Cara Shenson Hair Colorist

Im from out of town and was in SF a few weeks ago for a wedding weekend and had some time to kill. I decided to be productive and touch my roots up since I hadn’t had a chance to in weeks back home. I took a risk and came in to this cozy salon and had the pleasure of being served by Cara. She was sweet, listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered. I’ve honestly never had a more relaxing experience in a salon and will definitely come back if I’m in town again. Cara — thank you!!!

She is so personable, professional, and very creative when it comes to her work. She has an eye for color and she delivers exactly what I ask for and more every time.
I had very bad luck with salons and coloring my hair in the past. So much so I had to cut all my hair up to above my shoulders a year ago to allow my hair to grow out naturally again… and I have very kinky curls so it takes forever to grow. Naturally, I was quite reticent about coloring my hair again. A friend of mine regularly goes to Cara. Every time I saw my friend, I would always ogle the amazing layers of color and watch Cara’s coloring evolve month after month. Then it got to a point where I simply had to see what she could do to my hair! I was not disappointed. My hair looks great and fun just how I like it. It’s great that she also has curly hair. She can approach my hair knowing very well how to handle and take care of it. This is a ginormous plus.
Thanks to Cara, I can color my hair again with confidence that it will turn out AMAZING every time. I’ve DEFINITELY made her my number one color gal and I highly recommend her to anyone wanting to go bold and daring with color.

Cara is amazing!!! Let me start off by saying that I don’t let anyone cut my hair. EVER. I have natural red hair that grows EXTREMELY SLOWLY so I have always been afraid of people holding scissors. But I finally manned up and walked into the salon yesterday for a keratin treatment and haircut and I am SO GLAD I DID!!! My hair went from a scraggly split-​ends mess to smooth and sleek with amazing layers! I couldn’t be more happy with the awesome styling job Cara did! Not to mention we decided to try dying my eyebrows (due to the fact that they are nearly invisibly with their natural light blonde color) and she did a great job of finding the perfect color to suit my natural red-​hair and complexion. I am so excited to have found Cara and I can’t wait to go back!!!

For YEARS I dyed my naturally-​dark-​brown hair black. Permanent dye black. Evil, EEEEEVIL won’t-get-off-your-hair-easily black. One day I decided that I could magically lift said maleficent black dye from my hair with a color lift. Hah! I SO screwed up my already-​screwed-​up-​because-​black-​hair-​dye-​DUH hair and called Cara, whom I had never met and whose number had been given to me by the recipient of some of her glorious work. I very calmly left her a panicked voice mail and she called me back and was just the sweetest and kindest and most understanding woman ever. I loved her right then and there.
And then I met her. And she saved me. And I look fabulous. She took my hair as light as it could go and now I am growing out what I need to grow out before I go back for more. I love myself again. I no longer have to stare at my face, contrasted against the evil black that washed me out and harshened my look so. I no longer hold self loathing in my heart. Life holds hope for me. I cry tears of joy, JOY, because THAT is what good hair does to me and I have good hair once more because of Cara.
And so I even entrusted my offspring unto her magical hands and her masterful ways. My once-​dark-​haired 14 year-​old now has lavender hair. This IS San Francisco, after all, and she DOES need a colorist for this rite of passage and there was no one better to embark on this journey with than Cara.
If you are looking for a colorist, look no more. Call Cara. Cause if you don’t, you seriously suck. Got it? Good!

Cara made me feel beautiful again! She did amazing highlights and some balayage and really made my hair feel soft and alive again… which I did not think was possible. She also rocked my blow dry and gave me a super cute style. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to get color. She is affordable, super sweet, and seems to genuinely love working with clients and doing hair.

Cara is amazing! Went back to avail of her services and once again delighted! It’s so hard to find a decent hairdresser in the city for blonde highlights and a cut. She also toned my hair I’m so happy to have revived hair again that feels amazing!

It was my pleasure to work with Cara again. She listens to what you want and tells you what you can expect. The color turned out fantastic and my hair looks so much healthier! She also gave me an amazing blowout! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a talented professional in the city.
