Recently moved to San Francisco and having to find a new hair salon I thought it was going to be a challenge. However, I found Morphic and I can now be worry free. I saw Paul and he did an absolutely amazing job with my hair cut. It was also a pleasure to speak with him. I will definitely comeback to get my hair colored next time!

Thanks Tee for a solid cut. She cleaned up my layers and gave me an update to my style that I love.
Dry haircut? Wow — first time I ever had that done. What kind of mad styling skills does this woman have?!
Fabulous shampoo? Words cannot describe the absolute treat of a shampoo Tee gave — complete with a scalp massage that nearly put me to sleep!
On top of all that I had a lovely time talking with Tee and getting to know her. Genuinely nice person and I look forward to seeing her again.

Very happy with my cut by Emi today.
While unfortunately Emi was delayed 20 – 30 minutes with another client, she made up for it by giving me a complimentary conditioning treatment for the wait.
I went in saying «I want long layers» and she gave me precisely that. After I looked at it and explained why what I saw wasn’t what I envisioned, she happily put my gown back on and gave me the more defined layers I actually wanted. (Turns out, I thought long layers just meant I want layers in my long hair. Heh.)
My hair looks so healthy, and is incredibly easy to manage now. The cut lets my natural waves curl a little at the bottom of each layer, making the back of my hair a cascade of waves, as I envisioned. Very happy with my cut and the service. :)

T shampooed, blow dryed and flat ironed my hair and it was just perfect. She did a great massage during the shampoo. My hair did not feel weighed down or sticky with product. I had to a leave at a press time and she worked with my schedule. I strongly recommend this salon.

Mishi is an absolute hair goddess. I’ve never been so happy about my results from a hair appointment until now.
She’s so down-​to-​earth, genuine, and completely listens and understands what you want.
Although finding an appointment is a bit of a process, it’s definitely well worth it in the end. I highly recommend her to all!

I’m so glad I decided to go for a haircut! Paul really knew how to do wonders with curls! He gave me plenty of tips to be able to wear my hair down! Next time I’m in the city I will try some coloring… They are amazing! Morphic is the real deal! All of the team is really friendly and very approachable!

Amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting Mishi and going to her Salon as a hair model for my hair stylist/​friend Maxie. My hair hasn’t been touch for too long. I was in need of some major tlc and professional services big time. Everyone was super sweet and my hair has never looked or felt soooo good. I am getting so many compliments and love how natural it is to my own color. Definitely a fan and will be back!

SO. I have a go-​to hair guy in SF who I love. He highlights me, he dyes me, he cuts– etc. BUT… I want to go grey. He won’t do it. So I realize it might be time for a new go-​to hair person. I do my research and learn about Morphic. I decide this is the place to go. I make an appointment with Emi for next week.
Yesterday, I’m scanning Instagram and see that Morphic is looking for hair models for a blow out. I email and say I want to sign up. Christina gets back to me super fast and lets me know they have a spot open at 3pm the next day (today).
I’m super stoked! On my way there a dumbass skateboarder cuts into my lane and I honk at him. He passes me and SPITS, yes SPITS on my (literally just washed and waxed) car. I call my boyfriend and I’m like, «I might cry! Life sucks! Blah Blah Blah!» I don’t cry. I instead walk into Morphic and I’m greeted by Christina, later Mishi, and later the hair «student» Mishi is training (forgive me for not remembering her name– I promise I’ll get it next time!). My day immediately turns around.
Mishi is amazing! Like AMAZING. Not only did she give me a toner, a blowout, and a style FOR FREE (hair model plus– woo!) but I got to listen to her explain everything to someone else. Can you say FREE HAIR TIPS?! I got an awesome head massage, great shampoo and conditioner– and some awesome tips on how to style hair.
I honestly cannot wait for my cut and color next week with Emi. I really love Morphic’s attention to detail and their commitment to quality. It was awesome to see a behind the scenes look at how someone runs their salon– it was even more refreshing to know that even behind the scenes they are just as courteous as they are to your face.

This is a veryy late review for Emi.
I came to Morphic in March wanting to lighten up my look (I have dark brown hair and in the middle of winter my skin is really pale, making me look more like a vampire than I’d like). I had never professionally lightened my hair, so it was basically virgin brown hair EXCEPT for the underside, which I had bleached and dyed purple-​red over a year ago (I didn’t want to study for finals so bad that my friend and I wasted time by ruining each others’ hair. Fun.) I had tried to cover up the purple-​red color with brown hair dye many times, but since I had bleached it, I pretty much just have to wait until it grows out for it to be completely gone.
Emi noticed the purple (covered up with brown dye) immediately, but it didn’t phase her at all, and while I originally thought I wanted a balayage, we ended up going a more ombré direction after looking at the inspiration photos I brought.
After hours of work, my hair turned out fantastic, DESPITE the shock of the underside coming out bright red/​pink when it was bleached (which was inevitable — my fault for the damage I had done to it a year ago). When this happened, Emi handled it so professionally and troubleshooted the issue quickly and without panicking. Most importantly, she was totally transparent about the whole thing, explaining to me what was going on and what she was going to do — she made me feel so comfortable and I wasn’t even worried (even with pink hair!).
Conclusion — Emi did a skillfully artistic job on my hair, and the level of professionalism that she had when dealing with my messed up dye job was truly impressive and something I won’t forget. It’s so clear that at Morphic, they really care about every person’s singular experience, and that kind of genuine, personalized care is really hard to come by these days. Thank you Emi, and can’t wait to come in again :)

I’m not a huge reviewer on Unilocal,but I think that after my experience at Morphic, it would be totally uncool if I didn’t say something about the amazing care they gave me. I came in with a balayage ombré and wanted to go to a gray color, and was told that it would be a multi step process and probably pretty expensive. The whole thing definitely did cost a pretty penny, but what is so unique about this salon is that they are super knowledgable and really do care about your hair. This process took my hair to hell and back– with multiple bleachings and toning over the span of one month. Other hair salons could have done the same thing and completely ruined and fried my hair, but Morphic always emphasized my hair’s health before anything else. They use the best products and processes in order to make sure that once you leave the salon, your hair doesn’t fall out. My first appointment was with Emi who first bleached and lightened my hair, and I was able to come in 2 weeks later with Mishi to tone and finish the job. After that first wash with Mishi, I was a little nervous since there were still some brown areas and wasn’t as cool as I had wanted it, but that was because I hadn’t really understood how much of a process this was. When I voiced these concerns to Mishi, she let me come in TWO other times, while she was extremely busy (once was an accidental double booking), and was able to take care of me completely, and for FREE. Long story short, I am now in love with my hair, and it is exactly what I wanted, exactly what I had shown her in my inspiration picture. And to boot, the atmosphere is really nice in their salon. Thanks so much to Mishi and Emi, you hair goddesses.

WOW! What can I say? After a long string of bad haircuts, I finally got what I wanted. Mishi look at my pictures. The same ones I took with me to every salon before. She casually started cutting my hair and I instantly knew she was legit. She is so sweet and down to earth. She actually listened to me as we were conversating. The whole thing was a great experience and well worth the price. I’m more than happy to come out here from Pittsburg for my haircut. It’s so true that you get what you pay for. As I was leaving, I got a little misty in the elevator because I realized my bad hair ordeal was finally over. Even my husband took one look and was like «OK, I see that this cut is a different caliber than what you were getting before.» Love, love love!!!

Emi is amazing!!! This was my first time coming to her and definitely will not be my last. I came to her for a consultation after my last hairstylist botched my ombré. I had a lot of questions (esp. because of my horrible last experience) and she took her time to explain all the different options I had to fix my hair and made me feel really comfortable about the whole process. I was back in the salon just a few days after for her to work her magic.
She gave me a beautiful balayage that I am obsessed with! My last hairstylist gave me chunky, uneven color that was so brassy. Emi fixed it all and made my hair look better than I ever though it could! The whole process took a few hours but time flew by pretty quickly. It was so intriguing to watch her brush on the color strand by strand. I wear my hair straight and the color blends so seamelessly.
I came back to her the next day because I felt like I may have gone too light and she had no problem retoning me. She got my hair to the perfect color, which must have been tough since I had trouble explaining what I was envisioning. I was going back and forth between wanting it gold and red but but she worked her magic and blended a hint of violet with some gold/​caramel hues and gave me exactly what I wanted!

I have to say that i was very hesitant to pay over $ 100 for a haircut, considering the $ 75 i was paying at previous salons already seemed like a lot. However, that’s where my hesitation ended. Although, i did end up having to wait almost 30min past my original appointment time, once I met Mishi and explained how dissatisfied i was with a previous cut and color from another expensive salon, she went right to work on me. I showed her photos of the kind of layers i wanted and asked her if she could do anything to hide the extreme brassiness of my lightened ends, to which she said she could apply a darker brown toner.
After about 45min or so i was delighted by just how different my hair looked and how beautifully the layers and bangs were cut, neither looking choppy, stringy or flat. There was the perfect amount of layers and volume. My color unfortunately, could not be salvaged but at least she brought me back to my dark brunette so I didn’t have to attend an important event embarrassed by my hair.
Although, Mishi is expensive, she was able to correct a bad haircut and color effortlessly, and even suggested i could see her other assistant and sister, Emmi, who she personally trained for several years in order to help maintain my cut but at a more affordable rate for me. I’m looking forward to seeing what her assistant does with my baylayage next month but wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mishi for those who may either need to be saved from a bad haircut or for those who are willing to splurge on the very best!

This review is for Paul who did a wonderful job fixing a bad hair cut from another salon. The cut was uneven, choppy, and all around an embarrassing mess. I found Morphic on Unilocal,called, and they got me in last minute, 3 hours later.
Not only did Paul do a fantastic job fixing it, but he was knowledgable, open, and friendly. I was a bit anxious at first but Paul is super cool and provided a very comfortable environment. I’m seriously amazed with the end result considering what he had to work with. A very gifted stylist and highly recommended!

The search for a good stylist is like looking for a quality back-​alley abortion: a high-​risk undertaking that may only exist in theory. Most die before they find it, and well… It’s a problem exclusive to a small pool of women.
Just kidding. Sort of.
I spent the majority of my youth looking like dearest Spock, viciously being tossed through hundreds of different salons (sometimes, my mother would even give up and bestow to me the infamous bowl-​cut). Being treated in such a manner would undoubtedly cultivate commitment phobia in anyone. Of course, each time I found myself somewhere new, my pockets were dug into and precious locks ripped from behind me. I grew wise to learn that trust would only lead to heartbreak and humiliation. Every four weeks, I wept and wept — hoping and praying that perhaps there will be a day where things would be different: that I would find myself with someone kind and talented, someone whose eyes weren’t bigger than his/​her clam-​digging hands.
The day I walked into Morphic was the day the world snapped back into focus. She had an open door and welcomed me with open arms and a smile. It was a long hour of quietly flipping through celebrity gossip magazines and sipping on coconut water while Mishi snipped away. When it came time to look up, I could not recognize the figure in my reflection. The curse had officially been broken!
Admittedly, there have been a few lean months I had led been astray. Each attempt only resulted in the reminder of the superior care Mishi provided compared to the masses. I thank all her predecessors — for I would not have found Morphic had it not been for their poor use of scissors and razors.
A note to the ladies who continue to search: the road may be long and winding — but ultimately, when your (hair’s) heart does find a place to call home, an immense weight will be lifted from your shoulders and you’ll finally be able to feel the warmth of eternal bliss. It’s divine.
Things can be different, and they will be. Never ever ever give up!

Let’s be clear: EMI is a hair goddess.
I’ve been looking for a great hair colorist for the past 4 years, and my search has finally ended. As i first came into the homey Morphic Salon, I was greeted with warm smiles from both Emi & Mishi. I was offered coconut water (and i must add, the best coconut water I ever tasted). And from there, Emi and I consulted on what I wanted for my hair and what was practical for my budget. She was very considerate and willing to work around my budget. We ended up with a great solution! Most of the time, hair dressers just want to make money and not really ask what we want. But Emi was so kind and really making it work in my favor.
Emi is a true artist. She gave me a nice trim and a beautiful caramel-​ashy balayage. I never had such a beautiful transition of gradient hues from sun kissed caramel to a medium ash brown. EVERYTHING turned out so NATURAL. And that was exactly what I wanted. The way she painted the front to frame my face was perfection. There is no harsh lines to be found anywhere.
Also, she gives the best head scalp massages! She was patient and kind, and a pleasure to talk to. I highly, highly recommend Emi at Morphic for haircuts & for a beautiful balayage.

Let’s just say I’m super picky about every thing I do. I usually do a ton of Unilocaling and researching before picking out a restaurant or hair stylist or manicurist etc. For the first time in my life, I didn’t do that. I met Mishi & immediately knew I could trust her with my hair. That’s saying a lot, I don’t trust easily.
Mishi was so modest when I met her, I had no idea she was the owner of this 5 star salon. So when I looked up the place I was wonderfully surprised. My intuition about her was right, you can see how vibrant the photos are, and how they almost come alive. She definitely puts her heart into her work.
I didn’t do my research before the appointment, so parking was a bit difficult. Since it’s in such a popular area of San Francisco. I was slightly late to my appointment, but Mishi was super patient with me and welcomed me with a warm hug nonetheless. She offered me some refreshing coconut water upon arrival, which was perfect because I felt out of breath from my run down Market. I loved loved loved my experience there, there was never a dull moment. Plus, she taught me how to correctly pronounce Balayage, I had no idea!
My hair was a mess coming in, full of tangles, and not looking very pretty to say the least. She was so patient with my hair, combing out the infinite tangles. As she snipped of the hay of my hair, I was really calm and relaxed. Normally I watch like a hawk to make sure they don’t over-​cut like many hair stylists do sometimes. As I got a more concrete idea of what I wanted, it all started slowly coming together. She gave me the beautiful V-​line I’m fond of, with the perfect amount of layers. It’s like she read my mind! Even with the dozen of pictures I showed her. Throughout the session, she was really good at checking on me, to make sure everything was to my liking.
As she washed my hair & deep conditioned it she was telling me about the products she was putting in my hair. It all smelled so amazing. & to be honest I got distracted a little by her awesome scalp massage. By far my favorite part of any visit to the salon. So I’ll do my best to describe the products, she put a power dose into my hair which is basically a more potent form of a conditioning treatment. It’s meant for more damaged hair and has synthetic man made elements that imitate the naturally occurring elements within the hair itself to reinforce and repair the fibers within the hair. My hair is pink, so it’s definitely gone through a lot of bleach and dryness. So I would highly recommend scheduling «the works.» You’d would be doing your hair a favor!
I loved how comfortable I felt with her, not once did I ever feel pressured to do anything or buy anything. She genuinely cared about me, and my hair which in turn made me actually want to buy the products, which I usually never do. One of the products she used, I HAD to take home with me as well. The Okara radiance enhancing spray. It’s a leave in conditioner for color treated hair that detangles as well. Sounds like my perfect product in a bottle. The other product I purchased was the Floravanti clarify & shine rinse. I would’ve never even known about this if it wasn’t for Mishi. Its a cherry vinegar detangling rinse, or a mild shampoo. It’s perfect for the gym rat like myself who is active often, but trying not to shampoo my hair with harsh chemicals too much. She even threw in a spray bottle to go with it, she’s such a sweetheart! She even braided my hair in a beautiful fishtail in the end, now I know where to get my hair braided before half marathons!
My hair hasn’t felt this healthy in a very very long time. & it’s all thanks to Mishi. I’m so glad I met her. When I finally took a look in the mirror I was pleasantly surprised. The v-​cut was exactly as I wanted it with the perfect amount of layers to compliment the hair style I wanted, since she knew I was going to my colorist in a few days as well. I haven’t been that happy with a cut in years which is why I always dread hair cuts. But she was definitely worth the drive up from San Jose and the scurry down Market and everything in between. So take my advice and make sure to snag her up while you still can, she’s only taking new clients up till March!

Mishi may just be the most difficult hair cutter/​colorist/​stylist to book in all of San Francisco. The evidence? She’s no longer taking new clients… that’s how booked out she is.
And she’s completely deserving of her hair legend status. The woman can plait hair into the most artful, bohemian braided masterpieces. She can cut stubborn bangs to delicately part, if like me you’re attempting to emulate Alexa Chung’s (seemingly) effortless style. And she can color like a badass magician — just check out the photographic evidence — capable of taking Asian hair to cool blonde, pale lilac, and on-​trend grey shades in one super-​session. Do you know how difficult it is to transform hair from deep brunette to pastel without a smidge of brassiness or worse, extensive damage?
I knew God was a woman!
Her sister Emi has also learned Mishi’s craft under her watchful and always patient eye. I recently sat in Emi’s chair as a hair model while she painted glorious, shimmery blonde highlights onto my hair using the sought-​after balayage technique. Many days later, I’m still receiving compliments on my extremely natural hair color that grows out so gracefully. And gifted Emi is also an accomplished makeup artist — the girl’s makeup bag is filled with Kevyn Aucoin cosmetics… the best products and expert application go a long way.
You pay for what you get… Mishi & Co.‘s services are by no means inexpensive but they’re worth every penny. The salon experience isn’t quite as relaxing as I’d like, but it’s a small and lively space and the team is growing. My advice? Get in while you can, with anyone at Team Morphic.
And what’s next for me? An edgier pale, cool-​toned blonde shade à la Cara Delevingne. Can’t wait!

I love Mishi.
I come and see her every so often to bring some new vitality to my hair. My first time with her, I decided to chop my hair to become very short — it takes a lot of trust to do so with a new hair stylist.
But I’ve gone back to her to get a bayalange and now to grow my hair out again. I will admit she does try to sell you items for your hair like shampoo and other items, but for the most part, she doesn’t force them on you.
Overall, Mishi is great and really knows hair! All that really matters.

I absolutely LOVE this place! I hadn’t been happy with my hair in about ten years… I had even come to the conclusion that I would never love my hair but as long as I didn’t absolutely hate it I was okay. I had been to outrageously expensive salons, edgy salons, established salons… Salons recommended by friends, celebrity’s, strangers who’s hair I liked… trendy places, older stylists, younger stylists, male, female, all over California… You name it I’ve probably tried it.
Then I found Morphic and this place changed everything. Paul is absolutely amazing! He is every bit the professional but friendly and makes you feel completely comfortable while he works his magic. He asked me all the right questions and explained everything so we could both be on the same page and I was crystal clear about the process, cost and outcome of my hair. Now, three visits later I have to say, I completely LOVE my hair! I was thrilled the first time I left… I was really happy with my hair and I knew I had finally found my hair stylist… I’m never going anywhere else… But after the second visit I really, really, LOVED my hair!
I tried to figure out the catch, but they weren’t trying to peddle products or sell me services I don’t need. I really try to take good care of my long hair and I HATE cutting or trimming it. I’ve always been told I HAD to cut or trim it at least every other visit… Nope… Paul actually felt and looked at my hair and then told me I didn’t need to book that yet! He did recommend a conditioning treatment on my first visit (or maybe was my 2^nd) but also let me know how much it would be before hand and didn’t make me feel pressured at all. I don’t remember the price but it wasn’t expensive at all! It was a very good price and really did a good job.
Well I could go on and on about how fantastic Paul is but there is Maple who is… Well I am not sure of the exact title but I am going to go with super fantastic salon administrative assistant extrordinair, summa cum laude. She is so on top of everything! I have Paul as my regular hair stylist and Mishi doing my hair for my upcoming wedding and Emi scheduled for makeup. Maple has done a fantastic job with all my bookings, explaining who to go to for what, costs, services, etc. she is so friendly, great with communication and makes you feel right at home.
Last, I of course have to praise Mishi. She is so sweet and great at making you feel comfortable in her salon. When I go into Morphic I have complete blind trust I am in good hands… I would expect that feeling to come along with pretentiousness but that is not the case at all here. The place that Mishi created is such a warm and welcoming place where everyone makes you feel genuinely welcome.
I really just think you can’t go wrong here no matter who you are… Go to Morphic, you will leave happy… End of story.
