On a random Wednesday night– I cam here on a spontaneous double date. I was craving Bergermeister– but someone mentioned that this place was closer. I am glad we ended up coming here because it was great and just as good. Hamburgers were delicious; server was friendly; and everything was affordable. All my favorite qualities in a restaurant!

Gourmet!!! This place is about as gourmet as your local Mickey D’s. My thin and very overcooked burger, nestled into a way too big bun, shared a plate with some pretty mediocre steak fries that tasted like they’d seen the inside of a freezer for way too long. A sad piece of meat, all dressed up for the prom, is still just a sad piece of meat. Nice patio to sit with your dog… ended up feeding half my lunch to mine, but SHE wouldn’t even eat the fries. Verdict = no.

Probably the most mediocre burger I’ve had in a while. The meat was not good and the veggies are far from fresh everything combined tasted like a piece of plastics. They also managed to make french fries with no taste. The best thing they have going on is their location but there are far better places to have a burger in Hayes Valley.

Being a burger place, you’d think they could cook a burger. My Medium burger came out well done. Service is also a tad on the slower side and if you eat on the patio, beware the pigeons. Sent it back and asked again for a medium burger. Came back the second time as medium well. Barely edible, but I was starving. So dry!

This place has gone to hell. We had a dry thick day old tasting bun, cold onion rings. The burger was bearly edible, and $ 35 for 2 burgers and fries with 2 glasses of water… Really? Eat here now, cause I suspect it won’t be here much longer. BAD Bye Felicia.

Flipper’s is proof that Unilocal SF’s tip«Vegetarians Go Nuts for this Place» is not a great indicator of whether or not the vegetarian food is actually any good at said place. Flipper’s serves a weak vegetarian patty, and not a great atmosphere with no hostess and too few waiters, Flipper’s was disappointing compared to the other SF spots I visited. It’s been about a month since I was in SF, but I still remember that dining experience like it was yesterday. My friend and I were there for lunch on Memorial Day, right after having taken a bike tour next door. I had a BBQ sauce burger with curly fries. The vegetarian patty was very dry, and the burger itself was mostly bread basted with BBQ sauce. I’m confident the burger would have been much better with, say, a Field Roast patty, or even a spicier Morningstar patty. We were seated next to the front door, which doesn’t shut properly on its own. I probably stood up six or seven times to shut the door. All in all, it was conveniently located, but not very great food.

This place is in a good spot(conveniently located near theaters downtown) and it has a welcoming dining environment inside and out. And best of all, it has a diverse enough menu(for a burger place) and a nice selection of taps(for those who like to combine beer and burgers) and most of all, I just like it! My dining companion had a delicious burger that turned out to be good for halving, and sharing the remainder as a late-night snack. I had the Copenhagen style burger and although the plan was to save half for later, that was not even a possibility once the food was on the table. And best of all, when I said«medium rare» the kitchen did the right thing. Drop in and see if you have the same experience. If so, you can thank me later.

Awful… I felt really pregnant after eating here. I became so bloated from the massive amount of sodium in the food here that I was barely able to walk back to the apartment. I was so disgustingly full and uncomfortable for the rest of the night and I apparently was breathing quite heavily and fast while sleeping which does not usually happen to me. I woke up still feeling way too bloated and gross. My boyfriend felt the exact same way. I definitely do not feel like this when I eat at other burger places. The curly fries were pretty good but my veggie patty in the California burger tasted really weird and different from all the other ones I have tried in the past. I was hoping to order a refreshing beer with my burger but was unimpressed with the beer options and just stuck with my water. The worst part about this place was how dirty it was. I was sitting right next to the wall and there were weird stains on it. I did not want to touch the menu because it was so dirty and the condiments had weird particles stuck to the outside of it. As soon as I walked in, I felt my appetite disappearing. There is also a random aquarium inside with really ugly fish.

Saw lots of options on the menu. But when you look closer, you have to pay a dollar extra to get curly fries instead of french fries, another dollar for a whole wheat or gluten free bun etc. If I had ordered all the options I wanted, my burger would have ended up costing 17 $! We ordered the Flipper Dipper with teriyaki sauce(no extras in the end — trying not to go crazy) and the Papa Flip. We had asked for medium rare hamburgers but the thin patties were a bit overcooked. The bread was a bit dry to me. There wasn’t much on the Flipper Dipper burger, just a few little veggies(mushrooms and green peppers) cut up and the sauce. The fries and side Caesar salad were pretty good. Service was friendly and fast(it was 2 P.M. though). A bit overpriced for simple burgers(not gourmet by any mean): 30 $ for two. If you’re in the area and want to eat on a terrace, why not go? However, I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to reach this restaurant!

Boy has this place gone downhill. Hiring new chef and servers, not nearly as busy as others in neighborhood. Not much is special here. Average typical American diner food, not very well cooked(nb char is neither gourmet nor soulful, just unhealthy). Be adventurous in this fun neighborhood and go elsewhere!

Hole in the wall joint that is far from gourmet… but I loved every bite. Ordered the Classic Flipper’s burger which comes with two patties. Subbed my fries for caesar salad. It was really good. Wish I was hungrier but what I had was great. Staff was quick and attentive. Meal was cheap and you can tell that this place is a local gem! If you are in SF, this place is worth the trip off the beaten path. If you like burgers this place will rate in your top 15. If you like burgers, you will know that that means it is pretty great! If you don’t have a top 15, step your burger game up homey!

Looks like a clean place with a staff that’s helpful if you only ask. They don’t really think outside the box which translates to revenue lost for the owner. Prime example: waitress takes my first beer glass and doesn’t ask if I’d like another one. Lost revenue! I had the Milano Transit burger Sucked. Meat, cheese, and a spoon full of pesto. It feels like a family that’s european tasted a burger for the first time and decided to open a burger restaurant. Nothing really special wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again.

Hole in the wall type of a place. I was walking around Hayes valley and didn’t have time to wait for a table. Found this Great place instead. The burgers range from $ 10 to $ 12. You can substitute the patty for a veggie one. Funny enough it costs a little bit of extra when you ask for vegetarian one haha. Regardless, the burger was amazing. Perfect place to get some carbs in before going out for bar hopping.

Horrible service. My boyfriend and I wanted to grab a burger at new spot and decided to come here since it’s local… When we walked in, we weren’t acknowledged by the staff. There were roughly 6 other customers in the restaurant eating and 3 waitresses. They weren’t busy at all. When the staff finally acknowledged us, they said«Sit wherever you’d like.» Ten minutes go by and we still haven’t been served. We had to grab our own menus and after another five minutes, I couldn’t handle it anymore and made the decision to leave. We were ignored while the staff served everyone around us. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

I can honestly say this place was the worst meal that I have had in SF, after living here for 3+ years 1. Curly fries + french fries came to our table cold after a 25 min wait 2. Sesame seed bun on an order that asked for no sesame seeds. The waiter proceeds to bring the buns back to the kitchen after we let her know of their mistake, only to bring back another sesame seed bun… 3. slowest service ever — 30+ min wait for our food even with the restaurant relatively empty

The burgers here are decent. I ordered the salonika which is a burger with feta cheese and pepperoncini. They come with either curly fries, steak fries, or sweet potato fries. They food was a bit pricey given the relatively ordinary food. One of my friends likes Russian girls and I believe the servers are mostly Russian. We were greeted by an outgoing server who while taking our order, half jokingly called us out for our indecisiveness in choosing a pitcher of beer and implied that manly men don’t eat vegetables. I might come back

Flipper’s sits solidly at a three. It’s an ok place for lunch or easy dinner. I like that they have a patio. I like that they have menu variety. But the food itself is overall pretty OK. I ordered the spinach salad with beets, feta, onions and walnuts. The ingredients were fresh, and the salad was a fair size. I also added chicken on top which made the portion large enough for me to eat for lunch and dinner(salad also comes with a few slices of toasted bread). My biggest complaint here is that, although we ordered our food to-go, both my salad and my fiancé’s side-salad came pre-tossed with dressing — which should ALWAYS be served on the side for take-out orders. As a result, our otherwise decent salads were soggy by the time we got them home. My husband said his burger was good, but not memorable. He liked it but thought it was pricey for something pretty basic. His milkshake was rated as «good.» I would go back for a quick lunch, maybe to try some of the more interesting wraps. Due to the dressing issue I am thinking this may be a better dine-in than take-out location, unless you give them specific instructions. Note: they also did not give us any napkins, ketchup or forks with our order.

From all the Unilocal reviews, I came here with pretty low expectations but surprisingly the food was good. Service was relatively speedy, they refilled my water and checked in on our table, so all in all service was pretty good. I ordered the pollo chicken wrap and it was a generous portion and tasted pretty good. I would order it again and dine here again. Plus the outdoor seating area is really nice on a good San Francisco day.
