This place is great. It’s spacious, cozy, has free wifi, plays good music and a great selection of drinks and food. Perfect place to hang out and get some work done! And the owner Eric is friendly and interesting.
My new weekend coffee shop!

I like the vibe of this coffee shop. All i ordered was an ice coffee, so it was nothing special. However, I don’t like the brew they used. It’s very herby. I usually have my coffee black but i had to add some milk to it to cut into the herbiness (sp).
Free Wi-​Fi and Jazz are a nice touch

The neighborhood coffee shop that every other neighborhood is jealous it doesn’t have. The indie coffee shop is the hallmark of a great city.
The drinks are superb. All of them.
I love that the owner is the cashier. I also appreciate that he hosts community events and performances.
BUT THIS PLACE IS NEVER FUCKING OPEN. I want a drink in the morning before work. Closed. I want a drink after Kingdom of dumpling. Closed. I want a drink on Sunday afternoon. Closed. When I happen to drive by and have already patronized another coffee shop? OPEN! It would be intensely helpful if there were posted hours on the door. I would love to spend more money here, if only they were open.

I come here from time to time to get some work done and have always felt right at home (a home away from home) when I’m here.
Eric the owner is super cool and extremely friendly and makes an effort to get to know his customers, which of course is a huge plus for any business owner.
The drink selection is great, but I wish there was more selection on the menu snack-​wise. Maybe it’s just me though cause I love snacking all the time. Yea, I love eating.
Nonetheless, a great place to hang out and do some work in a quiet and soothing manner.

Nice soothing relaxing type of music during the day (haven’t been to any live shows yet).

this place is nice, lots of sitting areas, free wifi, seems like a okay place to study and all BUT…
the food… not so great. came here twice, ordered a sandwich and a green tea smoothie… both items took forever to make. and it wasn’t even good… someone said the green tea smoothie was hella good… but this isn’t the place where i would go out of my way to get a green tea smoothie… just sayin. the second time i went here i stuck with something safe, a bagel that took like 10minutes to make… and i only had it plain with cream cheese! come on…
I’ve experienced better… just sayin.

I remember when it used to be Green Earth Café, which I do miss at times, especially for not checking out any shows. BUUUHHHT, very grateful it is now Mocha 101.
At first, may seem like another run of the mill café, but have living in the city for 4 years now, I never found a café that had such great costumer service like Mocha 101 does.
Noticing other reviews and my own experiences with this place, their hours are inconsistent, but every other time I’ve been there, Eric has been willing to stay open later for me and anyone else needing a place to study other than SFSU’s library substitute, the Annex, and anyone else. From what I can recall, he’s stayed as late as 11:00pm for me and my mini study group. THANKS ERIC!
Their White Mocha Espresso is nothing special, but does the job in keeping me awake.
Their Matcha Green Tea Smoothie is deerishush!
Another «MEH» observation is over the internet service. It can be a littlle slow, and I have yet to figure out where the router is so I can position my laptop at an optimal position: p
Oh, it’s also right across the street from my work, so that another star from me.

One, two, three times the charm.
Or maybe not.
I hate to Unilocal hate, especially with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, but this was not a good sandwich experience.
First sandwich never arrived, as the guy admitted he put mayo on it and had to remake it. Second one did show up, but it had some dressing on that was not listed on the menu. Not cool. Third one got the ingredients right, but wasn’t sliced in half or served with any napkins or utensils. I took what I could get.
Mentioning Unilocal got me a free iced coffee, but I couldn’t help but think those first two sandwiches were an unnecessary waste. Crepes look good, hope a return visit will be better than this one.

Read some review about Mocha 101. People thinks it’s like home…
I DON’T THINK SO! I walked in one night and some friends of the café were hanging out there. Looks like some Asian Gangster. Loud and don’t consider darn about the other people in the café.
To the owner: Tell your friends to hang out somewhere else.

Mocha 101 has a great home-​y feel to it. I made my way here to kill an hour by catching up on some reading.
Immediately upon walking in to Mocha, the overall feel of the spot definteily made me feel like I was at home. There is an abundance of mix-​matched seating of two to four person tables, and individual couches. There is also an upstairs loft seating area which I loved. It was nice overlooking the main area. I would describe the loft area as very dorm-​like. I also liked the high ceiling of the café that really makes the environment feel open.
I was quickly greeted by a friendly, and might I add, good looking Asian guy at the counter. I had a Green Tea started for me while I looked at the menu for lunch. Menu is simple with various fruity crêpe options, and simple sandwich options.
Nothing really sparked my interest in terms of sandwiches, as it was a very generic list – Veggie, Ham and Cheese, Pastrami and Swiss, Turkey Avocado, Tuna. I decided on a Tuna Sandiwch for lunch.
I was a bit disappointed to realize that they didn’t have any varieties of breads to chose from. When I asked, I was told they only had sliced Wheat bread. This was fine for me considering I ordered a Tuna sandiwch, but sliced Wheat bread defintely doesn’t work with everything. I ordered my sandwich toasted and with lettuce and tomatoes.
After ordering, I made my way upstairs to the loft as I was looking for a quiet space with no one around me – very comfortable seating. However, the wait time for my sandwich definitely exceed what the normal wait should’ve been. I was getting a bit antsy as 15 minutes had passed and I had still not received my sandwich.
I went to double check on the sandwich, and realized that the guy who took my order was the only one working, as another employee didn’t show up. So I can understand the wait. He was apologetic serveral times for the wait, for which I was appreciative of.
But it was definitely not very efficient given that the food prep area is quite far away from the cashier area. So the guy disappeared for quite some time, and I noticed a little line quickly building up.
Sandwich arrived – Wasn’t impressed at all. Canned tuna simply at best. Furthermore, while my bread came out toasted, it wasn’t hot at all. Rather, it was cold like it had been pre-​toasted and been sitting around. Disappointed.
Overall, I love the abundance of spacious seating, and the upstairs loft seating. Guy working was nice and friendly. But in terms of food options, I’ve had better. I will return here just for drinks and comfortable seating to kill a few hours.

Mocha 101 is one of the better study places in the Sunset. Lots of seating room with big tables, great natural lighting coming in through the tall windows and ambiance is perfect for studying. There are also numerous plugs for powering up your electronics.
Tea is good, service is great, food is not so good, restroom is not so clean. Steam soy milk is just okay, but definitely a good alternative for the lactose intolerant. Parking is pretty good also.

Came here several times to study when it closed 11pm, so there were plenty of students around with their books and laptops.

One night I was studying, and all of a sudden, it was Comedy Night! So I stayed and watched.
Next night, I was studying, but there was no Comedy Night. BUT I got a free upgrade on my steam soy milk — awesome, really. It was soy milk, but it wasn’t excessively sweet, so it was yum. Warmed me up; really good study drink.
Chill place.

I love this place! It feels like a second home. The owner of the store is so friendly and actually remembers his customers. They also have a small upper level you can go to study where its quiet. I really recommend their smoothies especially their green tea flavor. Definitely the place to hang out while studying and enjoy comedy nights once in a while.

Haven’t been here in a while, and on my walk back from the post office, I decided to stop by for a triple americano. :3 They’ve got quite a few new things and I was like «WHOA. MIND. BLOWN.» New décor, a chess set, and a now accessible loft with lots of study space and an Edward Cullen cutout (LOL O_​_​O) adds to the chill ambiencewhatever and keeps this place as my favourite coffeehouse in the area.
And as always, free wifi, friendly staff and tasty foodssss. O:~~ nomnomnom.

I wanted to wait until they finished construction to write my review because I knew this place was going to be rad. They’re done with construction and it is rad.
They have live jazz on the weekend, w00t for live music!
Lots of places to sit, including an upper loft area. There is lots of power for your laptop and free business-​class internet service that is blazing fast.
The coffee is consistently good, though I don’t vary from my typical cappuccino so I can’t say much for the variety.
They do delicious breakfast sandwiches and just started serving these amazing omelets.
The décor is still a work in progress as this is a young coffee shop, but the owner, Eric, is a very friendly guy who is open to ideas and very receptive to feedback.

You know, I’ve come here a couple of times now, and I have to say… if you need a place to study in the Parkside, THIS is the place to be.
It’s relatively quiet, and Eric, the owner is pretty chill. Having to come here to meet with my classmates on an India project, I have to say that this was the most pleasant place to conduct that sort of business. I keep getting the white chocolate mocha, because well… if a place is called Mocha 101, their mochas better be damn good, and they are!
The décor is nice and clean, so it’s not ripped up and kinda smelly like some other cafes in the city with 25 year old couches. (Zephyr’s for example.) It’s pretty well lit, and the wifi here is great. Doesn’t feel laggy, and the food is pretty good. Had the crepes, and they were pretty awesome.
So if you need to study late night, and need some tasty pick me ups, come here. Parking pretty accessible, and you don’t have to worry about a crowd of yuppies hamming it up about their latest gadget, or what-​not. This place for being so warm and inviting, deserves 5 stars.
btw, the upstairs level is pretty cool for small meetings. We managed to fit about 6 people up there, no problem.

I really like this place. I’ve been here several times and have had different types of coffee and crepes. i remember ordering a café latte & got such a huge mug i felt compelled to be a regular customer. what’s great is the atmosphere, it’s not library quiet (for those who need it when studying), but it’s lively enough so you don’t feel totally isolated. They also have a bunch of random books and magazines for those trying to fill the time without bringing any material of their own.
i’ve been there on a Saturday twice and they have live jazz for a couple hours. it’s really nice, it’s one main group and in the last hour they have a jam session where folks sign up and play music with them. really enjoyable, you definitely feel the community on saturdays – jazz folks, students, sunset folks – whatever.
it’s just what i need when i get the actively-​looking-​but-​still-​dont-​have-​a-​job-​yet blues… i got there for a comfortable atmosphere while their wifi helps me gets me productive online.

Second time visiting… I dont like giving two star reviews unless there is a real reason to. Dont get me wrong the owner is really a nice guy and he will go out of his way to make it comfortable for you.
But thats where it all stops, customer service is great and thats what the stars are for… I had the crepes and ever since one reviewer said it was better than Genki’s I just had to try it… and I was very very dissappointed. Maybe its a different style? or maybe its a different taste? I dont know, I’ve been to Genki 3 times with amazingly done crepes, same with Sophies and also with Belly good. I will tell you if the crêpe is good or bad and I won’t sugar coat it.
What makes the crêpe so good? Well its really the batter, everyone practically has the same toppings or combinations as each other but what stands out is the batter. Everyone has their own style of crêpe and that is what makes it stand out. The place I work out right now has mediocre crêpe, I would not recommend it to anyone at the moment since its still so mediocre, plain and not worth noticing.
I ordered a crêpe, and yes the ice cream and strawberries were very delicious. but the crêpe itself was bland, there was no flavor but the taste of flour futher more it was limp and somewhat crispy and then it turned soggy. I just could not finish all of it cause it really made me feel like I was eating soggy soggy floury crêpe. and this was all a couple min into eating it. I did not leave it lying around for 10min and then start. any crêpe would be soggy after laying around with ice cream for 10min. Maybe this is just his style of crêpe and I’m very sure there are lots of people who enjoy it this way, but as you can see in my book it doesn’t cut it.
I will go back again and try out their coffee once more, maybe that last time it was just a bad batch of beans, who knows…
Eric I will give you the benefit of the doubt and give you that extra star to make it 3. In my eyes you are the only reason why this coffee shop is up, it is your friendliness and willingness to have good rapport with your customers.

Fine, these may be just card board cut outs but they add a slight charm to the coffee house.
On a foggy day, I hip hop outside and there is nothing better than chilling at a nice friendly coffee house.
The coffee colored interior pairs well with the Mocha theme.
Aside from the crepes and beverages, the coffee house draws customers because of a bleached colored hair owner, Eric.
This is my first time actually chilling here and I have met some cool people. Perhaps this is place is a new extension of my living room. There are scenic pictures, TLC playing in the background, and comfy sofas. For video game geeks, knock yourself out at the Street Fighter arcade. Yes, Ryu rules.
This coffee house is intimate, reminding me Ross and Rachel from friends chilling and talking about non sense.
Music shifts from hip hop all the way to Japanese animé music.
Eric (owner) is a character himself. He said that he started this place so that he can put out his robot and shoe collection. Raised in New Orleans, he considers himself CASIAN (Cajun + Asian). I like the fact that he gets to know his customer, asking for their names.
Perhaps in this economy and hectic world, customer recognition goes a very long way.
So finally, a treasure coffee shop has arrived in Sunset.

Another coffeehouse has moved in this same location that was recently Green Earth Café (and Sunset Café before that). Each time the owner changes, the building gets a new paint job. The brown color of Mocha 101 is an improvement and the furniture is nicer now. They’ve kept the free wi-​fi and bathroom but changed the menu and the coffee.
The coffee comes from SF’s own House of Coffee. I find that HOC tends to taste burnt but Mocha 101’s latte didn’t have that overroasted taste (the milk seems to have helped). The latte was decent though expensive ($ 3.75 for a small). You get a discount if you bring your own cup.
The menu seems to be limited but I think they are still working on it since they just opened. They have crepes but they’re all sweet and not available in the morning (I would love to see some savory crepes). For breakfast they have a limited selection of bagels, donuts, Danish and croissants. Maybe the crepes are good but the rest of the food seems run of the mill (so far, from what I can tell). For lunch they have two types of sandwiches.
I wanted to get some work done and the environment was distracting because the TV was too loud (a loud TV is depressing, music is better and more coffeehouse like). The owner is nice but too chatty. I just wanted to focus on my work. And I really don’t like talking to people before I’ve had my cup of morning coffee.
The service was slow and disorganized. The girl who works there didn’t know how to use the credit card machine. Since they are new, I can understand that they’re still figuring things out.
