NextSpace Coworking SoMa

Very nice space. My wife and I got stuck waiting for a passport and got in, online, and into a quiet booth in ten minutes. Friendly staff, recommended.

Only downsides are limited number of small cubicles for phone calls. Overflow ends up being the stairwell. And I just wish, as a B Corp, that there was more attention to having a sustainable building. There are ancient lights, dripping faucets, etc. Seems like a modern day B could push a little harder and fix some of the free stuff to have a better impact on the planet.
Overall very pleased.

Long story short: good atmosphere ruined by idiot managers.
My mother and I have been members for a while now in the SoMA location. A while back my mother has been repeatedly harassed by another member of this location. Each time she reported it to Thomas Lassetter (currently the Northern California Regional Curator, as well as the current manager of the Union Square Location) she was told that discipline would be dispensed. However, the only reprimand that this particular member received was multiple «stern warnings».
Eventually my mother and the anonymous member got into an heated argument. This argument culminated in said member threatening my mother with PHYSICAL VIOLENCE. His exact words were «You wanna take this outside?» Keep in mind that my mother is a 60yrs+ senior citizen who is incapable of hurting anyone. So for a big guy to come in and threaten her, it completely pissed me off. To this day, my mother does not feel safe whenever he is around.
What really irks me is that nothing was done to correct this particular member’s behavior. Thomas didn’t do anything besides «sternly» warning this particular member to not cause trouble again. Unfortunately, this particular member did not heed the warning and continued to antagonize my mother. And it culminated in him threatening her with physical violence. I am not a person who takes any form of threat, abuse, or disrespect lightly whether it’s directed at me or my loved ones. If I get pushed, I push back. And that is exactly what I did.
It was late one night when I decided to walk upstairs to do something. This particular member, my mother and I were the only ones on the second floor of the building. As I was walking I cleared my throat. And immediately after that I hear the member mimic what I just did. When I turn around, this member is looking at me with the most arrogant smirk on his face. I confront him about it and ask him «You got a problem?» With the cocky smirk still on his face he says to me in the most condescending tone ever: «Excuse me I’m on the phone.»
After I finished what I needed to do upstairs I came back down to the second floor and decided to give this particular member a taste of his own medicine. So I sat behind him and mimiced him for the next 20 seconds as well as made some noises with chairs in order to intentionally disturb him. After that I went back to my business.
Fast forward to Wednesday April 8^th, I get a text from my mother saying that Thomas has terminated my membership from Nextspace due to «aggressive behavior». One of the current managers of the SoMa location (Alex) even went as far to say that my behavior involved the «thrashing» of Nextspace property (the chairs, which btw is a gross exaggeration).
I wasn’t surprised at getting in trouble for what I did. What surprised me is that I got kicked out despite it being my first offense. Where was my «3-​strikes»? Where was my «stern warning»? I didn’t get any of those luxuries. Thomas sent an email demanding that Alex and Natalie (the current managers of the SoMa location) take away my keycard and kick me out (which they did).
Here is the reason why I think I got kicked out of this place. It was because the particular event involving the chairs was recorded by the security cameras. Despite it being my first offense, they judged it as «too far» and decided to terminate my membership.
I would like to present this argument. What about the particular member who threatened my mother? Why was he not kicked out? I cause one situation and get kicked out while he causes MULTIPLE situations but somehow only gets a few slaps on the wrist? All because my ONE offense was caught on tape but his VARIOUS offenses were not?
The so-​called evidence they have of me displaying «aggressive behavior» is circumstantial. They knew neither the reason nor the context of the situation. The people in charge judged what they saw at face value and decided that I was the one who deserved to be kicked out.
If you are the type of person who doesn’t like to read I’ll summarize it right now:
* I used to be a member, I got kicked out for displaying «aggressive behavior» to another member.
* This particular member constantly antagonized my mother, and even threatened her with PHYSICAL VIOLENCE. Yet somehow, he has not been kicked out.
* The reason why I got kicked out is because my ONE incident was recorded, while the MANY incidents that the particular member caused were not. Plus, the people in charge are probably scared because this particular member is African American. They’re probably thinking that if they try to do something against him, he’ll claim it’s discrimination. So instead they pick on me, the Asian guy.
* I got kicked out of here on my first offense, while the other member was able to get multiple «stern warnings». Double standard much?
Alex and Natalie are good managers. Unfortunately they have a boss with a warped sense of justice who doesn’t know how to do his job.

First experience at this co-​working space and it’s neither great nor terrible.
I expected a little more room, a little more light, a little more of everything. But, the staff here is great and they make do with what they’ve got. The patrons are nice enough (except for one who decided to make a call to his bank on speakerphone and carry on a long and loud conversation in the center of the work area).
Overall, I’d come back if I find myself on this side of Market Street with a need to setup shop for the day. Maybe not at full price though (the Unilocal deal helped immensely).

A very nice coworking space. The staff are super friendly and very helpful if you need anything. The only thing I don’t like about the Café space is that it can get noisey at times, but it’s great for collaborative work.

Overall, it is a great space — but small. I worked for a year at WeWork which I loved for their open space! There was sunlight, sliding glass doors, and activity. The NextSpace had a vibe of a library in comparison which was different and not really what I’m used to. However, if you prefer to work in quiet spaces then NextSpace will definitely work for you. People speak in whispers and there is a photobooth in case you need to take a call.

I’ve been coming to nextspace for the past 5 months and have had nothing but positive experiences. The space is comfortable and versatile. They have fast reliable internet and plenty of outlets, etc
I find that I am considerably more productive here than I am at home and I’ve even been able to network with the other patrons here.
A big shout out to Tom and Natalie for providing a good atmosphere for all the workers. And there are also some dope perks from time to time like free food /​samples (not typical, but definitely appreciated), low cost massages, (not really my thing, but worth noting), happy hours, sponsored events, and free coffee and tea on deck daily.
You should try «coworking» here sometime. I did and I actually look forward to working — I’m not even shitting around!

Next Space is a great place to get work done without the hassle of setting up your own office. Focus on your business not on the office set up.

Spent a day here on a Meetup $ 5 Friday, the space is narrow and feels cramped. Despite the number of people working there it was surprisingly quiet. I was expecting more potential interaction, given that I heard about it as a Meetup event. The coffee was ok, but got cold fast. They have different levels (heights) of tables to work at, so you can do the standing desk thing if you want. They have conference rooms available. While I was there, meetings ran late, which caused to people standing around waiting for the room to open up. For the (normal) price I would expect a better experience than I could get at a café.

I only used it for a day. Noisy but good enough.

I tried out NextSpace because of the $ 10 deal on Unilocal.It was just fine, but not a place where I would feel very productive on a regular basis. I ended up at the long, high communal table in the middle since there weren’t any other desks available (and I didn’t realize or didn’t hear that there was another floor). Another person who came in soon after me and sat at the communal table made a big deal of standing and stretching every 5 minutes and it was distracting. Since there wasn’t any other place to go I just focused on the work I was there to do and ground it out as quickly as I could. Very friendly staff/​receptionist, seemed like a nice place but I don’t think I’d return, especially at $ 25/​pop.

I have been here only a couple of times but it’s a place where you can feel unusual things happen… an inviting work community.
Nextspace has really defined coworking in the Bay Area in many ways, and Rebecca, the local community host and Nextspace COO, is awesome!

NextSpace is great. It’s exactly what I was hoping for in a co-​working space. Strong community, great atmosphere to be productive, everything you need to host business meetings, and a Friday happy hour? Doesn’t get much better.

I’ve been a NextSpace member, at the «café» level, for over a year and a half. There are many things I love about NextSpace:
Great staff who are enthusiastic, energetic, responsive, friendly, and fun!
One-​person tables for café-​level members! (I can’t work well on a consistent basis at shared tables.)
Super-​convenient and central location to Muni, BART, eating, museums, shopping.
Incredible number of interesting and supportive members.
I’ve checked out all the other co-​working spaces and NextSpace is the best.

NextSpace is by far the best co-​working space there is. Hands down. They have a super convenient location for public transportation, beautiful space, warm and friendly staff and all the ‘Spacers’ (people that work there) totally rock!
I attended an evening networking event here and just happened to leave my scarf. I came back the next day to get it and fell in love with the staff and the vibe so I signed up for the monthly café membership right there. Now I work from an office on the 3^rd floor but loved working both in the café space and office spaces on the 2^nd and 3^rd floors, it’s all great :)
I have met several resources working from here from clients to staffing for my businesses and highly recommend getting out of a home office and into NextSpace! Enjoy :)

I am currently using this space to study for the bar exam. I’ve been using it with a «Café» membership (no dedicated workplace) about 10 days now and have had a pretty good experience. There are two floors to choose from, with the top floor being a little more active because it also houses reception and the kitchen. Here is how would break it down:
PROS:
−24÷7 access
–Location, location, location! If you plan to work here during the week and take public transit, it’s great. Literally across the street from the Montgomery BART/​Muni Metro station, Starbucks, Peets, and several restaurants.
–Friendly staff that tries very hard to make sure you are happy and feel a sense of community (free happy hours, member lunches, etc.)
–Conference rooms you can book online or through an app. Café Membership comes with 4 hours and you can buy more
–Nice modern feel; clean; great little things like whiteboards, monitors, storage spaces
–Kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, free coffee
CONS:
–Quiet/​profession most of the time. During the early/​mid afternoons it can get a little loud. Most people are considerate and speak in a conversational tone, but I’ve had a few instances with people basically yelling into a Skype headset.
–Location, location, location! If you plan to work here on the weekends, most things around are closed so be sure to pack a lunch.
–Can’t use the elevator to go up from the lobby
–The second floor space doesn’t have a lot of lighting. It’s a nifty loft atmosphere, but I feel like I need a desk lamp to read sometimes.
Overall, I’d say that it’s a great concept and a great space. Definitely better than a library or a coffee shop. Worth the money for the convenience alone. If you’re curious, stop by for a free tour, the reception staff is really nice.

NextSpace has a pretty great environment. It’s 2 floors tall, located on the younger side of market, next to a ton of great food, steps away from BART, front door delivery from the 10 and various other Muni lines that run up and down Market or Mission.
The price is on the higher side of medium, but they have offices in LA, San Jose, and Santa Cruz too that you can work out of — so that’s a nice added bonus. They have the standard happy hour once a week and I believe a free community lunch as well.
This place had more of a community sceney vibe to me — whereas some of the other shared work space locations I checked out seemed to host a bit of an older crowd and gave off more of a professional feeling.
Overall I would still say I really enjoyed this place, though.

I’ve been to this coworking space twice, once for a hackathon and once for their Coworking Friday event. Both times I found interesting people to collaborate with, enjoyed a cup of coffee, and completed plenty of work.
I’ve been to a few other coworking spaces and NextSpace is definitely my favorite.

I’ve worked at three coworking locations — NextSpace San Francisco and Santa Cruz and The Urban Hive Sacramento. All locations are very good, but only NextSpace SF is located in the heart of the former and current technology boom.
NextSpace provides a comfortable setting for the independent contractor and/​or traveling professional, and both the SF and SC locations are located in busy districts where the energy is inspiring; you feel successful walking through the door.
The furnishings in both the SF and SC locations are comfortable — varying from hardback chairs to couches and soft arm chairs. There is enough space to make a phone call (quietly), and easy access to complimentary water, coffee, etc. At the SF location, Specialty’s Café is located across the street. The SC location is on Pacific Avenue, making access to restaurants and shops very easy.
The SF staff was friendly, but gave me enough room to work and operate as I pleased. There was no sales pitch regarding membership or a longer-​term commitment.
I recommend NextSpace SF (or SC) wholeheartedly and plan to return next time I’m in San Francisco.
One last note: The Urban Hive and ThinkHouse are also great spots in Sacramento, CA.
