Established in 2009.

Sara Levy Linden created Mahj Club to teach mah-​jongg and bring friends together through games. Mahj Club’s principles are based on creating group rituals, cultivating relationships and promoting social activities. We thrive on connecting friends in-​person and offline.

Business Owner

Sara Levy Linden, Founder, has been a Mah-​jongg enthusiast for over 16 years and is at the forefront of the Gen X Mahj Renaissance. Her early skills were honed alongside her mother, over whom she now regularly triumphs! While Sara’s professional career moved her around the United States from Scottsdale to Charleston to San Francisco, she began creating Mahj clubs to connect with peers in new cities. By building Mahj communities and friendships, Sara believes Mahj is the key to leaving daily stressors behind.

Recently took a beginner Mah jongg class from Sara and it was wonderful. Sara taught the class in a way that was clear, understandable and fun. I definitely left the course with an enthusiasm and interest in learning more! Highly recommend her.

Just finished 3 classes of Beginner Mahj Jongg with Sara as part of a group of 8. I came in knowing nothing about the game. By the end of the 3rd class, I came away confident in the mechanics of playing. Being good at it will take some practice. Sara is great at handling questions and making sure you understand the answer. Looking forward to taking her intermediate class in a few months after I have some experience under my belt.

Our group had a blast learning Mahj Jongg with Sara! She was clear, patient, and offered many tools for learning including books, acronyms, and her own handouts with tips and outlines. We had a group of six and she was fantastic at setting up our lessons and games so that we all continued to learn at our own paces (a couple of us had played Mahj previously and never felt like we were held back by those who had never played). I really looked forward to our weekly sessions and I’m glad that even after our lessons finished, she has offered us resources for continuing our play. I really hope to see Sara at a game again, she is the best!

My mom had been playing mahjongg for a long time, and had long suggested I learn how to play it. She said it was a great, cerebral strategy game. Didn’t know how to go about learning so I just filed it away in my memory for another time. That was probably 10 – 15 years ago.
Enter Sara and Mahj Club.
Some people have a gift for explaining things they know very well to people who don’t know the first thing about it. Sara is one of those people. Under her terrific, patient tutelage, I rather quickly learned both the basics and intricacies of the game and was able to begin playing immediately. She provided ongoing «over the shoulder» tips and advice during those first few games that have helped me as I’ve gone on to play on my own.
Now I get to show up my mother who’s been playing for a lot longer than I have. Should’ve learned to play at Mahj Club, mom!

Mahjong is my new favorite game and it’s thanks to Sara at Mahj club. She taught us with patience and very clear, memorable ways to retain the rules and strategies. If you’ve never played mahj before, i would totally recommend taking a class with Sara. Bring her in to teach a group of your girlfriends… trust me, you’ll want to get together to play every day in no time! Thanks, Sara! :)
