Progressive Grounds is a jewel of a café in the neighborhood around San Francisco General Hospital. We serve coffee, tea, smoothies, Mitchell’s ice cream, wraps, sandwiches, salads and delectable baked goods. There is a nice selection of food and drink, which is good if you need a workspace for a few hours. Other coffee shops in the area have better coffee, but that’s not what PG is about.
Big problem: the staff is hostile. I don’t care too much about whether staff are friendly, but the staff here make me feel downright unwelcome. As a result, even though I live half a block away, I come here less than once a year. I usually go five blocks away to Starbucks instead.

I never do reviews but this place has the worst sandwhiches. Ordered a grilled chicken sandwich was so plain I could’ve done it at home. Didn’t even have chicken in it which means probably didnt even get my order right after I asked the cashier its a grilled chicken sandwich right? Worst café EVER. Has basic stuff you can make at home. Save your money.

I was pleasantly surprised by this coffee shop! The front of the place is super cozy and good for chilling with friends, and the back area is like study hall — lots of people working on their laptops. I thought the coffee was just ok, but I would definitely come back for the ambience.

Very cute café with wifi in nice location, however, I am giving only one star because the staff ruins it. They are super unfriendly. I am sure a lot of nice men and women would love to have their job.

I used to live right around the corner from this place. I was so excited to have a coffee shop with such a big menu right near me… until I tried it. I revisited it today and realized why I hate this place. It draws you in with tons of seating and workspace, then delivers half-​assed, depressing service — I guess I’d be depressed if I was a 40-​year-​old mediocre barista too.
I ordered the Scrambled Eggs with Ham and Veggies (see picture). What I received was a bland, depressing mess. The eggs were unseasoned and soggy (how?), topped with a thick slice of partially melted cheddar, which was sweating all over the eggs. On the side, a couple slices of store bought, sandwich meat, a couple pieces of cucumber and tomato and some red onion weakly thrown on there was if onion has ever been considered a «side dish».
I’m no food snob, but dear God! This is San Francisco, step your game the eff up!

Great café. I went to grab a breakfast sandwich and some coffee while I was waiting at the vet up the street. The coffee was good quality, plenty of bakery option, and a nice assortment of wraps and sandwiches. I had the Egg and Kafta bagel and if was delicious and unique. Only down side was the bagel was a little hard and not easy to cut in half. I will definitely go back the next time I am waiting at the vet.

One of my favorite cafes of the year. Solid free WiFi. Cozy seating — you get a choice of wood chairs or cushioned banquettes along two walls. Music isn’t too loud, though they seem to play a set of upbeat songs in Spanish on repeat. Surprisingly, there are no fruit flies buzzing around the pastry box but they do occasionally buzz around the seating area.
People love the Eggs Kefta (moroccon ground beef sausage) here: open faced bagel, butter, eggs scrambled with kefta, plus melted cheese. Coffee is not stellar but you won’t pay more than $ 3 for a cappuccino /​latte.

Decent café in the mission district in SF. Great place to do work.
Came here on a Friday afternoon to do work with a colleague. Ordered the turkey basil bagel sandwich and a latte. Both were ok. The latté was made in about 10 seconds and there was not enough foam.
They have free wifi and lots of plugs near the windows so it’s a good place to sit and do work. It gets a bit windy and cold though, and they like to keep the doors and windows open. We asked them to close the door but they needed to keep it open because they said the kitchen gets hot.
I may come back to do work here. If you’re looking for a place to do work in the mission that has free wifi and plugs, this is a great place!

I got the grilled salmon wrap which was pretty good, the lemon sauce was a definite plus. They have a really good selection of wraps and a lot of tables inside to sit down/​get some work done. It also looked like the have a good smoothie selection and someone I was with ordered a hot chocolate, which smelled DELICIOUS.

A cozy little café, which is great for when you want a break from the cold industrial interior and latte art of the other popular coffee places in the area. It has comfy seats and free wifi.
It feels like they’re more about food than just coffee. I ordered a coffee drink, and it seemed like they were confused about how to make a cappuccino, and kind of gave me something that was a huge latte thing with a blob of foam. It was very good, but if you’re particular about your espresso drink, this place might not be for you.

Came here on a Wednesday late afternoon. A homey café feel to it. The coffee is average. They make their iced coffee by making hot coffee and sticking it in the fridge (not bad, but not as good as cold brew)
The blueberry scone I had was dry and crumbly. In addition, The water tastes pretty heavily chlorinated. Free wi-​fi is a bonus.
Ambience=4 awesome décor but the Spanish music didn’t quite jive with the vibe of the café

I love this place. Has a great neighborhood feel. It’s not the «cool cat» Mission Coffee Shop. Which makes it so appealing. Good food selection, and all the double expresso’s you can handle!
One word of advice:
Always THANK the staff, they work long hard hours and deserve our respect!

A nice quiet coffee shop to get some work done if you’re around the area.
Progressive Grounds ended up being my coffee study shop for the day one day because I found a parking spot near it…(this is life in the city).
Overall it was a pretty nice place though, I had a black coffee and a hot green tea (really just a tea bag and some water, overpriced). But it was a pretty nice place, their wifi worked (for the most part) and it was a little homey inside.
I can’t say that there’s too much standing out for them, which in this city of a million different coffee places, ends up being a weakness in itself.
They do close very early though (to my surprise and dissapointment) around ~6:00pm on most days if I remember correctly, so just be aware!

What I believed would be just a trip to get «another» coffee beverage morphed into something a bit more surprisingly satisfying. Was one of those days I had a late work day (we’re talking 2 — 10 pm), and I commute south to work. Figured I might as well make the most of living in the Mission district for lunch, eh?
Well, I thought this would only be my drink spot, already planning on a tasty Iced Mocha Bianca. That was before I saw their extensive food menu! Tuna Salad Sandwich had my vote, and both flavorful and toasty it was. Much more than I was expecting from a coffee shop — above and beyond!
I understand they also have live performances in there occasionally, whether it be theatrical, musical or otherwise. Don’t miss this place up: it’s well-​connected for viewing local community arts there!

This place was awesome. Outskirts of mission and parking was no problem. A rustic interior and plenty spacious.
The Kefta melt was delicious. Moroccan beaf with some sort of tomato purée that was sweet and tasted like ketchup. Nice chat on pita bread. The side salad was ok. I had a bottle of beer that was 6 months expired but I don’t think that affects beer.
Got a white chocolate mocha on the way out that was foamy and delicious. I’d come here again. My fiancée has the pita bread with hummus and seemed to enjoy it.

This is a hole in the wall coffee shop located in the Mission. Actually, their signage is quite poor — their yellow banner had the name of their shop in small print at the BOTTOM, and the circular sign wasn’t facing us at a good angle, so it was a bit tricky to find this shop.
The first thing my friend said was that the hot drinks menu looked quite «epic» while on the iced drinks menu, the first item was «iced coffee» and it just went downhill from there. The hot drinks section definitely seems to be more varied.
I got a mocha except I never actually got it — they made a latte by mistake. I didn’t feel like waiting for them to make another drink, so I just took the latte. They were kind enough to refund me the price difference in cash though.
The latte foam was just foam. It wasn’t that rich velvety foam that we all know and love (ok, I sincerely hope it’s not just me). The espresso itself was okay though — very smooth and not acidic.

PG is close to my apartment, has free Wifi, and offers a solid drink menu with decent food options. Blah, blah blah blah.
I’m telling you though — their soy chai is spicy as heck — dare I say toothsome in the same breath? It is true that some of the employees are not friendly. But who needs smiley waitstaff when you’re just reeling, sip after fiery sip? They oughtta consider chalking on a few pepper symbols next to it on the menu, you know like at Thai restaurants. I am most delighted by this elixir, and if your idea of a respectable soy chai involves candy-​sweet milk with a pinch of humdrum American «allspice», just order something else.
