Specialties

McVicker Pickles makes unique pickles, mustards and jams by hand using fresh ingredients sourced from local farmers and producers. We take traditional recipes from the Heartland and «Give ‘em the McVicker» with fresh flavor combinations that reflect modern California tastes. All of our products are made in small batches right here in San Francisco.

History

Established in 2012.

McVicker Pickles was launched by Kelly McVicker in 2012. Born and raised in Kansas, Kelly learned all about pickling and canning from her grandmas Margarett and Harriet. She brought those traditions with her to San Francisco where she soon found herself haggling over boxes of cucumbers at the farmers market, and loving it.

Kelly is awesome and her pickling skills are top notch. We did a class with her where she taught a big group of us about pickling, and then we got to make our own jar full of pickled veggies and another jar full of handmade sauerkraut– yum!
Kelly is super knowledgeable about the process and food in general, and makes the class super fun for all sorts of different people (we had a group of close to 15).
In addition I had previously bought a jar of spicy green beans from her previously, which were out of this world. If you like spicy foods and veggies, you have to get a few jars of different things, they are amazing.
Definitely recommend McVickers whether you need a fun team event or are just hungry and looking for a healthy tasty snack.

Kelly McVicker of McVicker Pickles can pickle anything, and make it delicious. Everything I’ve tasted has been awesome. She may be leading the movement towards a ‘Pickle World’!
Not only are the pickles tasty, the classes Kelly teaches are mucho fun, and the best way for anyone in the Bay Area to learn to Pickle! Anything! McVicker Pickles is a front runner in the foodie movement. Everyone should give them a try.

McVicker Pickles are insanely delicious, and I don’t even like pickles! (Shhhh. .. don’t tell my pickle-​loving father. He’d be crushed.) My personal fave are the rosemary heirloom carrots. MmmmMMMMM. She also makes this ridiculously decadent bacon jam that is good on basically everything.
Kelly was kind/​ingenious enough to come up with a custom blueberry bourbon BBQ sauce for my BBQ-​obsessed husband (he’s from KC but lives in LA now, where good BBQ is at a complete deficit). It was so delicious, we decided to commission a huge batch of it as party-​favors for our wedding! She chose darling little jars and even helped to adhere a sweet label to our liking, and our guests continue to tell us how yummy the sauce was. And apparently it is REALLY good on turkey burgers.
I’ve yet to take one of Kelly’s classes, but I hear they are the bee’s knees. Go get your pickle on, San Franciscans!

Kelly was so wonderful and so was her class! We organized this with a bunch of friends (11 of us in total) at Kelly’s apartment for a friends 30th birthday. Kelly personalized the experience for us to make it even more special. We brought out own snacks and wine and Kelly busted out some pickle backs to add to the fun. We played music, learned to pickle and had a great time! I definitely recommend this!!!

I didn’t know pickles could be so awesome!
Until recently, I had mostly only had a few pickled things: cucumbers, kimchi, okra, etc. After trying Kelly’s pickled grapes, strawberries, and more my eyes were opened. Wow… THIS is what pickles can be?
Definitely worth checking her stuff out. I really want to take one of her classes soon. I also love her labels and graphic style.

McVicker Pickles are excellent. The diversity of pickled products and flavors Kelly has put together is amazing. She’s definitely got something for everyone! Of those I’ve tried, the brussels sprouts were my favorites. Which is particularly noteworthy because as a general rule, I really don’t like brussels sprouts.
There are so many more products I can’t wait to try! Definitely get your hands on some asap. Also be sure to keep an eye out for classes and workshops by owner Kelly McVicker, they’re a blast.

McVicker Pickles are absolutely delicious and unusual. I especially like her pickled asparagus, but they are all good and very unique. She uses a wide variety of herbs and spices to make each creation a tasty treat. She also makes stuff like specialty mustards and cocktail garnishes in addition to interesting variations on cucumber pickles, pickled beets and carrots, saurkraut, and many, many others.
Last night I attended Kelly McVicker’s course: «Master the Art of Pickling with the Founder of McVicker Pickles.» You will learn all about pickling and spices with lots of tips and tricks to pickle your favorite vegetables.
Kelly is super knowledgeable and very warm. An SF treasure, really. Her class will piqué your interest in creating your own pickles. I’m certainly not a cook, but I learned enough to get started and have some good ideas about ingredients, and what I would like to pickle.
