Their fry game has improved since last year. They used to be normal thick, plain, but not terrible. Now they’ve got the breaded kind that has the extra crisp to the outside. It rivals the fries at Arlequin. Outside is airy crispy, and inside is a little tender creamy potato. Magic. This review is solely based on their circa September/October 2015 fries.

They are great and convenient as i work in the building. The only downside is that the prices they have in the internet site are not the prices consistent with the prices charged. I am especially referring to the breakfast sandwich and hamburger/cheeseburger. Their prices are not as stated in their menu online. I have told the personnel and they have told me that the internet prices are wrong and have not been updated. This was about 2 months ago. While the online menu does have it where you can have breakfast for $ 4 or lunch for $ 6. In reality, your total is $ 10+. The menu says that the items comes with a side. However, they charge extra for the side dish. When I tell them I just want the sandwich or burger and nothing on the side, they state that I have to get a side. For a government building cafeteria, it is not cheap. Disturbingly, not as cheap as their menu provides. as well as their direct internet menu.

IMO the City’s Best Chowder! I would put their homemade clam chowder, served every Friday, up against any in the city – in fact, theirs is better than some of the city’s most famous! Also a great place to get a good breakfast of 2-eggs/toast/homestyle potatoes for $ 3.99.

I have tried time and time again for this café to make me happy. They use to until the first time I got a hair in my food, which was in my salad. I waited awhile to order food again and then I ordered a cream cheese lox bagel, and there was another hair and this time in my lox. And again today I ordered a simple breakfast… 1 egg over easy, with wheat toast, and there was a hair in the container under my egg. I have had food from them that was good and not had this issues. THis is my 5th hair and I have deciede i will no longer eat there, which is hard since they are easy for me to order from since they are right by my work. I will tell people not to eat there, it is just gross and not the first time. I have worked in the restaurant industry and i know there are precaustions to not have this happen. Im sorry, I was happy until now.

This review is for their breakfast. I’ve been eating here for awhile and their breakfast – simple yet satisfying is one of th e better values around in Civic Center. I normally order their two egg, toast, potatoes, and a side of extra crispy bacon. I love their bacon. they make it the way I like it. Service is always friendly and great. Plus, today. they made my pancakes mickey — shaped which was an added bonus for my morning

Love it, love them, love the food. Not out of the price range for working class. The place is clean.

Mocha’s management are at it again, cutting even more corners! Marking up vitamin water to $ 3(it costs $ 1 – 2 max resell) and then having the audacity to stock GENERIC Kirkland vita water in the next refrigerator for the exact same price!!! We all know generic does not equal the real thing in taste or cost. And a dried out hoagie roll does not equal the butter croissant that is advertised on the menu. Cheap soggy bacon strips does not equal the Canadian bacon that is advertised on the menu. What is going on here??? Mocha’s, get it together — you may need to cut costs, but what you’re really doing is just cutting quality and integrity when you try to fool your clientele into thinking you’ll provide one thing but really follow through with another — in most cases that’s just called lying. I’ve been a customer for 6+ years, but at this point I have to say I’m over it. I wanted to see improvements since my last review but it’s only gotten worse. You need to invest in the ethics of your business more than the cutting of corners, and until then you have officially lost a loyal customer. P. S. this review is in no way reflective of the actual servers/food preparers who work there. They are nothing but professional, courteous, efficient and above all ridiculously sweet and kind-hearted. I can’t give enough praise to them and I feel sorry for them in many ways as they work way harder than they should due to being understaffed. I wish I could give 5 stars to them alone, just for the hard work and service they provide.

Very good bacon. Well worth the damage to your health. Breakfast burrito w/sausage is meh Joe’s scramble(beef, spinach, eggs) is decent Vegetarian fritata — nothing special Red roasted potatoes — nothing special French toast — nothing special Good choice if you want to eat breakfast food. Won’t disappoint you, but won’t blow you away.

The food here is good for the price and area. Its not too fancy but they are fast and the grab and go isnt too bad. Good lunch place, I would recommend the eggs and toast breakfast or the salad. You get a lot for what you pay for though the lettuce may be a bit old

I am a fan! They have the best bacon, but be sure you ask for it crispy… mmmm bacon. I love my bacon with some of their oatmeal which they will fully load for you. A great deal for under $ 5 — they do sandwiches pretty righteous also. Turkey is good quality and they will take the time to make it just as you like even if you ask for tuna and egg salad mixed together… they’ll do it — maybe look at you a little funny but they’ll do it. The staff is great. They work well together and very friendly. Other great dishes are their burger meal deal which includes fries and a drink for under $ 6(I think) and their BLT’s rock.

I haven’t been to Mocha’s in the state building(455 Golden Gate Avenue) since the end of March. Their prices for lunch are too high for the quality of food they are serving, which is so-so and/or mediocre. Sure the Terrace Café at the State Fund will be closing on September 23, but that does not mean I will be back to buying my lunch at Mocha’s…me thinks not…1 star.

I work in the Civic Center area and I am very close to the State building that is home to this café. There are days where I am very unsure of what I want to eat for lunch. On these days I go to Mocha’s Café and Grill. I come here because there is a huge variety of menu items to choose from. I have had Lasagna, Burrito, Tuna Fish Sandwich, Brownies, Omelet with toast, I mean all kinds of random things. They have a salad bar which is always a plus. Sadly, even though there is an awesome assortment of dishes to choose from and a multitude of rotating daily specials. The food there has never given me that WOW factor. Prices are great but taste has always lacked. Overall this place deserves 3.5 but Unilocal wont let us do that. I will continue to eat here, just wont eat here everyday.

I come here to eat most of the time because I work so close. They have a variety of meals to choose. The only draw back to this place is that the food is over priced! It’s not your 4 – 5 star restaurant/café. If the prices were at least a couple dollars less, I would be a happy camper and rate it 4 stars. Who pays damn near $ 3 for a 12oz Gatorade? Overall, their lunch specials are good on certain days. It’s hit or miss.

I swore I wasn’t gonna do it. But I did. I thought I wasn’t gonna spend any more of my hard earned money on food today. I thought I had escaped the snack monster. But then I took a little walk down here with the wallet. it was not the wallet’s fault. It was the price of the fries. Yes. Fries. Freshly fried, salted and put into a compostable box, just for me, to bring back to my office, to eat while reading about some new tv show about a rouge Supreme Court Justice turned ACLU advocate. The fries were $ 1.75. HOLY cows on a stick! And the price for other stuff was very very reasonable too. I’m going to go more broke, I know it. There’s no way to make fries last two days. Not like the Mongolian beef I ate yesterday and today.

This is a wonderful place for a quick lunch for a VERY low price! You can get a grilled cheese with fries for $ 3.95, which is hard to come by. It is not the greatest food, but for that kind of price it earns its place on my lunch list for work! They are wonderful people that work there… always friendly and the service is fast! They are the type of people that are a treat to interact with.

Ah, the State Building. Also known as the Gov. Brown Building. Whatever you refer to it, this quick-hitter offers just about whatever your lunch heart desires; a hearty sandwich with savory sides, a waistline-conscious salad bar or a go-for-the-gold lunch special — this little-known café offers something for everyone. Every other exciting day at City Hall, I venture across the street to snag my share of turkey, cranberry and avocado goodness at this friendly and quick-serving café. I usually order the same, mundane sandwich, but there are particular, certain days when I opt for the special — like the sirloin steak salad. How awesome is that?! The short-order cook will prepare your order to perfection and the cashier’s kiosk is only a short stride away from returning to lunch hour freedom. If you are in the neighborhood in search of a place to score a satiating lunch on a whim or City Employee’s budget, this is the place to visit.

If you’ve read my previous Unilocal you know coffee and lunch are fabulous. Add breakfast to the list. Egg whites at no charge. Slices of turkey. Veggies. Side of fruit. Wheat toast. The turkey florentine was a delicious, healthy, cheap, absolutely fantastic concoction. Somehow, I’m not surprised.

Not bad for a quick bite to eat. The layout is a bit confusing at first, but the friendly guy taking orders must have seen our look of confusion and took pity on us. They have all the standard fare for lunch: salad bar, drinks, burgers and a selection of hot foods. But the best part is that they also serve BREAKFAST for LUNCH! I’ll give this place another try; the chicken in my omelet was a bit dry. 3 stars for now.

maybe i’m being biased, since i work near here. or maybe it’s because i’ve been to other buildings’ cafeterias in the area. but this place is as good as it gets for cafeteria food. standard cafeteria fare — salads, pastas, sandwiches, burgers, good selection of drinks… but i think what really stands out is the price vs. portion ratio. cheeseburger(¼ lb. angus) is $ 4.75 and comes with your choice of regular or curly fries. fills me up good. grilled chicken caesar is $ 6 and comes with baguette… trust me, the salad is HUGE. their coffee is from Peet’s too, which is a big plus. staff is nice and very accomodating.
