Waited 45 minutes for my appointment which lasted a total of 5 minutes. It would be one thing if this was the exception and not the norm. However, this is the 3^rd appointment where he has been 30+ minutes late. Add to that a staff that doesn’t keep patients apprised of how far behind he’s running, nor knows the meaning of customer service, and there’s no reason to ever return here. And, after my 5 min appointment, Dr Dans actually asked if I’d like to go ahead and book my next appointment. Really?!! If his patients were to be continuously 30 – 45 min late, how understanding would he be in return? I’m guessing that instead, it would be met with a nice bill as penalty.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Dans today to discuss several bothersome issues. He is extremely professional and did a wonderful job explaining his findings. I will definitely see him for all my future dermatological needs and highly recommend him.

Lousy medical care is easy to find and this establishment is no exception — what they excel at is bad service, unhelpful and under educated desk staff who are more inclined to find a way to bill you than to bill your insurance.
Avoid at all costs. Great alternatives with fantastic services are all over the city and even around the corner.

The receptionist was slurring her speech and appeared to be disoriented and confused when I called at 10:30 am on a Monday. Telling me things like «fyi: this is tough» and «oopsie»
Doesn’t sound very professional to me.

I’m a new patient of Dr. Dans, having recently moved to The City from the East Bay and needing to relocate my medical care and needs closer to my new residence. My dermatology issues are few and minor, and as a practicing pharmacist, I deal with medical practitioners of many stripes and types on a daily basis. Accordingly, I have a lot to compare Dr. Dans to. With regard to the dreaded «wait time» issue, I am happy to report that in each of two office visits, my wait time was minimal. I understand that office «production» and scheduling are subject to many factors and variables, hence a few negative comments about timeliness is no big surprise. I experienced, nor did I notice, that wait times were excessive or even a problem. As for Dr. Dans’ professional and communication skills, I have only the highest regard for his expertise in both. His evaluation and remediation of my rather minor dermatology issues, and his thorough explanation of his treatment regimen were detailed in terms that any lay person could easily understand. Further, I was impressed by Dr. Dans noting a need for patient compliance, which is something I deal with on a daily basis in the pharmacy. As far as the office staff is concerned, my experience was also five star: courteous, efficient, and thoroughly knowledgeable about insurance and billing issues. Communication from the office about appointment reminders, etc. is state of the art, and I had a complete Patient Visit Report in my email fifteen minutes after leaving the office. Way to go!

Took some time and patience to get an appt as a new patient, solution is to call at 9am and check about cancelations.

I hate to say it but after being a patient for 5+ years when I have an ezema outbreak, they can’t get me an appointment for 9 days. Obviously I need treatment when it happens, not later. Considering it would take the doctor about 5 minutes to look at the skin patch I’ve had before and issue a new perscription. It seems doctors should try to get their loyal patients in quickly when they need it– that is the basics of any professional service and the way my other doctors work. I hope no one else has to deal with this.

I was a patient of Dr. Dans and came to him with a skin condition that was very difficult to diagnose. I felt as though I were treated as a guinea pig and was given a regimen of prednisone that significantly worsened my skin condition, when I was tapered off too quickly.
Dr. Dans read AFTER he prescribed the prednisone that a slow taper was better for my condition, yet did not bother to do this research prior to prescribing it. If it’s a rare condition (his words), then wouldn’t you do that research beforehand? PS — my skin has not yet fully healed from being covered in papules/​lesions.
His bedside manner also leaves a lot to be desired. When you’ve been suffering from an unknown condition for years, there needs to be a TWO-​SIDED conversation and he seemed annoyed by my questions and suggestions. I’ve been living with this thing, so yeah I have an opinion.
To be fair, he did refer me to UCSF after tersely stating that there was nothing else he could do for me. I’m not out to ruin anyone’s reputation but this is an honest depiction of my experience going there.

I was a patient of Dr. Harold Schneidman before Dr. Dans took over his practice. Dr. Dans has impressed me as a physician who is caring & consistently delivers outstanding care. Today well after the close of business he called me to let me know UCSF had posted in Apex my biopsy results as negative. Very reassuring! Thank you, Dr. Dans.

I had seen another doctor who didn’t help, and in fact may have made a rash I had even worse. Sometimes doctors only make time to talk about one thing, Dr. Dans made time (and didn’t seem rushed or disingenuous) to discuss the rash as well a few other issues. He knew exactly what was going on with the rash and why it had gotten worse. Then, instead of writing a prescription he gave me a sample of the medicine (thinking of my pocket book); he did offer to write a full prescription as well, in case the sample size was not enough. He also gave me a few other samples, coupons in case I wanted to buy, and directions for use for over-​the-​counter products. An overall smart, kind and genuine doc. I’d recommend him to a friend, and anyone on Unilocal.PS The office staff were great too – they offered me water, soda, coffee and candy while I waited!

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Dans for many years. He is very knowledgeable and caring, with excellent communication skills. After some less-​than-​stellar dermatologists in San Francisco, it was a pleasure to find Dr. Dans. His staff is superb, too. Even men in his waiting room have told me how much they like him.

My husband is a patient of Dr. Dans and after observing the great treatment he gets, I scheduled an appointment with the Dr. for myself.
I had a long-​standing, terrible scalp condition and Dr. Dans finally helped me clear it up with a three-​pronged effort of solutions, ointment, and shampoo. Many other drs have tried but no one could help me before and it just wouldn’t go away.
Dr. Dans is very knowledgeable, well-​educated, caring, and thorough and we both highly recommend him.

I had a great experience with Dr. Dans. He helped me with my acne and I love my skin now. I would recommend him to anyone I know. Really great guy and he really knew what he was doing.

I’ve seen Dr. Dans a couple of times for relatively minor issues. In my experience, he has been friendly, efficient and highly proficient. I would not hesitate to recommend him to good friends and family.

Dr. Dans has been my dermatologist for the past 4 years and have proven to be very effective for a number of skin aliments. He has treated me for skin moles, skin rashes, acne, skin tags, dark spots and most recently for these mysterious bumps on my forehead which were so unsightly. He prescribed an ointment that removed them after 2 weeks of treatment. I have had to wait to see him for an appointment, but that’s because of his busy schedule this past summer. He has hired another specialist so that should alleviate that situation. I have absolutely no complaints about his knowledge or how he treated and cured my skin problems.
The fees that are charged are very competitive but more important than the cost is his ability to cure my skin problems. What good is a cheap rate if a doctor can’t cure you?
My son went to see him this week and found him to be understanding and very patient regarding his acne problem. Dr Dans prescribed acne medication for his face and will follow up with him next month.
The office staff is to be commended too, the receptionist and nursing staff are professional and greets you as soon as you step into the office. If there’s any questions regarding insurance, co payments, payment arrangements, they are quick to address them and can answer most questions. The staff has been with the doctor for many years and that bodes well for Dr. Dans.
I highly recommend his services.

I have been very happy with Dr. Dans, after being less pleased with several other dermatologists. He has a quiet style, but communicates clearly. Unlike my previous dermatologist, he has always been willing to answer my questions and discuss points of interest. I see him every 6 months, and at the beginning of each appointment he brings up what we addressed last time – he obviously has taken a few minutes to review my chart and refresh his memory. I appreciate that he doesn’t just walk in cold. Although I’m seeing him to be checked to make sure that skin cancer doesn’t recur, he’s helped with little things like pigment spots and funky toenails.
I really appreciate that he doesn’t try to sell me overpriced skin care products or unnecessary cosmetic procedures. This is one reason I prefer him to some other dermatologists I’ve seen.
Given this, I don’t think he over-​emphasized fees. I’ve read a few reviews where people were furious because his office staff tried to collect all the information they could to ensure he’d get paid. Given that insurance companies now take lot of the money that physicians used to get, and that doctors often get stiffed when neither the insurance nor patient wants to pay, I don’t think it’s out of line for the staff to try to make sure Dr. Dans gets his fee.
I notice that Dr. Dans’ reviews, and a lot of other physicians’ reviews on Unilocal,report a surprising amount of discontent with office staff. Maybe, when we’re concerned about our health, we feel vulnerable and become very sensitive. In any case, I haven’t had any problem with the staff in this office. Like Dr. Dans, they are low key, even shy, but they have always been courteous and competent. I think some people go to doctors for cosmetic care in part because the experience is kind of emotionally nurturing. This would not be the place to come to if that’s the primary thing you’re after.
I selected Dr. Dans because he was recommended both by a good friend and by my regular doctor. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to see a dermatologist for healthcare purposes.

I have had a good experiences with Dr. Dans so far.
I went in to see him with concerns about a few old and new scars (from injuries, burns and bug bites) and a few other skin conditions. He was realistic about what to expect from each of the recommended treatments for my conditions. He could have given me false hope about fading and erasing my scars, but he did not. I appreciated that. The results of treatment that he recommended and administered for one of my skin conditions were excellent — they exceeded my expectations! The condition is now gone and the treatment to eradicate it left no scars, which was my main concern.
I recommend Dr. Dans. Be real… It isn’t easy to feel comfortable when you are showing and talking to a doctor your abnormal skin conditions. Dr. Dans does his best to make you feel comfortable.

I have no idea if Dr. Dans even exists. I made an appointment — got phone calls for 3 days before the appointment telling me to bring my medical card and a photo idea and: «Arrive 10 minutes early!» Ok, I get it! There’s this thing called email… have you heard of it?
I arrived 20 minutes early. Before 1, the help gave me papers to fill out and sign.
Shortly after 1, they escorted me to a dingy room to be examined. I sat in a cheap white plastic chair for 45 minutes looking at the dirty floor, the scuffed up base boards and the exposed wiring job on this ancient building. When my phone said «1:45» that’s when I left. I’d rather die of melanoma than have this guy be my doctor.

Dr. Dans’ colleague in the practice told me I have eczema but said we should also do a biopsy to find out more. He cut out some skin, stitched me up, and later concluded that… I have eczema. No more information. The biopsy was unnecessary and it left a scar.
When I went for a follow-​up visit to remove the stitches, Dr. Dans himself removed the stitches, but charged me for the service when it should have been included in the previous bill, because his colleague was on vacation and their office staff didn’t let me know that I’d need to see a new doctor. These guys appear to enjoy double-​billing.
I recommend against Dr. Dans and his colleagues.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Dans for over 4 years. I don’t see him for cosmetic work, but I see him for yearly skin exams. In the time I’ve known him, he’s biopsied a bump on my arm, removed 3 suspect moles on my back and, has always been kind. He’s also cauterized some skin tags. Great work.
I have long waits and short waits.
I have had a couple of snags with insurance/​billing: I have a PPO and no co-​pay and was asked to pay a co-​pay when I first started seeing him. Now that they know how my insurance works, I don’t have problems and do not get asked for co-​pays anymore.
