Progress Cleaners

Great service and high quality. Out of all the places I’ve been to, these guys have had among the most consistent quality. My shirts always come back in good shape, the collars well cleaned, and they have never caused any damage to any of my clothes. I see some reviews about damaged buttons from around 2009 and that’s a big worry of mine, but it seems like they’ve resolved that and I can testify that that problem has not occurred in the many times that I’ve been there.
Service is always great too and they’re very helpful, but really the important part is that the quality of their work has been the most consistently good.

Absolutely awful in every way. They ruined a dress of mine worth over $ 400 by leaving an ink pen in the machine. Refused to pay for it or give the dress back to me. I asked them not to treat with silk with chemicals so I could dye it but they ignored me and ruined the material. The female owner is abusive to customers and to her son who runs the desk. Absolute nightmare!!!

Best Service in town, the best prices, and Sam and Betty at the counter are super nice.
Watch out for that parking meter outside though! I like their eco friendly solution, doesn’t snag my clothes!

I highly recommend Progress Cleaners. They do an excellent job, are very courteous and eager to please and they are reasonably priced compared to others. After I moved from LA to San Francisco two years ago I tried a lot of cleaners and laundry places in Lower Pac Heights and the surrounding areas. I liked this one the best.
Sam goes out of his way to please. He kept a record of how I wanted collars ironed and it was done every time so I never needed to say it twice. He rushed to get things ready if I needed them quickly.
Progress is very dependable and nice.

Had my suit altered: pants needed to be hammed and the jacket was a little too big. They did a great job with both and the suit fits me very nicely

I used to go to European Cleaners, in the Safeway parking lot mall a block away, and Progress Cleaners beats them hands down in all respects. In comparison, the collars are better pressed, the cleaning more thorough, store much cleaner, communication better, and service much better. And the price is the same.
It amazes me what a difference there can be between two cleaners within a block of each other; it seems that the probably-​hourly employees at European have the «don’t care much about doing a good job» attitude, while Sammy at Progress has an owner’s attitude of providing good personalized service with a smile.
This isn’t to say all is perfect; the alterations are not as sturdy as they could be, and occasionally collars aren’t pressed just right. But I can tolerate those minor issues much more easily than walking a few blocks out of my way to the more expensive cleaners further north.

Directly across the street, Sam and his family have been our only cleaners for the last 4 years with suits and specialty items always delivered crisp, clean and on time, if not sooner with a little coaxing. Thanks Sam. : – )

I live in the hood and I get all of my dry cleaning done here. That includes my button down’s, skirts, silk dresses, etc… I’m surprised it’s not rated higher because 1) I’ve never had any issues when I get my clothes back, 2) Sam, the owner, is the nicest guy on Fillmore, and 3) it’s conveniently located on the way to the gym and Safeway.

This is the worst alteration experience I EVER had!
I brought them one pair of pants I wanted hemmed. It was $ 15, which would’ve been reasonable if the job was at least decent. Instead of sewing the pants all the way around, the seamstress only sewed a couple of stitches on each of the pant legs. Although the length is good, I’m pretty sure the stitches will come out after just one wash, which means I’ll have to pay someone else to redo the job. I haven’t tried their dry cleaning, but I wouldn’t go back to this place even though it’s only a couple of blocks from my house.

Wow, this place doesn’t get many good reviews does it? Something about buttons… Fortunately, they’ve never took out any of my buttons [knock on wood]! So they guy, apparently his name is Sam– super dee duper nice. He’s so friendly and he always suggests how he can «wash» them. For instance, I would be like okay I want to dry clean this (because I think it looks/​feels like it needs to be) but he goes oh yeah, well this doesn’t need to be dry cleaned. So I end up saving up a dollar or two. They also washed my blanket really well with a good, clean smell to it. They also do same day service but I always just pick it up some other time since I’m usually in no rush. The location is right near my apt so it’s convenient.

Buttons… I don’t know how one does it, but on multiple occasions, they have broken the buttons on my shirts. And these are nice dress shirts!
At first I thought it might be the shirt, but it’s happened to multiple shirts — different brands. And without the buttons it really doesn’t matter if you have a crisp ironed shirt at work or any other formal event.
Does anyone know how to sew?

Super service at this dry cleaners! Sam always greets you with a smile even when he has a line out the door. They are always on time with your cleaning and they have always done an outstanding job. When you go in they ask you detailed questions regarding your items and they give you your receipt– which you must keep to claim your items… I don’t think that is too much to ask.
The prices are very competitive with most other cleaners but I choose to give them my business.
One thing they can improve on is the hemming/​altering. I’ve had a few items altered before that I was not impressed with but my last item that I had hemmed exceeded my expectations– maybe they hired someone new…

What a nice place. The owner Sam is hella nice and friendly, and has a really gentle aura.
I got some shirts laundered and a couple of ties dry cleaned here and was pleased with the result.
Plus it’s just down the street from where I live, so it’s very convenient for me.

I really hate to write this review because the staff is very nice. But they’ve fried/​cracked most of the buttons on all of my shirts. And they even replaced a couple of buttons with ones that did not match in color or size without telling me.
At first I thought it was a fluke because my dress shirts were on the cheap… so I tried them again when I had some new, really nice shirts tailor made. Same result. Very frustrating.

Updated on 6÷19÷2007. This place not only can’t clean for shit, they also can’t hem pants for shit, too. I went to this place a while back & finally picked up my jeans from being hemmed. When it was time to wear them, I noticed the hem was crooked. So, I decided to go back to get the hem corrected. However, the owner (older middle-​aged Asian lady) raised her voice & started yelling at me and screaming things at me like I’m too picky. So, I said I want a refund if you can’t fix this, I’m going to take these pants somewhere else. Then, this lady started screaming at the top of her lungs even louder at me again repeating that I’m too picky & too cheap. This place has terrible service, can’t do their basic job of dry cleaning & altering clothes, & they angrily shout in your face if you’re not satisfied with their poor service.
Word of Advice: DO NOT COME HERE. Just come here if you literally want to waste your money on make-​pretend dry-​cleaning.
The good: The guy that works here, Sammy, is extremely friendly. He is always smiling & always remembers your name. Location is awesome, since it’s in my hood.
The norm: Prices are kinda high… or standard for SF. Shirts & Sweaters: $ 3.75, pants: $ 4, Coats: $ 9.
The bad: They basically can’t dry clean for shit. I sent a skirt to get dry cleaned. When I was ready to wear it to work, I realized the same stain that I specifically told them to remove was still there. So, I went back there & told them the stain was still there. They were very apologetic & told me it would be available when I pick up the rest of my clothes. So, I picked up my clothes & trusted that the stain would be gone. Again… when I was planning on wearing it to work, that familiar stain was still there. On trip #3 for this same skirt, I told them the stain is still there, «Please remove it.» The same response, it will be ready when you pick up the rest of your clothes. Ok, finally the stain disappeared!!! Now… I checked out the rest of my clothes that I got cleaned there, I told them specifically (again) to remove a specific stain on this blouse. This stain is still there!!! Also, I got a black coat cleaned with lots of lint cleaned here. The coat was cleaned, however there is still a lot of lint on this dammn black coat. I expected not only should this coat be dry cleaned, but also be lint-​free, too. This is just extremely frustrating. Why can’t they just do their job???
I really wanted this place to be «my dry cleaners,» since their location is very convenient for me & I like that small mom & pop business. However, Progress Cleaners simply can’t dry clean very well.

i had a blanket cleaned here and two weeks later it still had that «cleaners» smell. very impressive.
