We love this place, to the products, the wonderful friendly staff, to the amazing bathing area, this is the best pet store in the entire Bay Area! We’ve been going here for years and have had great recommendations about food, snacks and other products.
Our dog loves coming here too! They always great him with a treat & scratch. He doesn’t even mind getting a bath anymore. (He is not a fan of water!) Love the assortment of shampoos too.

Super great staff & my dogs felt awesome after their baths! Easy to find & was able to park very close to the bathhouse.

I happen to walk by this place yesterday. It’s a cute little pet boutique with plenty of healthy treats and food for both cats and dogs. What makes this place stand out are the people. They really love animals. As soon as we entered, we were greeted and our dog Charlie was given treats (healthy treats). In a world full of Petsmarts, Petfood Express & Costos, it’s really refreshing to see that there are still mom and pop own stores devoted to product and service.
Also, they are having their block party the first weekend in November. I will definitely be attending. Being new to the city, I’m surprised how dog friendly SF is. I guess I shouldn’t be.
Also a FYI — if it’s price you are concerned about like you’re looking for that 50 lb bag of dog chow for $ 20, then this is not the place. There’s a Petsmart around here I’m sure. However, if you are looking for a place to get healthy and natural treats and meals for your pet, this is the place to go. I don’t knock people who look to save a buck or three here and there, but there are better things o skimp on than nutrition for yourself and your loved ones which include pets.

Great, but pricey for sure! They have an amazing assortment of practical items from leashes, harnesses, collars to high-​end food, treats, chews, etc., plus a nice assortment of toys. People are very nice and helpful, plus they have a DIY bath station which is awesome for dogs that don’t require a ton of special grooming.

Pawtrero is the best! Our yorkie has made the store his first stop on our daily walks and the staff are super helpful. They introduced us to kangaroo treats and some canned food that he loves.
They also have an awesome retail selection for toys, carriers etc.

My Shar Pei pup enjoys going to Pawtrero as much as he enjoys zooming around his favorite dog park. Why? The doting staffers always greet him with a treat and a nice head rub!
And I dig them, too. Pawtrero stocks the best of the best food; organic, domestically-​produced treats; brain-​stimulating toys; the most plush bedding; padded leashes; and natural hygiene products. Sasha started off on Orijen puppy food, and then around the 8-​month mark I transitioned him to Orijen 6-​Fish adult dog food. It’s grain-​free and loaded with whole fish from cold Canadian waters along with regional lentils, veggies, and fruits. Orijen is definitely on the expensive end of the dog food spectrum, but we receive comments almost daily on how exceptionally shiny and soft his coat is for a Shar Pei (their hair can be quite coarse and dry). Orijen is only available at a handful of shops in SF, but it’s priced the most competitively at Pawtrero. And for those times I don’t feel like dragging it from parking garage to my apartment, I’ll wait until I need a $ 100 worth of food/​shampoo/​treats and they’ll deliver it for free. Sweet!
If you’re like me and have a difficult time bathing your water-​apprehensive dog at home in the bath, Pawtrero has you covered. Their self-​serve bathhouse is stocked with a selection of Earthbath shampoo products (our favorite), towels, brushes, clippers, and aprons to keep us humans dry. And the raised tubs with ramps make it easy to get larger dogs in!
Though some of the items sold at Pawtrero may be purchased for less on Amazon, I feel that the well-​curated collection, warm service, and the $ 5 off every $ 100 spent in the store all ends up evening out. Their commitment to selling only quality products makes me feel secure… it feels great to know that everything I touch in the store is actually good for my pup. I’m well-​aware that Shar Peis have shorter life expectancy than a lot of dogs their size, but I’ll hopefully have Sasha by my side for longer by putting only the best products in and on his body… because he’s more than worth it.

I came to grab some food for my kitty. David was super helpful in introducing me to a few different types of dry food. He provided some samples and I did an experiment at home to see which one he took to the most. It was a clear winner. He loves the «Natural & Delicious» so I’ll be back for a big bag :)

My favorite place to restock my baby’s food, toy, and snacks! Yeah sure everything is slightly more expensive than those big chain pet stores, but their quality is 10x better! I wouldn’t want to give my dog anything but the best goodies, and this place offers just that. Love the fact that they carry Orijen and Acana! And love the billy sticks they offer! This will always be my go to place to restock my puppy’s supplies :)
And also, customer service is alwayssss great! Good atmosphere all around!

DIY Dog Bath is FAB… best deal in town for $ 12. They supply water, shampoo, towels, dryer, and grooming brushes. You supply the stinky dog… and voila! fifteen minutes later, you have a new dog! No reservations required! Open on Sunday!

When I first moved to SF I found this little gem. I asked them if they had suggestions for my beloved pup and cat for vets, sitters, walkers etc. They printed me off a list and took the time to talk to me about my preferences. They pointed out which places sounded more appropriate for my pets.
I’ve been there once to wash my dog and they had everything I needed. I love the attention they give and their knowledge of their products.
A previous review said they didn’t have much for cats. Well perhaps if you feed your cat Meow Mix then you’re right– they don’t have that crap. They have TONS of stuff for cats. They have fresh treats, grain free food, fresh food, toys, bowls, jungle things, organic things too. We buy more for our cat in there than we do for our dog!

We all know someone or at least have seen someone who acts a bit cray cray when it comes to their pets.
You know… the type of pet owners that dress up their dogs in much more than a basic collar, the kind of owners that take great care and pride in naming their pooch, the ones that throw birthday parties for their furry pets annually, and the ones that groom and massage their pets as if they’ve had a long hard day at work.
*Stands up* I, Ann S., am indeed a cray cray pet owner.
After stumbling into Pawtrero, I grew immediately excited over the great variety of chew toys, specialty pet foods and baked goods, doggie snacks, dog books and magazines, and various leashes, collars, pet clothes, and bedding. Oh joy! More things to publicly embarrass my sweet dog with! Hey, if I had to be embarrassed when I was younger for the sake of my parents thinking it was «cute,» then by golly, my furry children will have to experience the same thing.

Ok, where was I. Oh yes… So this pet shop offers so many great products and accessories.
The most loveliest thing was being greeted by the sweeeeetest Golden Retriever I’ve ever met. I just about died. She was the absolute cutest. I must’ve sat there petting her belly for nearly 20 minutes. Dogs truly do make me happy!
I highly recommend anyone with a pet to come by and visit this shop. The staff are very passionate and knowledgeable about their products and the services that they offer.

Poor experience.
I have dropped by here many times on the way to Caltrain, often with good (if not cheap) results. But late last week i had a cat who some nervous scratching issues. The nice girl behind the counter recommended some Calming cat treats with the repeated assurance that if they didn;t work, bring them back and we could try something else.
Well the cat wouldn’t eat them, and for a cat who is a rescued feral who will eat ANYthing that’s saying a lot.
So yesterday I brought them back. Two young girls, maybe sisters behind the counter, talking and giggling and not paying attention. When I got their attention, asking for a simple exchange, suddenly it was no longer «just bring them back» it changed into ‘we have to call the manager’ «we need yoru receipt, your blood type, your fingerprints…».
Maybe it was just them, but I just dropped the treats on the counter and walked out.

Carefully curated products, enthusiastic employees, a real passion for pets: this is why you support your local pet shop. I just stopped in here to pick up some supplies for my puppy, and was blown away by my experience. I bought a few items, and the owners even gave me a ride home because it was a little bit more than I could carry. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely come back.

I love this place. It is super cute my dog loves coming here with me and seeing the in store cat. I always pick up a little goodie for my dog when I am there. I love their toys and their recommendations. They recommended I put a squeaky kong ball inside another ball and my dog went crazy for it and it lasted for quite a bit.
Once our dog is old enough we will switch him to raw food and we will definitely go here, they are so helpful and have a great selection

Friendliest and best pet store in the city. The owners always say hi and are always helpful. They have a wide range of pet supplies, the store is clean and well organized. 5 stars!

I’m a huge fan of Pawtrero.
They taught me about raw food and my pets are healthier for it. I sincerely appreciate that they are always up on the changing landscape of pet food, like having an in person whole dog journal in your neighborhood.
Their prices are very fair, given their small size and expensive real estate.
They sincerely love pets and are kind people, who do all kinds of community activities such as fundraising for Muttville Senior Dog Rescue.
Ray is an incredible human being. the world is a better place because of him. He truly loves being a shopkeeper and working with people.

I’ve visited this cute shop on a couple of occasions, however today was the first time I brought my dogs here for a bath. Pawtrero Hill offers self-​service dog baths for just $ 12. Soo worth it! After moving to SF, I’ve struggled to give the dogs their bath in the walk-​in shower I have… it’s messy, inconvenient, not enough water pressure from the rain shower head 9 feet above and not easy to keep all 80 pounds of a dog corralled without a bathtub wall.
This place is great! They provide everything you need. The large stainless steel tub is at waist level, which makes it much better on my back than bending over a regular bath tub. A ramp is available too for the bigger dogs. As a clothes saver, they provide full length rubber aprons. There is a selection of about five different Earth Bath shampoos and a few others random brands. They have an ample supply of fresh towels and a professional style dryer. There’s also a selection of brushes/​combs, nail trimmers, etc for you to use to finish off primping your pup. Best of all, when you’re done, you toss the towels in the laundry basket and walk away. No clean up or loads of laundry to do!
On top of this being a super convenient alternative to bathing them at home, the staff here are super friendly… offering both Cooper and Melrose treats and attention =) There’s a great selection of toys, treats, supplies and natural food. I’m sure we’ll be regulars here.

I just wandered in here while staying with a clients pet in SOMA after noticing there was a specialty pet store near by. I was really impressed with the high quality pet food brands they were carrying such as Orijen and GO in most flavors and sizes. They had a good selection of treats, toys, bowls, shampoo’s, leashes and collars without overwhelming you. I was able to speak with the manager who was ringing me up and we struck up a conversation as she asked me I’d like to become a rewards member. I told her I didn’t live in the area, however, I would probably stop by again whenever I was with a client.
The staff her was extremely friendly and helpful and the prices were competitive with simular small pet stores. I would definitely recommend this place if you happen to live in the area, otherwise, they have another location in potrero hill for those living closer to there.

I don’t even own a pet, but this places makes me want to! I came here to buy my friend’s puppy a toy and treat. It’s so neat and clean in here! Everything is adorable, I spent about an hour in here looking at every item and asking a million questions. The ladies behind the counter knew every dog that came in there on a first name basis, which I found really cool.
They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about their products. I came in here with no clue on what to get but after a lot of circling around the store, I bought a football chew toy that squeaks and a doggie cookie ^_​^
Pup loved both but the cookie made him sick… making my gift slightly awkward.
This place is awesome though! They even offer doggie baths! They provide all the stuff you need at a reasonable price and you leave with a clean pooch.

Could not live without this place. The staff could not be more helpful. You have a question, they are happy to answer.
Love that they only carry the best products for my pet, and I absolutely couldn’t live without their industrial-​sized self-​serve tub for washing Fort Funston sand out of my golden’s coat.

The owners are awesome. Huge selection of doggie stuff. I bought a seat belt, dog toys, treats, and raw frozen food here. There is another store in Potrero, but I like this location better.
Prices are pretty steep, but it’s just because the quality of the products. We actually compared the prices in the store and in the internet and it’s pretty much about the same. Nevertheless, I would encourage everyone to support your local store if they are just a few bucks more!
