Pak Oriental Rug

I wanted a small rug for my backroom where I work at the computer. I was concerned about price and size. Ahmed Butt treated me as if I were worth his time and attention and made me feel right at ease. We looked at a variety of rugs, and he helped to ensure that I found a rug that met my price range and the dimensions I needed. I wound up with a rug that I truly love and that makes my room a delight to enter.

Messrs. Butt the elder and the younger provided us with absolutely outstanding service in every possible respect. We purchased three runners, one 41 feet long. Since these had to be custom made for us, there was no room for error. The elder Mr. Butt came to our home twice to ensure that we chose the right designs and colors. There was a potential installation problem with the runners, and Mr. Butt promised that he would take care of any problems. Fortunately, there were no problems whatsoever. The runners we purchased came from one workshop in India. The feel of them under our feet is nothing short of supremely comfortable. If we need fine oriental rugs in the future, our first visit will be to Pak Oriental Rug.

I recently went to purchase a rug at Pak Oriental. I found Ahmed wonderful to work with and would give Pak the highest recommendation. They know the rug business inside and out. I found it extremely educational as well. They let me take the rug home for a week and live with it before deciding whether to keep it or return it. Their rugs are beautiful and they have a very large selection. No sales pressure either. Ahmed was also very helpful with general rug décor advice. They are probably not the cheapest for rugs, but the quality is there and you are not just buying a rug, but a relationship with excellent customer service that will last a life time. You won’t regret it!

On a recommendation, took a wool (non-​oriental) area rug in for cleaning. It had never been cleaned since purchase (more than a decade ago). Results were perfection! Even some sun bleaching seems to have disappeared. Took 2 weeks, but well worth the wait. Highly recommended. Magnificent collection of oriental rugs for sale, too. But definitely high end (6 and 7 $$ figure depending on size, etc.)

We really enjoyed working with Ahmed on the purchase of our oriental rug. He and his father were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable on the different considerations. We were looking for an overdyed rug in a specific color, and we were happy to see that Pak had a large selection of various designs including overdyed rugs. Once we identified a piece that we liked, Ahmed and his father were happy to negotiate and helped us get a good price. We would highly recommend Pak for your next rug purchase.

If you have a rug you really love – and it needs cleaning – take it to Pak. You can find cheaper places to have your rug cleaned, but you won’t find better. Ahmed and his team are not only SUPER knowledgeable about every type of rug, but the results they achieve, without damaging the rug with harsh chemicals or abrasive techniques, are remarkable. The white areas of my expensive wool rugs were stained by greasy dog bones, and they somehow got the stains out without chemicals. They look like brand new. I have taken my rugs to Pak several times over the years with identical results. In addition, everyone there is super friendly, and they follow up by phone on everything they do. I highly recommend them for cleaning anything that truly matters to you.

I went in «wanting a rug» and came out more knowledgeable about rug designs and histories; appreciative of the many rugs Ahmed and team pulled out of everywhere whilst I hemmed and hawed about my rug; and happy with my final purchase! Great selection of modern, city and traditional rugs from Pakistan to Iran; Ahmed also went above and beyond to help me carry the rug to my car. Would def go back.

We had a badly water-​damaged silk/​wool Isfahan Bird of Paradise. We thought it was a goner, but Anjum said he had someone who could restore it. So we sent of off to SF. It took about three months, but when the rug came back we were gobsmacked by the workmanship. It’s next to impossible to tell where the repairs were made — the thread tying and dyeing was masterful. Yes, a bit pricey, but with this quality of service it was worth every penny. Thank you.

What an amazing selection of high quality rugs! We really appreciated the time Anjum and his son Ahmed took with us, figuring out which rug would work best for our space, color scheme, and dog friendly house. We ended up with a «tree of love» rug, just exquisite!

Pak Oriental Rug is THE last word on your heirloom rugs’s care, cleaning and conservation. In an industry where hard sells and half-​assed quality are the rule, Pak is the glorious exception. Ahmed and Anjum the father and son team behind Pak are literally the gods of fine rugs. Their combined knowledge and knowhow along with their honesty and high ethics make them the only business who will have my business from here on, along with recommending them to my friends and family too. Briefly want to share my personal experience:
I had been beyond hesitant for the last four years about getting my treasured oriental rugs even halfway presentable ever again. I had all but given up hope and had been living on top of bare hardwood floors for some time. That should give you some idea of how bad my experiences have been with other Bay Area rug cleaners. From being verbally assaulted and victimized by one well known San Francisco rug cleaning business owner’s crank calls to having my name wrongly turned over to a collection attorney due to the business’s shitty accounting department which applied my account to a defaulted account with similar name, note similar name spelling not the same. Seriously, I would look at my bare floors and the rugs rolled up, leaning against the walls in the corners of every room in my house and I would want to cry which was actually preferable than cold calling to find a cleaner I would have to take a leap of faith with. And this holiday season, despairing of ever hosting fabulous little cocktail parties for my friends again, I took a huge leap of faith and launched my Unilocal app and spent the better part of two days researching and debating and pacing the bare floors when I finally decided to go with Pak. My god, I was so surprised tho still skeptical when I explained my rugs state of disrepair to Ahmed and he had a expert response and solution right over the phone. Skeptical still but with a growing sense of hope I allowed them to come over that same day to look at my rugs and offer me a preliminary evaluation. Ahmed came over along with a helper in the pouring rain and expertly examined my rugs and gave me some insight into one of my rugs in particular which I had bought at an estate sale for under five hundred dollars but even my novice eye could tell was a well made rug, Ahmed gave me it’s origins, insight into the rare pattern’s meaning and pronounced it to be worth several tens of thousands of dollars more than what I paid and even wanted to buy it from me, giving me a very solid offer. So flush with the flattery and hopeful knowledge these folks know their shit off went four of my gorgeous rugs with a promise from Ahmed to call later that day with a precise cost estimate and details on the actual methods to be used to clean/​fix them. One rug in particular, a family heirloom, strode upon by former US President Harry S Truman and First Lady Bess Truman and their daughter Margaret when they were entertained by my grandparents at their home in Lees Summit, Missouri in 1948, I had completely given up on also went with Ahmed’s confident promise to remove the overwhelming odor of dog urine along with fixing the further damage I had done by trying to wash it in my bathtub with Dawn dishwashing liquid! I know this is already not brief but bear with me. Ahmed called me as promised with his cost and method to restore. This time I did start crying when Ahmed gave me the price because tho I was confident in their ability there was no way I would be able to afford it and after babbling incomprehensibly at poor Ahmed for a few minutes I asked him apologetically to return my rugs. What happened next was a true Christmas miracle, Mr Ahmed said he could tell the great store I set by my rugs and that he would be able to clean and fix them as best he could at cost with no gain to him. What??? You’re kidding me? Do I look or sound like Jimmy Stewart? Surely this is a joke? Because this sure feels like Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life. Ahmed indeed wasn’t kidding and Im sure this kind individual with a real love, knowledge and passion for fine rug weaving must’ve been rolling his eyes over the phone at this simple minded but overwhelmingly grateful new client of his. So with my heartfelt gratitude I thanked Ahmed and consented for him to begin work. He promised they would be done by New Years Eve morning should I care to throw an impromptu cocktail party that evening. So confident was I that by the time New Years Eve dawned less than a fortnight later I had pretty much forgotten about my rugs, not because I was used to the bare floors (one should never grow accustomed to bare floors) but because thats how confident I was in Pak’s ability. Granted I had been blessed by a benevolent artisan but I also have a highly refined sixth sense. Trust me. I just knew. Long story short; rugs are as promised and BETTER THAN EVER! Unilocal is telling me Im too verbose, so I’ll close with, TRUST NO OTHER. Pak is THE BEST

We purchased two rugs on two separate occassions from this family owned business. I found the owner and his son to be extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their business. The Pak team patiently flipped rugs for us, keeping sizes and color preferences top of mind. Highly recommend Pak Oriental Rugs!

They deserve the accolades. They may not be inexpensive, but I wonder what a high-​knot handmade rug would cost at US minimum wages…
Had rugs cleaned and restored. The cost of restoring an antique Tabriz was high, but the work done should allow it to last for another 100 years. It was worn when my Grandmother gave it to me in my early twenties, but still beautiful. After restoration it looks so good my Grandmother would never have given it to me (just kidding).
I can’t imagine going anywhere else for rugs. The biggest problem I have is not buying more from their wonderful inventory.

Two impeccable experiences: the first a complex cleaning process on a 100 year old Persian rug I brought in & second the purchase of another beautiful antique from showroom.
Anjum & Ahmed are a family business who have been in San Francisco for 30 years. They have an incredible selection of custom, antique and new rugs. They are charming people — they taught me a lot about the history of the rug I brought in for cleaning — and every interaction was straightforward and professional.
They have a large selection of rugs, they are the source for many larger more well known retailers, and they are a great place for you to go to learn and buy confidently.

Excellent experience with Ahmed and Anjum at Pak. I live in Sonoma county and spent an entire day in San Francisco checking out rugs — I visited about 10 rug stores, mostly in the vicinity of the SF design center. The guys at Pak were by far the best… no cheesy sales pressure, attentive and friendly service, and a great selection of high quality rugs. I love that they didn’t play the games so many other rug stores do, like claiming to be having a «going out of business sale» or «70% off everything.» Those games are a waste of time and Ahmed and Anjum were straight shooters who earned my trust by being direct and clear.
If you are shopping for high quality rugs, definitely stop by Pak. And don’t let the traditional sounding name throw you off, they have a wide variety of rugs in all different styles.

For cleaning, absolutely impeccable, from the quote to the customer service to the quality of the work!!! They took a very nice rug that had not been cleaned in over 10 years and made it look new again. And they are ALL super nice and helpful. I will definitely use them again.
And if I were in the market for a new rug– they have some of the nicest, most vibrant rugs I have ever seen. Gorgeous.

We were in need of serious cleaning for two of our oriental rugs, and are extremely pleased with the service and results we received from Pak Oriental Rugs. Ahmed gave me a rough estimate over the phone as well as options available. After arriving right on schedule to pick up the rugs, George deftly moved the furniture — and was most polite. He noticed there was wear on a corner, about which Ahmed called a gave me an additional price. They stayed within the estimate.
These rugs were very soiled — one rug had suffered through a year of hit and miss puppy-​training and the other had been oversprayed with paint from a model ship. But Pac did an amazing job getting virtually all the dirt out while maintaining the original finish of the rugs. In addition, Pak craftsmen rewove the shredded corner so that the damage is now invisible and all sins are forgiven.
All this, plus Ahmed graciously translated and explained an Arabic symbol into English for me.
So, when we need anything pertaining to rugs in the future, we will turn to Pak again.

I brought my wool braided rug to Pak after a long search for a local company able to remove its many pet stains.
Ahmed had me email photos and called me back immediately to discuss what was required to restore the rug. He quoted a reasonable price and assured me that his team has successfully cleaned this type of carpet before. We were able to drop the rug off same-​day and told it would be ready in 2 weeks.
Right on schedule, we got a call and picked up what looked like a brand new rug. All the odors and stains were gone (some had been sitting for months!). I could not be happier with the level of service and care provided by Pak. Based on this experience, I will definitely be returning for all my carpeting needs!

I just though of Pak as my wife wants a new run for our house and I purchased 6 small rugs from Pak at the last minute as I needed them for a project we were working on at work.
Ahmed helped us out over the phone then gave a great price for the 6 and stayed open late for us to come buy and pick them up as we were under a deadline with clients coming in.
Their selection was great when I looked around when I got there. I will be buying a rug there for personal use as well.

Amazing store! Ahmed took great care of us throughout the whole rug-​buying experience, showing us (what seemed like) hundreds of rugs and helping us discover what would work best in our home. He let us take home 5 different rugs to try out for a few days — which was immensely helpful since it is almost impossible to tell if a rug is the right one for your space from the showroom floor. We settled on a 29 foot runner for our long edwardian hallway and a 6×9 for the living room. They look great and feel like part of our home!
