Growing up a few blocks away, I grew up going here(I’m also Russian and am familiar with the items sold at this bakery.) The bakery has gone so downhill I’m never going to step foot in there again. For Mother’s Day I got my mom a piece of Napoleon cake(her fave) and an éclair and the cream was sour and disgusting and we threw it out. My mom was so upset and disappointed given how expensive these cakes have also gotten and we had to throw them out because they were gross and probably went bad. Anyway save your money and go to Katia’s instead.

I must have passed by this somewhat dated-looking Russian bakery many times without taking much notice. When curiosity finally struck, coupled with my desire to try more bakeries, I finally stepped inside and was pleased to discover their expansive display case filled with delicious-looking baked goods. Most of the items looked familiar, but none of the names did. I ordered an almond horn and something called a mishka. The almond horn looks a little like a cannoli, but it didn’t taste too interesting. The shell seemed a little soft and the filling wasn’t too special. The mishka looks like a cross between a napoleon and tiramisu. I thought the layers of sponge cake were a little to dry. I felt like I needed something to drink afterwards. I’d say both of those were not bad, but I’d need to try a few more items to fully assess how I feel about this place. Too bad I don’t know where to begin to order. Based on the two pastries, I give it a 7⁄10.

I grew up coming here for the best piroshkis in SF! Every time I’m in the city I have to make a stop to pick up at least a dozen! Because now my husband and kids are addicted… They are contagiously good!!!

Sort of stumbled into this bakery. Had the beef & cheese piroshki and it was delicious. Also had some sort of pastry with cheese which for the life of me cannot remember the name, but it was excellent. Will return next week

How amazing is this place? Really, super awesome! We went here on an early Friday afternoon(we both were off from work) and parking around this place is a nightmare. Luckily, we found a spot nearby in the residential area about 2 blocks away. There isn’t too many tables and chairs for those seeking to stay. However, their selection of goodies was really impressive. I loved everything we ordered here: a bag of frozen pelmemi, beef and cheese Piroshki, cheese blintz, and a giant meringue cookie. Everything was delicious except for the novelty item: meringue cookie. That was everyone’s least favorite item. However, for their Piroshki and Pelmeni alone — I’d got back. Plus, the service was super nice and not pushy at all. I’d love to return and try out their Georgian Cheese Bread(Acharuli Khachapuri), if they’re still serving that. Overall, great place and super yummy food.

Wow. I haven’t been here in about 8 years. I was ecstatic. Even though we were stuffed from a late lunch, we ended up here anyway. This place has had a serious remodel. I was kind of shocked. Almond horn = still as awesome as it ever was. Napoleon = always worth it. Flaky layers filled with custard. Use a fork, and napkins! Cherry strudel and apple strudel = perfect pastry with fruit filling. Prices = reasonable. All of the above was under $ 14.00. Oh, and they still have breads, cakes, and savory Russian delights(piroshki, blintzes, borscht, salads, etc.) My friend really enjoyed the beef piroshki, $ 2.00!

After eating at B-star Asian fusion a few blocks away, my family decided to stop to get desert. The Russian bakery seemed like a good idea and we were prepared for something a little different. The bakery is pretty standard with its layout and look. Nothing too fancy, and a few display cases with huge deserts. I ordered a giant almond cookie and my mom got the marble cake. The almond cookie was a 7⁄10. It could have been more moist, but the taste was perfect and the softness was on point. The marble cake was absolutely amazing. I would say as high as a 9⁄10. Very moist and soft, and you could taste all the different flavors melding together. My one gripe is that the servings were too big, so this limited our options because we did not want to bring home half an apple turnover.

A co-worker brought some piroshkis with cheese inside and others with what looked like onions and cabbage. Considering these had no meat in them, they were so tasty. They reheated nicely in the toaster oven. mmm! She also brought a large, round pastry that had meat inside. This was also delicious! Full of flavor and the bread on this, just like the piroshki are so dangerous. I’d love to go back to try more items. This co-worker is from Russia so I trust her patronage of this place and am so glad she introduced me to it.

I liked all the piroshki we purchased: Mushroom Beef Cheese(was my favorite surprisingly) The borscht soup was okay. A little bland. I wouldn’t get it again. The service was fine, she was nice. No problems getting 10% off with Unilocal check in.

The people running this place are just cheats! Today I bought there a box of «Seld’ pod Shuboi» salad, to go. And found out later on that there was no a tiny single piece of Seld’ there. Just Shuba, Shuba, Shuba… The lowest layer — beetroot– was suspiciously sour though… It’s supposed to be freshly steamed! Why it’s made sour — to fake Seld’? Or it was just a piece of spoilage that they inserted in their rubbish? Never set my foot there again!

Don’t forget to Check-in for 10% off! They have the best little pastries if you’re looking for a something small and sweet. Also great for personal birthday sweets. A small shop, if you want the baklava you got to come in earlier! It goes quick. Always come for The Napoleon and Cheese Blintzes!

3 – 4 stars for the almond horn and piroshki, but the rest of the items were very mediocre. We came in on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty quiet during that time. We tried: –Beef & Cheese Piroshki($ 2.50, ): Pretty good, and you get a giant piroshki for the price. There was a decent amount of filling, and it had good flavor. From L to R: Poppy Seed Cake($ 3.50), Vanilla Meringue, Almond Horn($ 3.50) [ –Almond Horn($ 3.50): Pretty good– it’s like a Lacey’s cookie wrapped into a roll and then filled with whipped cream. I liked the crunch of it. –Poppy Seed Cake($ 3.50): Yuck– this was super dry and crumbly, and not sweet. I didn’t like this at all. –Vanilla Meringue: I’m not a fan of meringue and just tried a small piece, but didn’t like it. Service isn’t very friendly here, but I appreciated that all the items were clearly labeled with the prices. I would consider coming back for the piroshkis and to try some of their other items, but would definitely skip the poppy seed cake in the future! Parking can be tough since street parking is limited.

Been a few years since I’ve been back here and ta da! They finally have beef AND cheese piroshkis. Interesting choice to go with feta cheese in their filling. Which isn’t a great melting cheese in my opinion but delicious nonetheless. I had never had their beef chebureks before until my last time here. It’s not as doughy as their piroshki but it’s flaky and filling. Just wrap it over two napkins to soak up the grease. Before you crush it!

Friend and I walked down Geary discovering all these amazing Russian gems! This place was known for their Piroshky so of course I had to try one. We got one beef and one potato and it was so yummy! Make sure you eat this fresh or retoasted in the oven. The Piroshky breading soaks up all the juices from the filling, it’s wonderful. This hearty treat only runs u back $ 2.50. Service was great, too! $ 5 minimum for card.

Saturday, 11:45AM. Quickie: + Delicious pastries + Menu options + Friendly service + Clean + Bargain And then??? Pair some of this stuff with good coffee on a mellow weekend and it’s chill mode. ********** Stuffed my face in: 1. Beef piroshki/pirozhki + Lots of filling 2. Cheese piroshki/pirozhki + Gooey like it’s supposed to be Constructive comments: *Remove residual oil from the fried goods? *Higher quality ingredients for the piroshki fillings? *What about recycling? *Compost option

Craving some Piroshkis the other day, I found myself wandering around Outer Richmond where all of the russian stores are in search of a quality one. Moscow & Tbilisi was my first stop. I picked up the beef and cheese piroshki and it was utterly disappointing. The dough was so thick and chewy it was hard to even bite through this. Also, it was of the baked variety and I definitely prefer them fried. I much prefer Anda’s or Cinderella’s to this. As an afterthought I also picked up a Ginormous with ground beef and it turned out to be the saving grace for this shop. It was massive, fried and flaky with a generous ground beef filling. The filling could have used a little more flavor but I definitely enjoyed this item. Overall, while it didn’t satisfy my piroshki craving, I did find a unique item which made this place«A-OK.»

Mushroom piroshkies. Get them here! Be forewarned that they also contain egg, but they are fantastic. Beef, cabbage, and cheese versions also available but mushroom is by far the best. This place may be down the street from New World but I come here for my baked goods. I prefer savory, but their sweet pastries and cakes are surprisingly modern, with varieties including green tea, white chocolate, lychee, and ginger. Location is small but clean, service is sweet. Challah sells out fast so grab it if you see it.
