Peter Panos Bespoke Tailors

Peter made my now-husband’s suit from scratch. It was kind of fun to go through so many swatches and samples for an hour. Then he took the measurments and two visits later the suit was ready and just so splendid and elegant.
He is not cheap but, if you are looking for elegant and proper, he is the person to go to.
Also, he has a nice selection of ties.

I’ve been going to Peter for a couple of years now. My boyfriend and I first went to Peter after purchasing a suit and shirt (both very pricy) at Macy’s for a wedding we were attending in Tokyo. The salesman (who is a friend of mine) suggested Peter Panos over Macy’s services. Peter did all of our alterations wonderfully!
His talent with shirts is what really impresses me. I like my shirts to be practically «form fitting» around the midsection and I love the way he adjusts them for me. I’m probably his only customer that routinely brings him $ 30 Billabong shirts (even polos) to adjust at a fee of $ 45, but I find it totally worth the money!
I haven’t ordered a custom shirt yet, though would like to someday.
My only complaints would be the size of the shop is a bit petite and the prices are not low. Both of these are no doubt due to its prime location.

I’m in a wedding out of town and needed a suit measurement to send to the tailor in the groom’s home town. Tailors typically provide this service freely, yet I was quoted $ 45 at this store (it’s only two minutes of work). If you need measurements go to the shops next door where it is free, as it should be.

i had a bad expereince having peter adjust a kiton sport coat which was purchased 50% off and arguably a half size too large. i first asked peter to bring the shoulders in a bit – that adjustment seemed to be performed competently. then, feeling confident, i asked him to adjust a little bit of «break» in the silhouette of the jacket caused by one of my shoulders being a bit lower than the other. at this point, the jacket came out as pretty much an unwearable disaster – check matching was all off, and one of the shoulders which he had previously adjusted was totally changed for the worse. part of the value of a kiton jacket is the characteristically soft shoulder – he totally changed it to his own «house» style – this would have been bad enough, but he only did it on one side. when i objected, he told me that his shoulder was better (not true, imho). when i asked if he could rework one or both shoulders to match each other, he told me nothing else could be done with the jacket.
after asking around for other tailoring options, i found someone who is qualified to work on garments of this type. he opened up both shoulders in front of me and found – ta da – machine stitching and overstuffed shoulder pads that are not typical of kiton. again, the value of the garment is largely in the shoulder construction, which is generally performed by hand. when i had peter initially look at the jacket, i asked him if he would perform the work by hand, and was assured that he would. so, even though the first alteration appeared okay to the untrained eye, he took some major shortcuts (given the price) and didn’t keep his word on how the work would be done.
anyway, contrary to peter’s claims that nothing else could be done, another tailor managed to undo peter’s shoddy work and gave me a very satisfactory result overall (although it took him five hours of work).
i have no experience with peter’s custom work, and would not want to denigrate it unnecessarily. and, for all i know, his alteration work on things that are more in keeping with his house style (which i would describe as more structured) may be perfectly good. but, if you are seeking major alteration of anything with «soft» shoulder or chest construction – kiton, isaia, attolini, polo ralph lauren, even some brioni models – find someone else.

the more i wear the suit i got altered here the more i’m liking this place. the jcrew suit that i got on clearence now fits like a $ 2000 suit. still minus a star for the price, but worth it if you got a deal on the suit.

I’ve been somewhat obsessed with clothing for the last year or two, and have become extremely picky about fit. Nearly everything I own or buy has been altered, some pieces several times. I read about Mr. Panos on
, and recently took some jackets to him for alteration.
Mr. Panos is a truly a master of garment fitting (at least men’s blazers). He recognizes the subtleties of jacket fit: shoulder seam angle, drape, skirting. I’ve brought jackets to him that I previously had altered by other tailors, and he re-​cut them to a much more flattering fit. He has an eye for the «European» cut: a much slimmer look than the typical boxy, wide «American» cut.
Peter’s services are much more expensive than some other tailors I’ve used, and continue to use. However, if you have a really nice jacket that you’re willing to invest in, I think you can’t go wrong with Mr. Panos. You get what you pay for!

Peter represents what a great tailor should be. I have been going to him for 5 years now and his workmanship is tip-​top. You can find more affordable tailors for alterations, but when you spend good money on a suit why not put it in good hands…
Furthermore, if you can afford it, his custom suits and shirts are beautiful, better made and more affordable than any off-​the rack stuff you’ll find at Neiman or Wilkes.
P. S. if you are a Men’s warehouse kind of guy, don’t even bother with Peter.

Excellent service, pricing and convenience (Union Square) make for one hell of a tailor. I have used Peter Panos for a good 10 years. Never disappointed and the quality delivered is outstanding.
I recently had a pair of pants hemmed and the turnaround time was 45minutes long enough to get lunch but short enough to get done up and step out.

I bought a great fur lined leather jacket from Harput’s Market and Gus recommended Peter Panos for the final touches. For $ 45, I had the arms taken in and now the jacket is ready to wear. Great craftsmanship for the clothes that you want to fit just right.

While I am of the «why iron when you can just blow dry it wrinkle free» and «why have the hem trimmed when you know that after 40 or so washes the bottom of your jeans will stop dragging on the ground» school of thought, my husband is quite the opposite. Every time he buys a new suit, he immediately takes it to Peter Panos. And he looks gooooooooood. Aw, yeah! Maybe I’ll decide to clean myself up sometime and give it a try.
