If a deal sounds too good to be true, than it is! I’m just glad Groupon refunded my money back before I went here. All these reviews are horrible regarding the hair issues, and no way was I going to take a risk in a lousy job performed.

I am pleased with the hombre style that Matthew created on my hair. The price for the work that he did was great! I plan to use his services again. Matthew is very friendly and fun and makes the visit a treat!

I had an appointment with Matthew last week for a Brazilian Blowout. I’ve been having them done on my hair for over six years. I know what a Brazilian looks, feels and smells like. I know how my hair acts when I have one. Matthew is NOT using Brazilian Blowout product. Two days after my appointment my hair was curly again, after ONE SHAMPOO! He dabbed a bit of the generic straightening product on bits of my hair and didn’t do to the brushing and blow dry after. Just gave it a quick once over and a quick straight ironing. This NOT HOW ITS DONE! Please, don’t go to him! I got my money back from Groupon. He’s a joke.

Save your self the 80 dollars on groupon. I bought a groupon for the keratin treatment but it was a total waste of money. There is no difference in the before and after of my hair. It was a rushed job and he skimped on the products. He hardly used any product on my hair. You get what you pay for they say but here you get nothing. He even tried to skip the hair wash to rush through it. No wonder he has an offer for unlimited keratin treatment for 200. Rather get it done once with that 200 but go at a better Salon. I am very disappointed by it. Should have checked the reviews before.

Matthew is a brilliant colorist! I used to have my hair colored by him and always got lots of compliments on it. He moved away for awhile and I was so disappointed. I had several other people color my hair and never got the great results I get with Matthew. When I discovered he was back in the city, I immediately went back to him and am once again thrilled with my color and am getting lots of compliments! I am surprised by the negative reviews on here, but see they are mostly for blowouts. Try Matthew for color — he is great at it! Not to mention he is a total sweetie and will have you laughing non stop.

Note to self: always read Unilocal reviews before making an appointment with a random from groupon. Matthew was a great, fun person, but so unprofessional and unprepared. I showed up at the salon on the dot of 6:15, and he had 2 people in front of me, so we didn’t get started until 7 pm. I had missed a meeting for work to make it on time, which was a mistake. I understand if you’re running behind, but at least text me to let me know so I don’t waste my time.
So I patiently sat and waited, and by the time he was ready for me he was so flustered that he applied he blowout product only to the top half of my hair, and a little bit on the sides, leaving the back and bottom part untouched. I had a feeling he missed it, but didn’t say anything. A couple days later I washed my hair and was super disappointed. So I texted him to ask him to redo the bottom part since I didn’t get what I paid for. So he agreed and made an appointment, but he day of, I text him to confirm a couple hours before, and he says he has to cancel bc of issues at the salon.
A couple days later I ask if he’s available and he offers to do a house call. He tells me he’ll be there at 2:30, but doesn’t show up until 5 pm. Seriously? So he does the process again and AGAIN focuses on the top part, kind of neglecting the bottom part which was the whole point, and it was bc he had forgotten that I had been to him the week before. Gah. What a waste of money. I found the product on Amazon for 15 $ cheaper and I’d do a better job on myself at home. Sweet, fabulous guy, but very difficult to work with. Sorry Matthew.

I made an appointment online weeks earlier. I got a text the day of saying that he needed to push it back. I went for a Brazilian blowout, and this is the worst one I’ve gotten. He didn’t do the normal steps that other stylists do, such as washing and drying my hair. Other Brazilian blow outs I’ve received take at least 1.5 hours, yet he did it in 25 min. When I washed my hair the next day (yes, I used sulfate free products) there was no difference from before the Brazilian. I wasted my money.

The woes start right with his scheduling system. The online booking itself is so weird that multiple appointments can be blocked. There isn’t a notification system that notifies you about the upcoming appointment. He rents out a chair with the DNA Salon and doesn’t really work there. So salon DNA doesn’t really hold any appointment systems. My appointment is at 1:15 and I had to wait 45 minutes! Outright ridiculous ! This place has to disassociate itself with this stylist!
The product he uses is diluted and you can notice it as he sprays the product using a spray bottle and skimps on it ! Spray bottle? Really ?
Avoid this unprofessionalism !

I bought a Groupon for Mathew G at Salon DNA for Balayage Highlights. I made an appointment with him at 2pm and arrived right on time. When I got there he already had another client in his chair. He said to wait about a half hour. I waited about 40 minutes before I sat in the chair. I told him what i wanted and showed him a few pictures and right away he said It is impossible for him to do that to my hair. When you go to a salon you tell them how you want it not how they can do it. He was just really rude and unprofessional. He said to think about what I wanted to do to my hair while he goes outside to check on his motorcycle that was being towed. Now It was 3:15 and another one of his clients came to him for her appointment. I told him to do what he reccomended he should do to my hair and he said he can’t do it anymore to make an appointment for next week! So Rude and not professional ! I left without getting my hair done. Do not go to Mathew G!

Matthew G is as good as it gets in terms of hair straightening and cuts. I’ve had hair straightening done in the past at other salons on my incredibly curly and unruly hair and it often yields no results. Not so with Matthew G! He does an impeccable job, and he is reasonably priced for the work that he does. My blowout will last for months at a time, and after two blowouts, my pincurls are now reasonable waves. It makes blowdrying your hair straight much faster and easier too. Go to Matthew G and you won’t be disappointed with your straight hair!

I should’ve written this review months ago. I went to Matthew for a Brazilian Blowout that I’d purchased via Groupon. He texted me the morning of my appointment asking if we could move the time back. I agreed, but when I arrived he was still doing someone else’s hair and I had to wait anyways.
He ended up bringing me over to his station while the other girl he was doing sat processing. He quickly washed my hair and then spritzed the keratin treatment through my hair. He was not thorough at all with the process (I ended up leaving with barely a difference in the texture of my hair).
After he finished the girl next to me, I thought he’d have more time for me, but another girl arrived for him. He kept glancing over at the waiting room at the girl and then proceeded to ask me if I wouldn’t mind waiting because the other girl seemed like she was getting impatient. Even though I thought this was odd, I said «okay,» and sat doing nothing while he started a balayage on the other girl.
He painted her highlights on in under ten minutes and before I knew it, she was getting washed out. When she returned to the station with Matthew there was virtually little difference to her hair. He put a serum in it and then motioned that she was finished. Her hair was sopping wet.
She asked him if she could get it dried a little and he laughed it off and agreed. However, once he started blow drying, he told her he couldn’t dry it fully because of the serum/​mask he put in her hair. With that said, the girl left with very damp hair and no noticeable balayage.
I’ve gotten the Brazilian done multiple times over the years, and this was by far the worst. It is a shame because Matthew is fun, but his customer service is simply very poor.

Avoid this guy! I bought a Groupon for the Brazilian Blowout.. .sometimes great deals can be had on there, but sometimes t «you get what you pay for.» I have been getting Brazilian Blowouts for years, and Matthew G’s was the most rushed blowout I’ve ever gotten. He skipped an entire step, and consequently, the blowout did not last as long as it should have. Now I get an email that he is offering the Brazilian for $ 50.. .people, no no no! That’s how much the smoothing solution costs per unit from the manufacturer. I would be very concerned I was getting diluted or knockoff Blowout serum applied to my hair for that price.

I bought a Groupon Voucher for a Keratin treatment with Mathew.
I arrived on time for my appointment and after waiting for an hour where no one acknowledged me (appart from the girls from Salon DNA) I could see that he was running late with 2 other ladies waiting before me. They were not happy either. Matthew was too busy chit chatting with the lady he was doing at that moment.
He has rented a portion of the Salon DNA, he does not belong to it. I just wanted to stress this because the staff from Salon DNA is great and actually saved my day by admitting me and doing a great job on the Keratin. I was told that my situation happens a few times a day where a client comes for Matthew and ends up taking an appointment with the girls at Salon DNA. By the way, they are Brazilians and really know how to do a Keratin treatment, I am super happy with mine.
Matthew is the most unprofessional stylist I have ever seen. If you cant fulfill your appointment, dont overbook yourself and you will have more happy customers.

I bought a Living Social deal for a Balayage and after reading the reviews on Salon DNA’s Unilocal page, I saw that half of his customers were satisfied while the other half weren’t. I almost called Living Social to get a refund since my views were so shakey but I already had an appointment so I decided to go in anyway. First off, I waited 45 minutes before he even got started because he was working on multiple people. He put small amounts of bleach in my hair and only left them in for five-​ten minutes total. This did nothing to my hair. After getting it washed out, it was very clear that there was no difference. He kept saying it would take 2 – 3 weeks to wash out and if it didn’t for me to call him back to setup another appointment. 2 – 3 weeks came, I reached out, he replied saying I should come in again, and after that silence. I’ve tried reaching out on multiple occasions and finally had enough and reached out to Living Social. They tried contacting him themselves and no response, so they granted me a refund. It’s really unfortunate because Matthew has a very unique and fun personality but his customer service and business is a sham. Don’t waste your time or your money. You will pay to get nothing and will end up feeling disappointed and cheated in the end.

Didn’t have a good experience at all. He asked me to come 15 minutes earlier and when I arrived at the time requested, I had to wait 30 minutes and continue to wait throughout the appointment. When I arrived home and looked at the back of my head, my hair had waves. He didn’t iron my hair properly; therefore, he didn’t apply the Brazilian blowout cream properly.
I’ve had this treatment done before, and haven’t had an issue as this time. Perhaps he was overbooked or distracted but it didn’t work out for me.

Being a curly haired (frizzy most of the time), girl all my life, I have always been on a quest to not have straight, flat hair, but just calm, shiny, bouncy, tame hair… my hair only better! Matthew was able to make my dream come true with his Brazilian blowout! I have had other’s that didn’t work out so well, but Matthew’s was perfect. He is fast yet efficient. I found him on living social and have already booked my next appointment!
