Lycée Français de San Francisco is the only exclusively French immersion school in the Bay Area. We offer a unique opportunity for children to learn about and share cultural and linguistic perspectives; to grow as curious, motivated learners; to become fluent French speakers and scholars; to thrive as tomorrow’s global citizens. Our program is based on the prestigious French national curriculum and is enriched by core college-prepatory courses taught in English. These dual credentials allow our students to distinguish themselves from their peers as they apply for admission to the finest colleges and universities in the world. Our new campus is Sausalito welcomes students in Pre-School– grade 5, as does our Ashbury San Francisco Lower School campus, while our Ortega San Francisco Upper School campus welcomes students Grades 6 – 12.

History

Established in 1967.

Lycée Français de San Francisco (LFSF) was founded in San Francisco in 1967 by a group of parents/guardians and teachers to provide a French program of education adhering to the highly respected curriculum of France’s national education. Classes were originally held in the basement of the Orthodox Church on Geary Street with a total enrollment count of 20 students. In its early years LFSF moved to Fort Mason, and eventually purchased its own building on Balboa Street.

In 1986, The French School of Marin merged with the Lycée, adding a Marin County campus for students in preschool through Grade 5. In 1996, LFSF moved to 755 Ashbury Street, where we currently welcome students preschool Grade 5. In 2006, our middle and high school moved to 1201 Ortega Street, a newly renovated facility and in September 2013 we moved our Marin campus to its new home in Sausalito.

There are currently over one thousand students enrolled on three campuses.
