This is a chocalatier with a retail location in the ferry building.
They have pre-​packaged boxes to go with sizes ranging from 4 – 40 pieces, but it’s very possible to assemble your own package piece by loving piece. Some of the assembled boxes have themes such as San Francisco, Paris, wine pairings, romance etc.
the fleur de sel is a standout item, and if you can’t make up your mind it’s hard to go wrong with that. Nothing is really bad here in terms of the chocolate itself, but the aesthetics of the layout and packaging are superb. The staff are pretty good at the customer service, but they may may not be expertly knowledgeable about chocolate. Assisting you with packaging and the sale itself, fine, but making expert recommendations on difficult items? maybe not so much.
High end? You bethca. For example they sell a single piece of chocolate wrapped in gold foil. That is to say a chocolate actually wrapped in gold. If you are looking for a luxury item to impress, there you are.
Considering the luxury (price) of these items this may not be a product for everyone, however if local, relatively hard to find quality items with no regard to price is something you are into, this place is totally has it.

This is the best chocolate i’ve ever had. Maybe I have yet to experience more, but this is up there.

My fiancé brought me home a box of Recchiuti chocolates from an event at his work in Palo Alto, and at first glance I thought the packaging was beautiful & the prints on the chocolate of SF landmarks were so beautifully done. He bought me the box containing dark chocolates (my favorite) & they were the best chocolates I’ve had so far! Packaging ¹⁰⁄₁₀ & the chocolate itself is decadent and deserves a ¹⁰⁄₁₀!

Recchiuti shop in the Ferry Building SF’s Embarcadero area, was always our favorite chocolate in past 10 years until last Saturday, we were so disappointed, we bought 4 bars, 5 selected chocolates. They put those 5 chocolates in a small shopping bag, we did not pay attention until we opened at home and learned that they just stacked those 5 pieces in the bag, that was it, nothing to protect them from dry air, from dust, from whatever it can be exposed to. Recchiuti’s management team, why you spent so much time to create beautiful, wonderful chocolates then disrespect your own creation and made it less presentable in comparison with ordinary chocolates. What’s a shame…

With the cheerfully professional help from Masami, I was able to decide on my treasure pieces. Unfortunately, they did not standup to my favorite chocolates. The flavors were not stellar. For instance, I could barely detect the flavor of sesame in one of my choices. I like the sensation of a soft bite. That’s purely a personal preference. The enrobing chocolate on these were resistant to me.
The sprinkling of cocoa nibs on the outside of the bar was distracting and messy. The flavor was good, though.
Still hunting for the best chocolates (not bars) in America.

My favorite chocolatier! Every time I am in SF, I visit this place for some chocolate. Recchiuti has managed to perfect the tempering process. The chocolates here start to melt on your tongue the second they touch it. The chocolates are perfectly tempered, creamy, and of the highest quality. Truly the yardstick by which I measure other chocolates. This is number one for me :)

Great chocolate! Love dark chocolate so much, but the Indian female staff doesn’t seem very friendly. She acted impatient when i asked her thr questions about the chocolate. Would love to come back for the chocolate, but hesitant to come back because of the service.

The fleur de sel caramel is definitely the way to go here. While there are a ton of boxed sets out on display, you also have the option of ordering them individually and pay by the ounce. This makes for a great small treat while perusing the Ferry Building!

Don’t miss their key lime apple. It’s beautiful and delicious.
I also tried their vanilla marshmallow which was decent.

Wow, just wow. I am a die-​hard See’s Candies and Godiva fan and my friend stopped by this stall to pick up belated Valentine’s day chocolate. Stuffed from lunch I declined but she insisted. I’m glad she did!
Completely smooth, dreamy, succulent chocolate. I was satisfied after one piece. And the pieces themselves look like art. Can’t wait to come back and make my own selection.

My favorite chocolate store in SF. My favorites are the Force Noir and Fleur de Sel Caramel. Can’t wait to return!

Inside the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero, many edible treasures await; Recchiuti’s is home to many of them.
The staff are knowledgable and pleasant, and we learned a lot of their favorites while we were there. The giant glass counter is very conducive to ogling the à la carte confections, and they have a variety of prepackaged offerings, as well. I will always choose my own adventures and my own chocolates, piece by piece, when given the opportunity.
We chose and tried the bergamot tea, cardamom nougat, lavender vanilla, fleur du sel, lemon verbena, and tarragon grapefruit chocolates, and they came to us in an impossibly-​small navy shopping bag with rope handles. Everything was flavorful and quite excellent. I think my favorite was the lemon verbena, for its crisp tartness, but the cardamom was done beautifully and it’s hard to pick a true favorite. More scientific testing is required; send more chocolates to my face.
That quantity of by-​the-​piece chocolates set us back $ 10.40 — commensurate or less expensive per piece than other upscale chocolateries, but Recchiuti’s pieces are also much smaller than, say, Godiva, See’s, or Lindt. I wager that they are way more delicious, their flavor being concentrated and delivered in a beautiful package.

I got a box of assorted black chocolates as a gift. Great packaging, beautiful presentation, visually stunning chocolates.
But the chocolate itself just was not great. Yes, the ingredients are extremely high quality. Yes, everything is organic and friendly. But the flavor? Just … missed. Every combination I tried tasted almost literally pretentious.
I’m not a low-​brow chocolate loving guy. I don’t like supermarket chocolate. But I guess I don’t like this, either.

The most delicious chocolates! The only ones that could possibly be better were from Cacao Sampaka in Barcelona.
Originally received these as a gift from my Google rep. Beautiful packaging & great presentation. Once I opened them & tried them, I knew I received something special.
Handmade with many unique flavors (all of which were good), these chocolates were on another level.
During my visit to the city this weekend, I was happy to find out this store was in the ferry building. Naturally I stopped over & got a few things.
As many people have mentioned, it’s pricey but you get what you pay for.

I’ve done quite a few reviews of places in the Ferry Building SF’s Embarcadero area, but of course this is because it is filled with excellent options.
Recchiuti Confections is among those excellent options. Of course, the shop here is only one outlet for these treats.
The wife and I love the rich, velveteen texture of their chocolates — as well as the unique and distinctive flavor combinations. This isn’t the first time we’ve had confections that have gone for more adventurous combos, but I think Recchiuti are among the best at doing so… with items like Star Anise & Pink Peppercorn, Lemon Verbena, Kona Coffee, Sesame Nougat etc.
Even their take on a «crisped rice» chocolate bar (which in their case uses toasted sesame) add a distinct, delicious twist to the flavor. I also like their single-​source chocolates like Sur de Lago (all the chocolate is from one farm/​region) as well as the ethos behind it.
Highly recommended.

I’ve heard good things about this place, and yes it’s pricey but definitely worth it if you’re looking to divulge on some chocolate heaven or want to splurge a little. So why the 3 stars?
In the 15 minutes I spent in there just trying to look around which ones I wanted, 3 different sales associates came up to me… and because their store is compact I’m pretty sure they all knew that I had already been helped… so yeah, it was a little overbearing. I ended up buying the red wine pairing and the two sauces, about $ 50 or so.
Don’t think I’ll be stepping back here anytime soon though… Remember folks… you’re selling CHOCOLATES… NOT cars.

Anyone with a penchant for the sweets can certainly appreciate all that Recchiuti Confections is trying to do. They are by no means no regular chocolate /​candy shop, but a next level establishment featuring confections of the palate pleasing kind. Not only are these sweets beautiful to look at, they taste wonderful as well.
They make for the ultimate gift. Pricey all around, these aren’t sold in bulk but small, intricate pieces that would work as art on its own. Since Recchiuti is located at the Ferry Building, there is understandably a touristy component to the experience. Even with window shopping, these treats are as impressive as they come. Thank goodness for samples.
Chocolate novice needing recommendations? Few can argue the Fleur de Sel Caramel isn’t quality. Same goes for the maple bacon toffee, which is so legit that it’s hard not to just eat one. The cherry jelly is a nice chocolate alternative, with just enough tartness to merit an order or two. If all else fails, their hot chocolate is one of the best I’ve had.
Chocolate fans or not, this is a must see stall at the Ferry. Plus, the nice staff are like chocolate sommeliers, experts of cocoa in all forms. Learn a little something, sample a little more, and you might have yourself a fabulous gift that few can get anywhere else.

The chocolates from SF’s beloved chocolatier, Michael Recchiutti, are classic and just plain good. His outpost in the Ferry Building is a must for me every time I’m in the Embarcadero area. His collection is heavy on the dark chocolate, with several praline pieces — which is right up my alley!
Here are my chocolate notes:
Single-​origin varietals
There are 4 pieces in this series:
Ecuador — earthy, medium bold and creamy; has hints of berry and tobacco.
Venezuela (Sur de Lago) — slighly less sweet than the Ecuador varietal. Nutty caramel-​like flavor.
Columbia — roasted, creamy, and less fruity than the Ecuador varietal. Berry and burgundy tones
Madagascar — the most complex and also my favorite of the 4 varietals — earthy, bold, a lot of character.
Select bonbons:
Kona Coffee
dark milk choco ganache infused with 100% Hawaiian Kona coffee beans
edges the «Coffee and Donut» piece from Chocolatier Blue
the ganache is creamy, earthy and flavorful — just like Kona coffee should be.
Bergamot
70% dark with ceylon tea and bergamot oil
Nice smooth taste. Starts really subtle, then the bergamot flavor starts to settle in. It’s got a little bit of spice without being too overpowering.
Lemon verbena
refreshing and light, a delightful blend of herb, fruit and dark chocolate.
i give this a slight edge over the bergamot piece
Star anise
interesting blend of creamy ganache and slightly spicy star anise.
i like this novelty piece, it’s bold, but refreshing
Piedmont hazelnut
a whole hazelnut in creamy milk choco — this is the piece that resonates with my palate — my fave of his collection!
my only recommendation is to also offer a variation using a dark chocolate shell — now that would be perfect
Burnt caramel
this is the piece with his namesake. I’m guessing its the one that people keep coming back for.
creamy, slightly bitter chocolate ganache blended with salted caramel and wrapped in a dark earthy choco shell — what’s not to like here?
Fleur de sel
gooey salted caramel wrapped in dark chocolate shell
it’s a classic and it’s a winner. ‘Nuff said
i like it slightly better than the burnt caramel (which is also good). Probably one of my fave choco caramels.
Sesame nougat
milk choco caramel ganache blended with crunchy sesame nougat
I like the mix of earthy creamy choco with crunchy nougatine bits and a hint of turrones. One of my faves in his collection
OVERALL VERDICT:
Recchiutti is in my top 3 fave Bay Area chocolatiers (the other 2: Nuubia Chocolat and Christoper Elbow). Must-​haves from his collection: Piedmont hazelnut, Fleur de sel, Kona coffee, Sesame Nougat and the Madagascar varietal.
