Precise Chevron

This place was conveniently in the right place at the right time. Easy access and reasonable prices. I honestly thought I was going to pay ALOT more because I was in the city but I DIDN’T always glad when I don’t have to over spend.

Ladies (and gentlemen), if you are looking for an honest mechanic, I *highly* recommend Guy at Precise Chevron. I have a fifteen year old Volkswagen Beetle and, over the years, I have had my share of good and bad mechanics.
I knew I was in the right hands when I was greeted warmly on the phone and the woman on the phone worked well with me to find an appointment time that worked. Upon bringing the car in, Guy, the mechanic, was attentive, thoughtful, and listened to my concerns /​issues about the car.
A few hours later, Guy called me and walked me through my different options for resolution. Guy was extremely fair on the price. I ended up calling a few places for a second opinion after getting the work done (out of curiosity) and Guy was the cheapest, and was also the fastest in being able to accommodate getting the work done.
On top of that, Guy did not charge me for a number of checks /​small fixes that he ended up doing for me. This business is run well — you are definitely in good hands with Guy and the rest of his team!

This is now the WORST gas station in the Sunset District. With sometimes third of the pumps not working. I know, it’s only one of the 3 at each pump station. But it causes a back-​up and frustrated drivers.
It’s also pretty run down. I used to like this place.

Guy is super friendly and helpful. It’s nice to have a neighborhood station we can rely on.

Needed a smog check
Went on a Saturday morning at 10 and was done in 15 min. Great service

When you find a good, honest and capable mechanic, you keep him (or her!). I cannot recommend Guy highly enough. He is pleasant, patient, and very very fair. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

This is my second review for a gas station… two more reviews than I ever thought I’d write for a gas station. The guy working here is really nice. It was an extremely cold evening and my car decided to give me the low tire pressure warning (boo!) so I took the car over to Chevron to add some air. The guy here saw me pull up and turned the air on for me without my even asking! Of course I took too long measuring the pressure in my tires and the air pump stopped working on me and the guy, noticing that I’d stopped pumping my tires, dropped what he was doing and started it up again for me. I know this is kind of a small thing, but I was really appreciative of his kindness on a very cold winter evening.

I hope the owners know they will lose car repair customers if and when Guy ever leaves. I’ve been coming here since the 80’s. All because of his honesty and excellent car care. He tells it like it is and delivers!
I had one below average repair experience when Guy wasn’t there. I’ll be a gonner when he’s gone!

I am helpless when it comes to cars. So when I came to Precise for a smog check, I also needed them to put on some new windshield wipers I bought to replace the old ones –and– an oil change, –and– to check my tire pressure, because the front ones seemed a little off (and I’m bad at matching pressure if I refill with air). After I had told who looked like the head mechanic all my requests, he kinda laughed at my helplessness (in good fun) and said he could get everything done in under an hour.
From calling the day before, I knew to come right when they opened at 8. Probably why service really did end up being less than an hour. He told me my back windshield wiper was completely bald– the blade was non-​existent. (makes sense because I haven’t replaced it since I’ve had the car, almost 15 years ago) Said it would be an additional charge for the part, and I didn’t mind so I said «go ahead.»
But they didn’t end up charging me any more than my initial estimate. Good guys! They deserve more reviews. I’m glad to spread the word and will return for my next scheduled maintenance check.

This Chevron is cheaper at times compared to the one on Irving and 19^th. If I have enough gas and enough time, I’d drive further to go to Irving to double check.

Brought my old 94 Honda to Guy for a smog check. Needed to go to a test only /​gold shield station. I had problems passing on the previous test. I replaced some parts then talked with Guy. He asked what my previous results were and what the problem could be. After talking he said let’s run it. It should pass with the work I did. He ran it and it was all good. He even checked my tire pressure no charge. Price for the smog check was 69.95 or so with cert. A little high but a lot of shops are charging that now. Fastest smog check I’ve had with the best service.

Took my ’05 RSX in for a smog check. My engine light was on and the mechanic (Kenneth I think) said he would do all the inspections to find out what was wrong. I left my car there for the day and throughout the process, he was very communicative. He clearly stated the issues, what could be done to fix it (including costs), and also did a general inspection of the car. In the end, the issues were resolved, smog check completed.
I truly appreciate the professionalism and communication standards here.

I highly recommend Precise Chevron. I have been taking my cars there for over 10 years. Guy is the best. Being a woman I am so afraid of car guys making up charges. I have had nothing but beater cars. I took my 14 year old Subaru for a «check-​up» recently. They checked everything and told me nothing was wrong with it. They didn’t even charge me. They only charge for what is really needed. Honest and on-​time work.

I’ve never Unilocaled… until today! I can’t say enough great things about this shop, and John, the manager, in particular! I have an older Caddy that didn’t pass smog the first time, then I found this shop, they are a Gold Shield Station… they were wonderful, they diagnosed the problems, and even when they found out my car was too long for their rack, John found a shop that would help me! My 8 months of stress has ended! Thank you John!

These guys are great! I needed a smog check for my 2000 Audi. DMV said I had to go to a Test Only or Gold Shield Station. What? Precise Chevron came up as closest station to my house. They were helpful on the phone and asked if they could help me when I pulled up in my car. They have a couple chairs to sit in while you wait.
Good prices too, none of this wrangling around with certificate fees, etc.
This is my new smog check place!

I say Sheck Them Out!
They can do and have done intense mechanical work for me and my family FOR YEARS. Since my last new car, I wouldn’t even dream of taking my baby to the dealer’s now, without running it by Currie’s Chevron first. I trust Currie’s implicitly and avoid the dealer, a truly suboptimal experience, in matters that don’t endanger the warranty.
Besides skills for fairly heavy mechanical work the staff is polite too.
They are also fast and usually beat their time estimate. Dollar estimates are ONCE IN A WHILE slightly lower, by 2−5%, rarely higher and NEVER substantially higher.
Above all, they have shown the utmost respect, patience, and courtesy to my parents when taking care of their cars — always giving them rides when the car was being serviced. They drive to their house, pick up the car for service, and deliver it on completion. This counts big time for me. Only once I think a front counter person, may have taken some time to be trained properly, but all businesses experience this.
And what do we give businesses that treat seniors with such exemplary conduct? SIX, not five stars (My first 6 rating).
My only complaints? First the gas is a little high.
Secondly Currie’s tries to keep your bill low by correcting only what ails your car now, by assessing how badly you need the car, what the cost and risk is of your NOT replacing a part. Not sure if this is an accurate example but here goes anyway:
Instead of saying, «While we work on the head, we can also do the timing chain, which will be due in another X miles,» they say, «Based on your driving, you can really wait on the timing chain 6 months or more. We know you need the car badly now.» If we’re wrong and we need to do it earlier, we’ll give your car first priority and a good break on the service.” In a good economy you want to say «- — - — it, fix it all, so i dont have to think about it for two years!» but we’re no longer a good economy.
They have never been wrong. Including my parents, we’ve taken our last four or five cars there.

Usually more expensive than other Chevrons but its on 19^th so its convenient.

Need a tire plug? This is da place. 22 bucks. Ask for Wilson. Super helpful, he says he’s plugged «thousands» of tires when he’s not street racing his lowered Honda Accord scraper. Five stars for the tire plug. One star for gas prices.
Update: Wilson hooked me up again the other day. Another screw in the tire, another plug. So reliable and quick.
