L’s Caffe

My partner chose this restaurant since it had meat options for him and vegan for me. We dined here for breakfast and overall our experience was OK. I ordered a green tea which was served so hot that I couldn’t begin drinking it until we had left the restaurant – I did not care for this as I like to drink my tea while eating. I also ordered an everything bagel with vegan cream cheese and it was average overall. First, they didn’t put much cream cheese on the bagel, and second, the cream cheese had a strange taste. I’m not sure I’d come back on my own.

This is my regular morning coffee spot. It’s cute, convenient and the service is great. The staff is friendly and makes an effort to get to know their customers.

Black coffee and a ham and cheese quiche… cheap, fast and tasty. They also have a wine bar though I sadly wasn’t there for that. Next time…

The ladies who run L’s really have created a gem here. The atmosphere, food, coffee, and drinks are all done well and taste spectacular. I average eating a meal here 2 – 3 times a week and have never had a bad experience. Highly recommend this spot if your in the area. Bön appetite!

Went here for breakfast, ordered a breakfast sandwich and a special.
The place seemed to be a complete lack of urgency or care. It wasn’t busy, yet our order took over 20 min (which is more than enough time to cook eggs and bacon), breakfast sandwich bagel was burnt, eggs were cooked the completely wrong way, and the dishes came out 5 minutes apart.
Tables were dirty, there were no napkins set out. It just wasn’t a great experience. The food is decent, but not good enough to make up for all the other letdowns.

Much better service than sugarlump, where I was served by the grumpiest old man who didn’t exchange a word with me throughout the entire transaction. L’s has friendlier service and the café itself has more personality

Ahh vegan cream cheese! Through a series of unfortunate events I was on antibiotics with strict orders for no dairy — so what do I start craving? A lox bagel with cream cheese! Of course I thought this was a pipe dream but I figured I’d stroll through Unilocal and see what the beautiful city of San Francisco had to offer me and that’s where I stumbled upon this gem. I got the lox bagel with vegan cream cheese and my boyfriend got some regular breakfast sandwich also on a bagel. Within the first bite I was hooked! The cream cheese is absolutely amazing, you can’t even tell the difference! I definitely plan on going back and even without the need to avoid dairy I’ll be ordering the VCC; check it out you won’t regret it. :)

The food and service were amazing – let alone the atmosphere.
Beautiful art and decorations made this café even cuter and wonderful to eat at. You definitely want to dine-​in if you can.
I got the BLT in a bagel and WOW! An explosion of flavors. My mouth was dancing around and my tummy happy and content.
If you’re vegetarian there is also a great selection of veggie sandwiches.
My server was a wonderful woman too. Very kind and soft-​spoken and pleasure nonetheless.
Definitely going back.

L’s Caffe has one waiting up some steps to order. no doubt this used to be an house at some time.

This place has great breakfast. I ordered a BLT bagel $ 6.25 and small Chai for $ 3.00. My food came fast and tasted great.
The interior wasn’t the cutest but it was a perfect quiet workspace.

Cute little sandwich shop serving a nice selection of both breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Awesome specials, and a great selection of accompaniments. The service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxing.
So why not five stars?
Because it’s a pretty spendy sandwich. I’m guessing this is because of the fruit salad and potato salad that come with every sandwich, but I’d rather have my sammy ala carte and not have to fork over almost $ 13 with tip, not including drink.

Came here to try their banana caramel french toast, chai tea. Ol’man ol’man, I was pleased. Everything is freshly made to order, salads are made the day of and the ladies are so nice, pleasant. I must say I will be back to try their cobb salad and some more of their french toast!

I stumbled upon L’s by accident, wanting to use the restroom and ended up in love with how cozy and welcoming it is. Plus the salad was delish and Gabby was so patient with how indecisive I am. Oh and my favorite is that it looks so clean. I’m a new regular here!

Stopped in. There’s wifi and the person running the café is super sweet. Ridiculously helpful. Small quaint location. Pretty good place to sit and get some paperwork done before work starts. Place seems clean and the tables are decently lit.
I order the tuna melt at the cashiers lady’s opinion. Decent price especially at SF prices. $ 9
Damn. That is one large tuna melt. They must’ve cut the loaf themselves. It also comes with fruit and a potato salad! Definitely worth the price. Oh, yeah. It’s delicious too.
Yupp. I’m four starring this place. Maybe a fifth next time I try the place.

Came with a group of four for Sunday brunch. Two of us got the special — Belgian waffles, bacon and 2 eggs at 8.99 and two of us got the eggs Benedict at 11.99. We waited probably 20m for the special to arrive, and another 20m for the eggs Benedicts, which was a ridiculous wait. It was pretty empty with only one other table so not sure why we has to wait so long.
The food itself: the eggs Benedict were not the greatest. The ham was thick which felt strange to bite into with the soggy combination of the bread, spinach, and eggs. The fruit given weren’t ripe enough. It was a disappointment and was definitely overpriced. The waffles were nothing special and not crunchy enough.
Ambience: it was a bit run down and the seats looked like they were going to come off soon.
Service was pretty decent.
Overall: it was alright, but don’t think we will be coming back anytime soon.

This is my go to spot for breakfast, coffee and shared space. I have a pretty serious desire for their BLT on a jalapeño bagel several times a week. They have a chipotle cream cheese that just makes it heaven and it’s totally affordable.
And speaking of doing it right, the people who work here are perfect. They are friendly, easy to talk to and generally make me feel like a neighbor. I live one block away, but some of the spots right outside my door don’t always do that.
A posh «laptop and headphone» coffee shop sits directly across the street but I do my work and writing here because it’s a community rather than a collection of silent strangers, and I actually do work in tech just like everyone inside «The Lump.» I guess I’m the kind of tech guy who wants less tech and more people in this life. I don’t want to harsh the Lumpers, but it’s nice to have a homey spot I can call my own.
Interestingly, with both locations seemingly thriving, this spot on 24^th street might be one small example of the integrated coexistence of both the corporate, worked to the bone newcomers and the Mission’s valuable cultural essence. I know I’m putting my patronage behind L’s, and I encourage everyone to give them a try.

I came here and ordered the breakfast burrito and was appalled by what I received for $ 6. The breakfast burritos here are the pre-​made somewhere else, meaning not fresh and full of preservatives. I expected more for a $ 6 breakfast burrito, I’m going to head back to St. Francis and pay a couple more dollars for a breakfast burrito that isn’t pre-​made and heated up in the microwave for me.

I had breakfast here early on Sunday morning. This was my first ever visit there; I had passed it many times in the past, but finally got around to checking it out in the present (which ended up being a good thing, too).
L’s Caffé* is basically a friendly, family-​run, neighborhood coffeehouse. Their weekday menu looked to be the standard bagels and sandwiches that are usually offered at most coffee joints; however, they do have a special «Weekend Menue» (sic ~ no points are ever deducted for mispelingz) that offers several good choices.
I went with the «Banana-​caramel French Toast ~ Texas style bread dipped in the L’s banana and spice batter, topped with fresh bananas and caramel», and it was not on the menu (or «Menue» even), but they were nice enough to make me a side order of homefried potatoes (because two extra large slices of French toast oozing with thick caramel sauce and bananas are never enough carbohydrates for one person). It was all really rather good.
The big find for me was that they serve The Organic Coffee co.® as their house coffee. I am not sure if I had ever had any Coffee from this local Northern California roastery before, but it was excellent.

*Not that it really matters, but the correct spelling of «Coffee» (or «Coffeehouse») in Italiano is «Caffè» (o «Caffè»)… con l’accento grave, non l’accento acuto. Again, no points are ever deducted for errori di ortografia, Miss Tori.

The seats are highly uncomfortable, it looks run-​down, and the prices are a bit higher than other coffee shops. I wouldn’t consider this a great café; this is an okay café.
If you want a place with more solidarity here’s the place for you; they don’t attract as many customers as many other cafés

Over and Underwhelmed…
Pros: Comfortable ambiance. Convenient location (once you find parking). Nice people.
Cons: If they take reservations for 14 people, they should be able to serve them. Salt in the soup was a killer.
Suggestion: If you’re alone or part of a twosome, threesome or foursome… L’s is probably great.

About once a month, a group of 6 or 7 couples gets together for a social outing. For November, we decided to go on a walking tour of mural art in the Mission District of SF. As usual, the main question became «where should we eat»? The person in charge of this event asked the organizer of the tour «what restaurant in the area would you recommend for 12 – 14 people»? The answer was L’s Caffe.
— Dining Room: Kind of unusual, but so is the neighborhood (depending on your point of reference. Our’s is San Jose and Los Gatos). There are tables for dining on the left side of L’s and chairs for reading/​laptop work/​schmoozing on the right. If you’re not at a table and want to order something, go to the counter a few steps above the main floor.
The room itself seemed warm and comfortable… like an old easy chair at home. Nothing fancy or fastidious, but interesting in a funky 60s-​70s sort of way.
— Menu: L’s serves breakfast, lunch and coffee/​snacks. We arrived at 1245 PM, so it was clearly time for lunch. The menu focused on sandwiches and salads with 1 soup of the day.
— Food: Hit and miss. I started with corn chowder which had lots of nice corn, but about a bucket of salt. My wife tried some and made a nasty face (not her usual nice one). We both had the Grilled Vegetable Panini which was excellent. It was accompanied by a small potato salad and a small fruit salad.
Reactions from our friends were varied. Most gave a thumbs up, but there were at least 2 detractors. One person asked for a roast beef sandwich without the cheese. However, it came without anything except roast beef, so she asked for «at least the onions» and received good size bowl of roasted onions. Another person, generally easy to please, said his sandwich was only «fair».
I usually have beer with this type of meal, but just went with the water which was placed on each table in big bottles. Unfortunately, I believe it came from a less than reputable source, such as the toilet. It had an odd taste and even odder aftertaste. That beer looked mighty good, but its time had past.
— Wine and Beer: The choices were limited, but they did have 3 beers on tap (light, medium and dark).
— Service: I bet it’s normally very good for groups of 1, 2, 3 or 4 people… but we had 14. It took 30 minutes for the soup to arrive and another 20 minutes for the first 8 people to be served. 4 more got their plates 5 minutes later…1 got his 10 minutes later and the final sandwich arrived 15 minutes after the first 8 people were served. Many were done by that time. Why the staggered pace? I saw the kitchen and it’s probably just not big enough to handle 14 dishes at one time. On the plus side, our server was friendly and helpful, but some things were beyond her control.
— Price and Value: Very reasonable. Our soup and sandwiches were $ 30, including tax.
— Bathroom: There’s one. It’s locked and the key (for customers?) is attached to a long ladel by the counter. The room was small, but relatively clean. The dispenser for paper towels seemed to be out of commission.
— Parking: If you know the Mission District, you know the answer. Not too good. Either you get real lucky, find a space and have 20 quarters for the meter… park far away and walk… or move into the neighborhood.
If I lived near the Mission District, my wife and I would probably go to L’s Caffe for lunch. However, for groups of more than 4, we’d most likely look elsewhere.
