are 21 and had to pay a young renters fee.
We checked in on facebook and received an extra discount.
There is a late drop off option for no extra charge which is excellent as other companies either don’t have this option or charge you highly for it.
The car was amazing and Leo really turned our day from a disaster to brilliant.
Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to rent a car in SF. If I ever return this place will be my first stop!

Very satisfied with these guys! Nearby competitors were a-​holes and grossly more expensive. On the other hand, Reliable Rent-​A-​Car had affordable options and the vehicles were good shape. Not only that, but they had available late night vehicle drop off (at no charge) and space for overnight parking if you were looking to rent for a few days (ALSO at no charge). Overnight parking most places downtown SF was ~$ 70!
When I visit San Francisco again, I know exactly where I’m going for car rental and I know who I’ll be recommending to others that visit there also.

Great experience. Got a last minute car on a Sunday for a better price than any other competitor on the block. They had an economical car and a convertible mustang left, and gave us the mustang for a discounted price. Was given the better price since we were renting late in the day (noon) and were dropping it off that same night. The car came with a free transponder for use on the golden gate bridge. Customer service was great, the rep was helpful and laid back. They also allow late night drop offs, but admittedly the garage (2 blocks from their office) was in a sketchy area. Make sure to get further discounts with their Facebook check-​in.

My fiancé and I planned to rent a car for the day coming from the Marriott Marquee. We were directed by the hotel to the car rental area. Every single place was booked (we arrived at 10:00 and Hertz had nothing available until at least 1:00pm)!! We walked into Reliable and long story short we were able to get a car quickly and the customer service was incredible! The guy working behind the desk literally drove us to the airport in his own personal car to pick up a rental because there was no other available cars at the time downtown. This would never happen at Hertz or with the other major players in the area because Reliable is a small family owned business who can take care of customers under special circumstances. If you are stuck in DT San Francisco and need a car go to Reliable — and thank you to the guy behind the desk (Dan maybe?) you really made our day!!!

I have used their service twice in the last four months and was extremely happy! I think because it is a smaller company the service is more personal, no long lines, and the prices are unbeatable. They have a garage that you can park the car at night at no charge. I recommend them highly and will certainly use them again… IC

I reserved a car online from Enterprise prior to my trip to SF. When I arrived I had issues renting the car because I didn’t physically have a credit card with me even though I had the information. They said they could use my flight information to assist with the rental. When I provided them with the info, they said it had to be SFO airport not Oakland because SFO is closer.
I tried 3 other car rental places nearby that were willing to rent me a car but they didn’t have any available. One of the places recommended Reliable Rent-​A-​Car. I was already so discouraged and had given up hope. I didn’t want to waste any more time on my vacation. When I arrived, they not only had a convertible car available (which is what I wanted), it was less expensive than Enterprise and had a much later drop off time than them as well. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. They made my day! I will not be using any other car service when I’m in the area!

They were great, read the negative reviews and was worried but Leon assured me under new management and resolved issues, proved to be true. Great experience cheep prices. Better prices than any other rental place in areas.

I recently traveled to San Francisco on a business trip. My hotel was right next to Union Square and I decided to rent a car on my day off. As I walked around checking prices, I almost passed this small shop.
I rented a car for $ 39.99 for a small 4-​door car, which was much less than the big car rental companies next door. And a huge plus was the free late night return. Everywhere else wanted about $ 20 to return after 6 pm. I was renting at 11:00 am, so I would’ve been charged extra after only 7 hours of using the car.
The next day, I stopped in to ask about using the car a little longer and then returning to SF airport. Unfortunately, since i had completed the return process, my car was no longer available. I think the owners must have overheard me asking the rental agent for the next best way to get to the airport because they then offered to give me a free ride. They were headed somewhere and the airport was on their way. That’s GREAT customer service!!!

Just wanted to give an awesome rating for enterprise rent a car on San Pablo. The staff were so friendly and really went above and beyond to be super helpful and make it super-​easy for me after my car was in the shop twice. The cars are in nice condition and they have nonsmoking cars. Will, Whitney, and the front office staff were great. This is my first Unilocal review, but they really provided exceptional service. In the past, I really liked renting from these guys. Family owned small business. Cars that were not squeaky clean, but the price was right, $ 29.99/day not to mention feeling like a tourist in my own city. I had made it to the 5^th rental which meant I had 1 free day. Although the deal was honored, I paid more than if I was renting and paying out of pocket. The car was filthy, the employee who rented the car to me swore the gas was a full tank, I planned on just the one day.
I drove 59 miles, the gas came to $ 20.00 (this was a Toyota Versa) and when I returned the car the next morning they said I was 1&½ hrs late, costing me another $ 30.00! The daily rental cost is now $ 49.99/daily. I kept the car for one more day to run some errands, burn off some of the extra fuel I paid for and returned the vehicle before their shop opened. I saw the Manager who swore there was nothing he could do about the discrepancy in the fuel, and pretty much blew me off. In the past, I had NEVER been given a late fee.
DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! Go to Hertz, Enterprise ANYPLACE ELSE! I shudder to think if I needed roadside assistance.

Recently rented a car from Reliable. I had previously had good experience with them.
This time I reserved by phone several days in advance, but when I came to collect the car, they had no record of my reservation whatever. They finally scrounged up a Mustang convertible instead to the Toyota I had asked for. A couple of miles into the trip, a warning appeared on the dash, saying the tire pressure was down. When I stopped, I could see no visible signs of a flat so I ignored the warning. When I returned the car that night the attendant noticed that one rear tire was now quite flat. Can’t imagine the annoyance, let alone danger of a flat on the Bay Bridge. This company is misnamed: they left out the“Un-…”.

Tried to ripe off my Dad and Mom. They lied about some damage to a car they rented from them. We are in Orange CA so they thought we would be unable to fight them on their lies. But we did and we won! IN YOUR FACE Reliable Rent-A-Car…If there was a zero that is what it would be (0)

SCAMMERS!!! BEWARE!!!
This fake car rental company preys on tourists. The cars are a few years old and very busted. They frequently charge your entire $ 500 deposit, claiming you owe a tank of gas, dents, or that you simply «broke the car»!

Been going here for years (maybe 7 now). Good prices, good cars.
A big plus, debit cards are allowed without requiring extra paperwork or Experian credit checks, just a $ 500 hold.
Staff has always been friendly and nice.

This is a nice small rental car business that’s conveniently located and has a fleet of inexpensive cars. On the plus, this is one of the few places in the city you can actually rent a stick-​shift. The other big plus is that you can return the car as late as midnight to the garage. This is so much easier than dealing with parking in San Francisco. On the minus, sometimes your car will smell like smoke or have a less-​than-​pristine interior. The cars they offer are pretty bare-​bones without lots of options. This place definitely aint Hertz. But I prefer renting from the small guy, and I really don’t care for new cars all the time.
The main reason i’m giving this place 2 stars is the lack of available liability insurance. I clearly told them I have no car insurance since I don’t own a car. I wanted to purchase rental liability insurance. They assured me over the phone that it wasn’t a problem. When I got there, there was no mention of extra liability coverage, but they did charge me for physical damage recovery for $ 9 a day, which would do nothing to cover me from liability if I were at fault. The owner then showed me a general liability coverage policy and insisted I don’t need extra insurance. I rented the car. But later after reading the contract which I signed, it clearly stated on the back of the rental contract:
«Liability Insurance. You comply with the requirements of Financial Responsibility insurance, or other means or combination thereof. I understand that this agreement does not afford me or any other operator any insurance or protection against liability».
So basically either the owner lied to me, or the contract was very wrong. I feel that had I been responsible for an accident, their insurance company would claim that I failed to comply with the terms of the rental contract which I signed. If the police pulled me over and needed to provide proof of insurance, I would not be able to.
If you have your own car insurance policy, you like driving stick, like to be able to return your car late at night, and you don’t mind cars that are less than prime, then reliable rentacar is a fine company. If you don’t have your own car insurance, DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE. They will try to tell you that you don’t need liability insurance, but the fine print on the contract that you sign clearly states otherwise.
Followup– I contacted the California Dept of Insurance, and they informed me that this car rental company was completely wrong, and that legally they should not ever rent a car to anyone who claims they don’t have insurance. If you don’t have your own car insurance, it is illegal to rent from these people because you’re driving their car without any insurance.

Had a very bad experience with this company over the Memorial Day weekend. Rented us a Mustang convertible with stains on the interior, cigarette burns in the back seat upholstery, low air tires, missing parts on the seats to get out of the back seat and the convertible flew up during our drive on the freeway. We are considering challenging this on our credit card. If you want a safe car, go elsewhere.

If you want to rent a car with multiple dents, missing parts, and 80,000 miles plus on the odometer — this place is for you! That is exactly what they gave me. When I complained to the manager, he tried to charge me double!!! Run the other direction as fast as you can.
